Has Freelancer relaxed the self-promotion rules?

Over the last few days I've noticed a surge in "see my sig, see my blog post, here's my video" posts, both here in the main section and in many of the sub-forums.

Has something changed?

I doubt it John, that would just turn the Main forum into a bigger mess of nonsense threads.

It could be that people are not reporting these threads or newer Mods are not spotting them.

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

      I think it's this.

I report them "relentlessly". I go back through the offenders' previous posts and report several of them (there are usually several to report!). I find that if I do this, then they do actually get removed.

I believe there are some new moderators being trained, and my own guess is that the easier and clearer we can make things for them, with our "reports", the more smoothly this stuff will be sorted out.

There are a lot of moving parts at the moment and probably will be for some time. We're getting an influx of new members and let's be frank, most people don't read all the rules. Even the ones that do, it takes time to familarize onself with how things work around here.

So far the new moderators have done a good job in dealing with the spam as I have noticed it go way down based on the fact that I'm not seeing as much spam as I used to. From the moderation side of things they aren't enforcing all the rules, yet, because they are still learning.

I think as time goes on things are going to be getting better.

I have noticed a few members reporting more threads and we certainly appreciate that. It does have an impact.

        Thanks, all, especially Rod.

Maybe it was the threads I was choosing, but there just seemed like a lot of promotional posts that were flying under the radar.

On the plus side, I'm finding a bunch of little chores I can do while waiting for the 60 second delay to wind down...

No, they haven't. If you see them, report them.

Changes under new managers are many. I do not mind mild promos. Well, as long as they are not excessive. Most people understand where the limits are. Those few that begin to abuse the forum will find themselves kicked out and soon.

John, funnily enough, I wrote an article about this exact same topic.

I've been reporting quite some spammy posts lately... but real complete spam, not something disguised.

  • I've been in and out of here a bit and talked about my company in the past without a problem, but I recently got banned for a week or so for putting links on my posts. Innocuous stuff, like "xyz is a great company, but at my company we think we have a better offering, you can see us at site.com".

That said, it looked an awful lot like one of my competitors started the thread itself and so when I posted it might have made them hit the report button vs in the past most folks without a dog in the fight thought it was harmless.
