Affiliate program: Members only or open for everybody?

Hi Warriors,

We are currently building an in-house affiliate program for my membership site and i want some opinions on whether we should make it available for members only or we should make it available for everybody. I'm really considering to make it available for members only. Initially the site will be a one time fee and we'll give 50% commissions, so basically 2 sales and after that affiliates are in profit plus they'll be a lifelong member of the site.

So i want to know from affiliates, if you would want to promote my site but have to make 2 sales before making a profit, would this hold you back? Any insights on this matter are appreciated.

Thanks!
Jens

It may hold the "bottom feeding" affiliates back.

But, if you have a solid offer...and people truly want to share your product...I think it would be a great way to get high quality affiliates.

So, you won't have as many...but you will have high quality.

    IMO

    What is your goal?

If you want members, you should open it to any affiliate. The best affiliates are going to be members if for no other reason than to be able to give an accurate description of what they're pushing.

Would you turn down members if they didn't come with an 'invite' from another member?

That's what you'd be doing by only allowing members to be affiliates. You'd be limiting your membership.

If people became members only for the opportunity to affiliate, your site has more problems than I can address.

If people enjoy your site whether or not they drive others there, then needing to make two sales before covering their own membership isn't even a consideration.

Naturally, my opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it...

I think limiting it to "Members Only" will rule out a lot of potential affiliates who will simply move on to finding other opportunities. If you already have a large base of members who can become your affiliates sales force, then that's cool. But if you are wanting to grow quickly, then maybe start with allowing anyone to promote and consider limiting it to members only later on down the line.

    Good luck!

Personally, waste of my time for that little commission, unless I had the marketing funnel already in place for another product the Amazon products would compliment.
