How to Avoid Fees When Paying your VA's?

How do you pay your virtual assistants abroad?

Paypal rips you off with their shitty conversion rates.

Do you use any alternatives?

I'm looking to pay someone in the Philippines.

Bank transfer is the easiest way, The currency conversion rate is good but you need to watch out bank charges, some bank charge a lot and some have very reasonable fees.

You may consider using NewYork Bay Transfast or xoom.com.

I wonder how the ones that MagicLoui compare to the one I use which is MoneyGram. Paypal is terrible, and WesternUnion is horrible.

btw, Xoom website doesn't even come up, so I'm doubtful about them.

I use xoom to pay people in India and it is pretty good (and fast). When I transfer from my bank account it is a $4.99 flat fee. Transferring from a credit card is $9.99, plus card fees for cash advance. I have not sent money to the Philippines, so that may be different.

The Xoom site is working now so Imma have to take a closer look (even though parts of the site is really slow at the moment).

One of my main concerns is not only taking into account how much is going to cost me but also when sending money, how much will it cost that person in fees? I"m still trying to figure this out with MoneyGram to see if it's a good source to keep using.

    Another option is Ko-kard.

Actually, Xoom ends money remittance via Paypal.

According to the comments left below by Xoom CSR and the discussion in the Xoom blog, remittances to the Philippines will only be accepted by Xoom using a US-based payment source. This special treatment for Philippine transactions could be an indication that we're categorized under "high-risk" for fraud. No big surprise there.
