Hi,

is it me, or has WF turned signatures off?

It's not you, I noticed this too.

    EDIT:
    Found the problem;
Go to your profile, click on ''Edit Options'' and then enable ''Show Signature''.

I always read people saying "look at my sig for more info or this or that link"..
I thought WF had turned off all signatures

              Why should they be deleted?

For example, member Importexport constantly tells people to refer to the link to his ebook in his signature.

Why isn't that allowed? He's a very good guy on this forum and always gives out good and useful info for everyone..

Because drawing attention to your own signature-file in your posts is a form of "forum-spamming". It makes sense for the general policy to be that that isn't allowed.

You can perhaps imagine what the board would look like, in a forum with over 750,000 members, if people were allowed to make posts promoting the content of their own signature-files? It would descend into a spamfest in no time at all, wouldn't it?

I suspect you may be maligning him, a little, there? He seems very nice to me, and not a forum-spammer at all: I just looked quickly at his most recent 20 posts and didn't see a single instance of that.

Are you saying is hasn't recently turned into a spamfest on top of a flood of nonsense one-liner posts?

Well ... I was trying to be very tactful about some of that ... it's been rather better this week than last week, overall, hasn't it? There's a whole new team of moderators being trained, you know? Let's give them time ...

No he's not a spammer, that's what I was trying to say. Referring people to one's signature is not spamming in my opinion. Otherwise why does WF allow sigs anyway?

Here's a thread from Importexport I was reading an hour ago:
                  http://www.warriorforum.com/ecommerc...you-share.html

In post #8 he's telling someone to see the link in his signature.

Again nothing wrong IMO, so why are you suggesting the moderators chase and delete such people's posts?

Because those have been the forum's rules and policies, certainly at least since I've been a member here, and I think for some years before that, too. Hope that's ok with you.

It would if people did this out of context and if they contributed no useful content or info at all.

That does happen pretty often, actually.

It seems to me to make sense for there to be a "blanket policy" about it, so that such instances can swiftly and efficiently be resolved, without every single occurrence of it becoming a time-consuming judgement-call?

I think probably you don't quite agree with me about that? And that's fine, too, but it doesn't change the reality that "them's the rules".

By the way, if you don't like that and think it should be changed, there's nothing at all to stop you from starting off a thread in the Suggestions Forum, making your case for it. Maybe you're not alone, and would get some support for it? But not from me, with apologies: call me a spoilsport, but my interest is in reducing promotional posting, not in augmenting it.

You. Or rather, your profile options.

Click on "User CP" - near the top left of any page here - and then on "Edit Options" in the drop-down menu. Then on the next page scroll down to the part headed "Thread Display Options" and check the box marked "Display signature files". Then scroll to the bottom of that page and click the "save changes" button.

Had to vent after waiting for the minute 3x to report 4 consecutive posts where somebody dug up a months old thread and three more piled on with garbage.

I for one can't stand for someone to point to their signature and you shouldn't either, it seems to be a desperate measure from marketers who don't care about rules.

Would you consider aligning yourself with someone like that? If they are rule breakers, how can you trust what they have to say.

The member that you are referring to did not point to his signature per say, he was asked where to purchase his book and he simply replied that it was in his sig, big difference.

Exactly, so the fact of referring someone to one's own signature is not in itself a spammy practice...
It just depends on the way you're doing it

I'm still not quite sure that what he did was against the rules or not, because the rules state do not point to your sig and for that reason I would side with caution and not push the envelope.

If you are asked that type of question, you can always pm the member with the link to the ebook.

As to your question "then what are sigs for if you can't point to them", the key is to word your sig so that members can't help but being curious and click on it.

If you aren't getting clicks then change your sig, keep testing until you do.
