Subdomains vs Subfolders vs Categories for content structure

Hi all!

I am actually working on a web project for an authority site that will feature certain type of information regarding cities in WordPress.

I would appreciate some input from fellow warriors regarding which path to take with content structure.
Each city will have 10+ posts and probably grow with time.

  • One option will be to use a subdomain for each city, i.e.: chicago.mydomain.com with a new WP installation for each city.
  • Another option could be to create those new WP installations as subfolders: mydomain.com/Chicago/
  • And the last thing I can think of on this sunday is to post all city posts to the main domain blog and use categories or tags to structure content.
Thing is, I want the best config to maximize SEO and the overall visitor experience.

What you guys think about it?

Dan.

Hey Captain, Just keep it simple. Categories/tags works just fine. Is this a travel website of some sort?

I personally prefer subdomains, they look professional and you have more flexibility in terms of design and structures because it's like an independent domain

If you're doing a plethora of different cities, my preference would be sub domains. If it's good for Craigslist, it's good for me.

I'm not sure it makes TOO much of a difference from an SEO standpoint, however,
for the user experience part, I think subdomains are easier for everyone and better
    for different cities especially...
