Moving Wordpress Blog from GoDaddy to HostGator (Cpanel) Easiest way?

So I have a hostgator account with a blog already so I want to move my other blog hosted on Godaddy to the hostgator account.

Should I:

-Copy the FTP files exactly into the newly created Dir?
OR
-Export a Wordpress XML file and upload it on the other side?

Make a backup of the SQL database from your current installation. Then download all the files in the root of the domain.

Then create a new SQL database in Hostgator and import the original database. Upload all the files to the root.

Only thing to watch is that the database name, username and password in the wp-config.php file match the newly created database.

You can use phpMyAdmin to export and import the SQL file.

    Hope that helps

Wow, good stuff. Wish I found that a few weeks ago. Spent ages hunting around for the info, then hours getting things wrong using a test site (anyone moving for the first time I REALLY advise using a test site to move first).

p.s. reason for deleting link in quote is because I don't have enough posts to quote a link yet, not because I don't want it repeated!

Moving a Wordpress Blog is a 3-Step Process.

    1. Transfer the Site Files via FTP
    2. Transfer the MySql Database
    3. Update Your Config File.

I had to do this a few months back. I found this guide and followed it exactly and it worked. Here's the link: How To Move Wordpress To A New Server Or Host | JWRmedia.com

Spot on, moving your wordpress site to a new host account via this way is quicker and less chance of problems happening.

HostGator will move your sites for you. Have them do it, then make sure everything is working before you delete the files from GoDaddy. That would be the 'easiest' way.

Hostgator will do it for free only for one website within 30 days after opening account, otherwise you'll have to pay around euro 10 for wordpress site.

Why none of the "experts" above is asking the obvious question:

Do you want to replace your existing blog at Hostgator with the old blog from GD... or do you want to "merge" the two? Because the answer to your question will depend on this.
