Lost Passwords: If Time is money then this little "trick" has saved me a lot of money.

So maybe this qualifies for posting on the Main Forum, "where we talk about making money," (old version.)

Hey all, I found this on Google a while back and just had the opportunity to use it again and it saved me a lot of time resetting, searching my hard drive, etc.

I forget my passwords sometime because my PC stores them, you know when you get to the page and it automatically has ********** in the password box.

I'm probably the only one here who didn't know this, but if you use Chrome, you can...

hover over the password box, right click and click "inspect element" when the text comes up change type="password" to type="text" and barely move the scroll bar and your password will magically appear in the password window.

It's saved me many times.

A very handy tip, thanks George.

To reciprocate, my handy tip is to write down all passwords (except those used for banking) in one of those telephone books, where the pages are marked A to Z (writing the passwords in pencil.

I once made the mistake of storing passwords in a password-protected CSV file -
Bong! Lesson learned, when I couldn't open it - I won't do that again

I advise everyone to use an encrypted password storage utility.

The problem with storing them in Chrome is that they're stored unencrypted, so if you get Trojaned or Backdoor'd it could be trouble.

    LastPass + Roboform are cool...

(I used to recommend TrueCrypt... But well... Not anymore).

Since I use TrueCrypt... Did you have problems with it. or because it's discontinued?

The truth is that nobody in the IT security sector knows why it's suddenly discontinued.

I love truecrypt... But the only reliable source of its creation is saying that it's flawed. (Or may contain "Unfixed Security Issues").

Maybe they were underfunded... Or maybe something more nefarious? (Blackmail, threats, etc - as this was one of the truest and purest encryption systems on the planet without any known backdoors; then TrueCrypt goes on to recommend BITLOCKER which imo probably has more holes than swiss cheese).

Don't listen to me though. I'm a tinfoil hat wearing fella.

Sounds like a valid reason to me. Better safe than sorry! I'm gonna try out some of the recommendations in this thread.

    Great tip.

My two cents: Save your passwords electronically and physically (write them on paper)

Of course make sure you're careful.
