High Traffic Court Records Website Needing Insight

I'm helping a friend with a court records site.

The website lists peoples' court records. We generate income through ads and through people paying for a record opt out.

We're trying to expand the website by having people sign up for our email list so we can send them helpful information (and products) to make sure their court records stay off the internet.

I created a web fom that stated they could receive a free ebook on how to erase their court records online if they signed up for our email list.

The web form received almost 800 views in one day, but not a single person opted in...

...We're confused as to why no one would sign up...

Any information/resources/persons in this industry which/who could point us in the right direction on best practices to get keywords and make sales effectively?

Any and all responses would be helpful.

Have you verified that the sign-up process is working? Quite often a simple omission on the webpage or form, can mean people try to sign up, but can't complete the process.

Also, with those 800 views, are they coming from real people, i.e.: not search engine bots

After one has seen a few mug shot sites they know the "erasing court records online" bit is generally a scam.

If you're trying to profit from public court records at the expense of someone, why would you think they would trust you with their email address and getting "helpful" information? Your strategy is flawed.

So you take public court records, find their mug shots, post them on your site and have people pay you to have them taken them down? And people wonder why internet marketers are given such a bad name. Why your nothing but a scammer!

Maybe you have 800 views and 0 opt-ins because people can smell through your BS

How about you create a site that lists all the extremely violent criminals in your area and have it setup so that people in the local community can be more educated about where these dangerous criminals or child molesters live and the progress of their rehabilitation. Update the site with police reports, local community events, neighborhood watch meetings, church meetings, group therapy sessions, etc...

Instead of creating a site to humiliate everyone with a public record (which almost everyone has one) focus on creating value for the community by helping people be safe, report crime, and be aware of the violent dangerous criminals.

Maybe you should flip the script and instead of helping people remove court records from public view, maybe you let visitors look up court records to protect themselves against potential offenders/criminals.

I'm not going to draw conclusions about what your site does or doesn't do. Your original post legitimizes the traffic (since you're making money with ads) But Zero for 800 is a BIG miss. Think outside the box a little. Why not take the opt-in form down so you can take a survey and ask them what they are looking for?
