GoArticles Ruined For Marketers As Of Today?

For those of you unaware of this change, GoArticles has just implemented a system-wide Affinity Ad Network Ninja-WP-style text ad system across all articles.

For example, one of my articles there now has 4 Affinity text-balloon ads. It makes the articles there look pretty spammy now.

Months/years of backlinking etc may be down the drain for many marketers as I can see this killing CTR at GoArticles...

I know everyone says that EZA is the best but, as Angela Edwards has pointed out, an EZA article just does not respond to backlinking in Google as well as a GA article (which still allows direct aff links in the article).

Such a shame... Goarticles was such a great site, and quicker to use than EZA.. text balloon ads just remove so much value from content

It doesn't really bother me. I think readers respond much better to a well-crafted call to action than a bunch of pop-up balloon ads.

In other words, they aren't making any money, and need to bump sales or it won't matter anyway.

    HI

It also does not worry me because publishers and blog owners will take your articles on Goarticles and repost them on their own site/blogs..

Plus go articles is not the only article directory you should be using..

But makes you wonder they must be hurting for income to do that..

    Thx

This is one of the huge drawbacks of helping to create an Authority site.. With thousands upon thousands of users they see an opportunity and will take advantage of it...

It has nothing to do with "they need money" it has more to do with "They want to see if they can get away with it and still remain with the same amount of usage of the site". This is what they are testing, to see if authors will stop posting articles or not... If the numbers are not effected very much then pretty much you will see the popup ads stay.

Problem is your articles will suffer, I do not care what anyone claims. Having google ads and popup ads, and banner ads all over your articles does effect the click-through rate no matter how good your "call to action" is... People get sidetracked very easily.

If someone searches google for bridal gowns and they find an article of yours and they go to that article. If the popup ads, google ads, banner ads, and etc offers them what they have been looking for then your article will never be read and the "call to action" will mean nothing...

This is why it is sooooooo important to take advantage of article directories that have "NO SITE ADS" ....

This could be rephrased "we are trying out a potentially more profitable way of doing business"

I dont blame them for trying. I still get my links, and that site has always been messy looking anyways. I do it for the links.

Nope can't blame them for trying ... As I said this is what happens when you make a site an authority site. They tend to get new ideas on how to take advantage of everyone that seems to need their site because it is now an authority.

The only thing that makes them an authority site is the authors...

As I posted in the other thread on this topic, put a copy of your bio box at the very top of your article so that you get your pitch in first before Affinity.
I just stopped submitting to them - there were several threads about this in the past couple days.

I usually have good clickthroughs to my sites from GoArticles but the clicks have totally dried up since this ad popup thingie began. It ruins the readability of the articles. There were as many as 5-6 links in each of the articles I checked.

Forget it - there are other directories. As they "tested" this without warning, I don't trust them. Wonder if it became a "test" because of the backlash from writers? They have a right to do whatever they want to monetize their site - writers can choose not to submit there.

Yeah they did not seem to mind to email out about 10 freaking emails on that new service of theirs but yet could not find the time to notify everyone of a "test" ... Yep Kay I think you hit the nail on the head..

CTR may go down of course but still good for linking. If you look for traffic then EZA should deliver much more of it anyway.

I tend to get more action from my articles been re-submitted to peoples blogs than i do from goarticles themselves so i will just carry on as usual.
