When did you have your biggest breakthrough in IM?

I'm just curious, when did you have your biggest breakthroughs in internet marketing and what happened.

I'll start first.

Breakthrough #1: Focusing just on one thing. Back then it was SEO for me. It doesn't matter what you focus on as long as you focus just on that one thing.

Breakthrough #2: Getting a mentor. I got a guy that was making 10 times more money. He opened my eyes and expanded my thinking. Back then I was making more than most professionals, but he asked me "Matt, why are you playing small?". What a moment!

Breakthrough #3: Going to a 10,000 GBP seminar, hanging out with super successful guys. I realized they aren't smarter or better, they just took more action and they work HARD.

In 1997 I wrote about the five great lakes of the Internet, and theTWO oceans. The oceans of adult content and college students access.

The five lakes were, financial, physical, emotional, spiritual and relationships.

The breakthrough came in 98, when I wrote that the future of the Internet was not about selling things, but it was about giving the people a voice.

This forum gives a voice to over 700,000 people. Facebook and twitter gives a voice to millions.

More than anything else, people want to be heard (acknowledged) ... do that, and the buying and selling become almost automatic.

I agree with you SO MUCH.

People are trying to sell all the time. Stop selling. Provide value first! I have found that when I give value first and sell second, I get unbelievable results.

At this moment I'm offering free strategy sessions - I spend two hours of my time coaching FOR FREE. Guess what happens? At the end of my sessions people ALWAYS ask me if they could work with me. THEY ask me to make an offer to them... And often they decide to invest. So much more powerful than just trying to sell something. But you gotta be genuine too! You gotta be willing to genuinely help others, otherwise it will not work!

Mine came when I realized that ad copy is the HEART of online sales letters. I am always studying that facet now, because if you can't write (or at least hire a writer) your sales are dead in the water.

    Hey Matt,

My first breakthrough was selling an adult domain. That's when I realized people could really make money online. From there, I went to a linking seminar and met a few people... but my biggest breakthrough came only after reading a ton of stuff, and taking a ton of action... and failing my ass off.

Finally, I realized one thing - traffic is absolutely everything. And above anything else - you need to specialize in driving traffic from one source. You must be a master of that source. And if you are then you will never have to worry about money - ever.

    Hope that helps.

When I got serious about my success and took
the time to figure out what methods suited my strengths
    and ability best.

At the time that was SEO and affiliate marketing.

Next, I focused on learning ONLY those two skills,
and continued on the path. These strategies of creating my
own plan of action and FOCUS have served me well.

    Best,

About three months after I started, I suddenly realised that I was doing almost everything wrong that you could possibly do wrong, and that that was why I wasn't actually earning anything. I made some big and fundamental changes in what I was doing, and I was actually earning a living, near enough, only another two months after that. http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post8532320

The biggest thing for me was getting people on recurring billing.

My breakthrough came when it became clear to me that the internet is literally two things... content and traffic. Then I discovered that I could solve all of my content needs with properly curated content, and all the traffic I need is on facebook. Ding!

When I stopped trying to learn everything that is to know and start working instead. There is just too much information overload out there - get started with what you know - worked for me.

My first break through was back in 2009, shortly after I first started marketing. I got involved in the "Dating" niche and made my first big commissions - £1,700.

My first step into the IM game was with a "motivational quotes" website. I was able to make a consistent $8 - $12 a day with Adsense, from doing absolutely nothing. I achieved this after reading Joel Comms Adsense book, and with a little guidance from a friend who was an Internet Marketer.

My biggest break was $89,000 in 4 days in 2011.

Yep, basically the same break-throughs I had.

Focus is a BIG one... and getting mentorship from someone who is already getting the results you want to get.

I had my breakthrough when I finally got that first sale on Clickbank several years ago, and it got be hooked. And then I got into freelance writing, and then I found out about great writing sites that paid me good money to write. And I guess that all continued to having me get into other business ventures that got me started.

      wow great tip there.

Its one of the PRINT OUTS I have on my ROOF! So when I sit back arms behind head, it says :- "KEEP DOING THE THINGS THAT KEEP WORKING!"

Ok! it sounds silly, but how many times do you see newbies find a way to make money, then they completely drop that, and go and find the HOLY GRAIL.....

The ONLY holy Grail to making money online IS THAT THERE IS NOT HOLY GRAIL!.... Yes....the grass is not greener on the other side, like people keep thinking!

People fail for years, cause they think they are only 2 days away from learning the secrets to making money online.

However even back in the 1800's it was the same. They just did not have the internet. So its much easier for us. The same fundamentals are the same today as they were hundreds of years ago....

      WHICH IS...

      1) Hunt for your prospects.

      2) Get them on your list, or some sort of list.

      3) GET MORE AND MORE AND MORE LEADS EVERY DAY

      4) THEN, Work out how to TURN YOUR LEADS into recurring customers.

Its nothing new, been the same for hundreds of years. Simple works...right!? of course!

Once I figured this out, and stop looking for the shiney objects, I did very well, and told my boss what a discusting fat b*&ch she was. Yes those exact words. I was then able to work out, I could work for myself, and not make that fat cow rich.

I've had so many that were major breakthroughs at the time when they had occurred, I will list some here:

    1. I got a mentor who helped me get my start. I no longer need mentorship from that person today, but without him, I may not have succeeded as fast. And when it comes to mentorship, you don't necessarily need someone to be at your beckon call to hold your hand. Find someone already succeeding that you can identify and relate with, and study, follow, and emulate them in your own marketing.

    2. I got over the fear of losing money with paid traffic. Now paid traffic makes up for easily 90% of all the traffic I get in my businesses.

    3. I stopped listening to every guru and wannabe guru out there who hit my inbox and started following closely the people who made most of their money marketing products and services other than the selling of "how I made money selling how I made money products"

I'd have to say when I learned about network marketing and how it's not the same as traditional affiliate marketing. I'll be quitting my day job soon thanks to this find.
