Screen Capture Software

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend some free screen capture software that also records audio? I know there's stuff like Camtasia which has a free trial; that's not what I'm looking for. I'm looking for software that you've used; something tried an tested!

Thanks in advance

      Techsmith owns them all...

Use Jing. You can record for 5 minutes audio and visual. Just make powerpoint presentation and record your screen and voice with Jing

I still use Camstudio. But in my opinion, the older version of Camstudio is better than the new version. Maybe you can find an older version on CNET or someplace else.

Screencast-o-matic is very reasonable in price. Only about $15 for the year

Brainshark allows you to upload videos or power point presentations and add your voice via micophone or telephone. If you create some power point presentations and include your screenshot, You can then upload them to brainshark and add your audio.

I also use jing, mainly for taking screenshots though but it's also great for recording video and it has audio.

Plus it's also free to use.

If you are looking for something that is free to use, cheap to buy and works out of the box, screen cast o matic, as another poster recommended is a good choice, Personally I use screen flow, its probably the best out there and I have used them all, (absolutely do not like camtasia at all,()

SnagIt is a great little screen capture software from Tech Smith, the same company that makes Camtasia. However, SnagIt is only $50, compared with $300 for Camtasia. Camtasia is also a full video editing software, whereas SnagIt has limited editing capabilities.

SnagIt is super simple to use and yes, it will record your audio along with the screen capture.

      Hope that helps!

Jing is a free software. Then there is CamStudio. I used to use it back in 2006. Now I stick with Camtasia/ScreenFlow

Try fraps if you need game recording. its 40 bucks

techsmith really own the market for good screen recording software with editing abilities, too bad they are so exy, they could triple their income just by making it 49.95 or something.

at 600 bucks im not buying it again after losing my licence key.

    Hi Raffman999,

Hope this helps. Ive used screen-cast-o-matic successfully. I like also that you can be on the screen in the lower right hand corner of the screen via webcam if you so choose.
And you can adjust the screen size, pause and edit while recording your screen. When done you can upload to Youtube plus a few other places. I just used it for youtube.
There is a free version and a paid version for $15.00 for the year.
Not that Techy. Great for beginners.

I've used Screenr . Its very easy to use, but the free version limits you to 5 minutes per recording. You can automatically upload your video to YouYube.
