Confused about document scanning

Hi.

My head is spinning. I've spent the last few days looking for a solution. It seems for like 2 seconds that I got the right service but then the deeper I research the more I don't know if I'm looking at the right service. From document scanning to digital filing systems/services. OMG I am confused!

Basically I want to take my HUGE collection of community cookbooks and put them either into the cloud or on a disk. I have about 100 of these cookbooks and they are starting to get older and more difficult to read. I could type them all out but then I'd be doing that for the next 10 years.

Any ideas? Please help!!

Get a scanner or go to Office Depot and scan them to a disk.

I'm not looking to just scan these pages, I need them to be filed as well. That's the reason for searching for a service that can do that for me. So just buying a scanner isn't going to work.

      Thanks for trying though.

I didn't understand the full spectrum of your issue. Why not do a google search for "scanning and filing service"

There are SO many of those services and similar ones. I've been searching since Thursday and only getting more confused at what my needs really are and what company can fill those needs.

It's like going to the WSO section and hoping to find one single product on a certain niche but you find about two dozen. Each one different but also the same. It's not easy picking which one. No one wants to buy a few dozen of different WSO's nor do I want to buy tons of different services and hope for the best.

I'm looking for advice from someone who knows what service can scan a page from a book and turn that page into text so that it's OCR searchable and able to be digitally filed in the cloud or onto a CD.

So far .. no one seems to understand.

Maybe nobody has had the same issue. Maybe someone does and will answer on the forum. But doing a google search, typing out a query for your issue, and pasting it into the contact section of a few different companies would certainly get you some information by tomorrow AM.

Proactively clarifying what I want and sending out queries has always given me better direction when I lacked information.

Why can't you scan these? I have an HP 8600 that will scan pages OCR and save them as a pdf, from there you can put them on the cloud or anywhere else you need them. The printer will do 2 sided pages too.

    H2H

100 books to 150 books each with 150 pages at the least equals at least 15,000 pages needing to be scanned.

A bulk scanner that would allow me to scan these would cost about $2000. BUT it will NOT scan them in a text format or file them away.

Hence ; a service that does that is needed. I'll check out that printer though.

Perhaps one thought that might help is that the OCR does not have to be done by the scanner itself. I've taken scans and used Google Drive to translate them to text. Nothing's perfect, of course, so that still needed some manual correction. But my point is that the scanning hardware needn't be expensive. Hope that helps.

A good bet would be your local yellow pages or someone on craigslist would take the trouble to do it for you for a whole lot less. Just look for services locally... shops are probably dying for your business with the equipment but no business.

    Hope that helps.

      Hi Sweetcrabhoney,

I also had the same problem and here I am with a solution to it. I am quite sure that this will help you a lot. Rather than keeping your cookbooks until they get old, Outsource these cook books to professional who will help you out with Data Scanning and Indexing so that you can refer to any of your cook books with ease when in need. Let me know if you need to have the contact information of service provider.

      Thanks,

There are lots of document scanning services out there. I use one of those companies named Ash Conversions in Weston for scanning all my personal photos and documents. You can find many such companies in your locality if you look around. I suggest to try a company who also provides online management of these scanned docs. The company where I do my scanning work also does the OCR for the scanned docs, which makes it easy for me. It will be good, if your company provides the same.

And make the scans into a pdf..
