New Wordpress Installation: No Choice But To Install Ver 2.8??

Need to ask the WP-savvy warriors out there -- if you're installing WP thru cpanel and Fantastico, can you still install version 2.7 OR do you have NO choice but to use 2.8?? Is there anyway to still install 2.7?

Just hoping not to have to deal with 2.8 until all the bugs are sorted or 2.8.1 comes along...

  • Apparently my Fantastico installation forces me to go with 2.8. However, this link may help you (talks about downgrading your WP install).

  • Hey Kelvin,

    Unfortunately, your stuck installing whatever version your webhost has available in Fantastico. However, if you do a manual install you can go to Wordpress Release Archives to download whichever version you want. P.S. You need to know how to setup a MySQL database and how to rename files with ftp.

    • Wordpress has a beta 2.81 available for download that is supposed to address many of the problems with 2.8

  • One of my webhosts - Bluehost - has "Simple Scripts" available... which you can use in lieu of Fantastico.

    As of today, with Simple Scripts you can select any Wordpress version back to 2.3.1.
