Got Slammed first time in a niche forum - what to do?

Warriors...

I just read a very dafamatory post in a niche forum where someone claimed I shared their email, asked them to sign up for multiple junk offers, etc.

I don't do any of that.

What to do?

I posted that the POSTER could unsubscribe at any time, that I NEVER ask anyone to sign up for other offers, and that I never share anyone's email.

Is that sufficient or should I go for the forum owner and ask that the post be removed?

hey, as I noticed today, there are some really psychotic people on here!

You could just flip out like other people do and issue an infraction, which may report that post...

someone did that to me today, issued an infraction on my thread...lovely...

but hey, some people here are just plain haters, i swear to god!! they have nothing better to do, than to try and rain on someone's parade.

just to add more info - my product has been on CB for over a year and my refund rate is less than 1%.

I wasn't talking about the making money niche - it;s totally outside of that

I figure I have to pick and choose my "fights" so I've determined each "opportunity" has to have atleast one of two qualities, and they are:

    1. It has to be a fight I CAN win
    2. It has to be a fight I MUST win (must from a survival or continuation standpoint)

Sometimes even though it's not what you WANT to do, the best thing is to do is "state your case" and then walk away.

Think "Big Picture" - It's an energy thing.

Winebuddy, sorry to hear that happened. Have you tried sending the person a pm and trying to resolve it behind the scenes? Approach it in a non-defensive manner, expressing concern and understanding at their frustration, while also explaining that you did not do it and if possible you would like more information from them so you can investigate it further and see if you can get to the bottom of what did happen (and who did share their email). Granted, you may never be able to find that out. But, if the poster is reasonable (which of course may be a big "if") and gets the sense that you are genuinely concerned, they may work with you and agree to remove their post after you have corresponded with them directly.

In general, it is usually best to handle disputes one on one rather than in front of everyone else on a forum. I hope you are able to get it resolved quickly.

I think that's sufficient. Just pointing out that there is an unsubscribe link makes him look a bit silly for complaining. I wouldn't contact him in any way for any reason as he clearly doesn't want to hear from you.

I think you handled it well, too. The first instinct is to "make them see that I'm not" by telling them, yelling, handling it behind the scenes... it never actually works. What's best is to be very matter of fact. Tell them they can unsubscribe at any time. Let them yell and scream some more. Then they look crazy! If the forum has a "report thread" button, click it and tell the admin why - "This is defamation of character and would like the thread removed." Then just walk away.

There are psychos out there...and there are also competitors posing as customers. I've been through this crap MANY times.

State your case and move on. Don't engage the idiots, just state your case super-politely and super sweet and leave a link to your helpdesk if they have any other concerns.

Just last week I read a review on a site stating that a guy asked for a refund from me 17 times and didn't get it.

    17 times.

It was so ridiculous it actually made me laugh instead of getting angry. But it happens to everyone.

You handled it just fine Buddy...
As long as YOU know that you did not do anything wrong...thats all that matters.
Refund them or unsubscribe them...what ever it takes...just wash your hands of it & move on.

    Hi winebuddy,

I would advise you remain calm, with a professional
refute of their claims and leave it there. You've
already pointed out that they can unsubscribe if they
so desire. You could take that one stage further, and
offer to manually unsubscribe them yourself.

I was in a situation recently when I tracked down
some thieves in a well know forum that encourages
their members to share other folks products for free.
One person decided that they would spend the rest of
their posts that day flaming me, using foul language,
and out right lies just to try an upset me. It didn't
upset me of course. He followed up in other threads
in that forum to try and make me look silly. Shame
really, for him, as one of his other posts gave me a
really good idea on how to turn a bad situation around
    to my advantage.

My point is, no matter what you do or say, there are
some whackos out there that will flame you. They get
some kind of warped pleasure out of it. If you remain
calm, and not get into a war with them, they will look
stupid, and you'll look good in the eyes of the other
forum members. If you have to respond, just keep it
calm and professional, but most of all, don't take it
    personally.

    HTH

    Glenn

Got to agree with Kay King, you've pointed out the person can unsubscribe anytime (you might like to make sure they understand they'll be unsubscribed from all of your lists). I'd leave it at that. You're probably getting the sharp end of someone else's bad mood.

forum mods took it down! All I did was point out that the post was false and misleading and they deleted it.

Never fight with idiots, they bring you down to their level and then humiliate you with their experience!

Good to know your issue is resolved. All marketers face the risk of unfair comments that can ruin our hard earned reputation. Great comments, congrats to everyone for those words of advice and encouragement.
