I get all mine from Royalty free images, photos, vectors and videos on Fotolia

I get my one from compfight.com or flickr or The Leading Source Of Free Stock Photos - freeimages! Those are all good sources if you ask me!

it depends on where and what you need the images for. you could hire someone at fiverr for you. even if its a 2D or 3D ecover or just image. you could get it for $5. if its just plain images, you could bargain. eg 5 images for $5.

so check fiverr and just give them a detailed description of what you want.

Besides those mentioned above, a few other inexpensive stock photo distributors are:

DepositPhotos
123RF
Dreamstime

Other have mentioned Flickr - be very careful with what you use - it is not a free image site as many claim.

Another great source is public domain. There is a learning curve to knowing how to use public domain images and where to find them . . . but it's worth learning as there are millions of wonderful images waiting for you (and they are not all old).

  For celebs, musicians and athletes:
  
  1. Go to www.allposters.com and join their affiliate program. Then just add images of the posters to your site. They are free, legal and you can even earn some money selling the posters.
  
  2. Amazon affiliate program. Are there books or videos that have the celebrity image? Again, not only are there plenty of free images you can use, you can make some money too.
  
  3. Youtube videos are free to embed on your site.
  
  Between these three, you can usually get enough images and/or videos to legally give a web page visuals for celebrities.

I prefer fotolia. I pay one credit, which is about a dollar, and then I own the rights. I don't have to worry about copyright infringement. But I only buy the one credit.

The images are high quality for the credit.

I always encourage people to use anybody but Getty or Getty owned properties (which many are). Their strong-arm tactics of suing website owners for copyright infringement is ugly. I don't have a problem with them being entitled to what's fair when an image has been used without a license, but the manner they go about it is quite ugly. So as a matter of principle, I make sure I only buy images from non getty properties.

I like to use stock fresh for commercial purposes. However, for non com try fotolia free images. Those are super. Also, your cost is zero. Can't argue with that one.

I am a bit paranoid about pictures. I usually buy from well established website or I take them myself. I know they are expensive, but once I almost got sued by a guy on eBay telling me that I was using his images. It wasn't a nice experience to deal with. I had hired a freelancer to design the images but who knows, maybe they were stolen images, I never found out. Lost the money though...

I use Dreamstime. Not sure why I started there, maybe to rebel against iStockPhoto at the time. They're good. They have what I need. Also, I'll just grab something from Bing if I need something quick and don't feel like messing around...

  This for me? I'll expand for you... I don't have a blog where I add images on a day-to-day basis. If I need an image its usually for a sales page of some type. I'll grab it from Bing and test with it. If I convert with the image and I know it will be seen by a large scale audience, I change it at that time.

I just use Google.

Once you have a prominent contacts page and your whois filled in anyone who wants you to take stuff down can get in touch easily.

In my entire IM career I've only had a handful of DMCA requests and two Cease & Desist letters.

They appear scary at first, I laugh at them now and simply add the steps they want me to take to my tasklist - no need to write them back, they'll check eventually.

You've got now many great sources of images here - but you will have to make sure that you check all their terms of services and licenses to see what you can do with their pictures and what not. Some will allow you to use their images for own stuff and you will have to pay more money for images to be used on clients websites.
