NEED HELP! 1500 Bot Visitors A Day

I have a website that was getting around 300 to 400 visitors a day and beginning a week ago the visitor count is up to 1500 a day all direct) / (none) traffic according to my Google Analytic. So I cannot track where the traffic is coming from.

My guess is that the additional traffic is some kind of bot/fake traffic because the session duration has dropped down to 2 seconds. which was much higher when I had the 300 to 400 visitors only.

I believe someone is trying to get my Adsence and Amazon Assocation account banned with all this bot/fake traffic.

Is there any way I can stop this bad traffic from flooding my site?

    Could also be bots trying to comment on your blog, or someone trying to crack your wordpress installation..



    If you haven't done so, you might consider disabling comments altogether.

    Thanks Sarevok, I am using Blogger for this blog but I will try to disable the comments for now.

    My main concern is that it will affect my Adsense or Amazon links. Do you know if this cause any issues with my Adsense or Amazon accounts?

    Adsense: I don't think so. Amazon: you would have more clicks than usual but no conversion because they are from bots. I think you could try to add rel="nofollow" to your links. It is implemented by Google but it seems to me that many other spiders follow that rule as well.

    I had this happen once. It was coming through a Clickbank affiliate URL. I had to notify Clickbank to get it resolved.

    Hmmmm....how many authentic, real visitors have you connected with?

    If you generate more helpful social shares, and authentic comments, and build bonds, this bot stuff seems to disappear on a deeper level. Bots seem to hit sites that are ghost towns.

    Now if it's not a blog, then I'd say try to generate more reliable traffic leading in through your funnel, through blogging and social media. As your trusted, legit, community/friend traffic rises the bots seems to shrink. It's like your off the radar, or something, but it's more karma than anything else.

    This has worked with me in the past. More of an intuitive thing on my end.

    Yes these are definately bots trying to access your site.

    Just try disabling comments and see the results. If the traffic drops then you know that it's just bots trying to comment on your site.

    Yes, Google will Ban your Adsense account, (depending on the kind of traffic it is)

    Some bots will click, (they call it a click bomb attack) it can happen, just do a search for adsense account banned bots, https://support.google.com/adsense/answer/2660562?hl=en

    This is actually a big problem that a lot of website owners are not even aware of.

    If your only getting a few hundred its not as bad, but trust me I have some sites that get shut down because of 70 or 80 thousand hits a day from bots, (mostly from outside the US)

    Hosting companies only care about this once it becomes a problem that effects the network, been down that road more than once.

    Don't worry about your adsense or amazon program. If you are getting fraud clicks on your adsense ads, you can always report them to adsense. It won't be a problem even if you don't report. I'm gueessing the traffic is from China. Check the stats on your adsense dashboard.

    This might be a case of negative SEO. There are unethical marketers that will buy gigs on Fiverr that will do this kind of stuff.

    a good solution is WordFence
    or iThemes have a plugin out now that appears to be quite good
    you need to ID the attacking IP(s) and block 'em, fast
    Wordfence can do this on auto, I believe

    I have a client whose wp site was being bombarded by bots constantly registering and spamming the comments section and it seemed that every thing I tried to curb it wasn't working. I even went through all the steps to determine if the site had been hacked and then I found this plugin. Now I use it for all the wp sites I build and I haven't seen any bots able to get through yet. It is upgraded regularly also which is a good thing.
