When You First Started Out...

How long did it take you to get a "good amount" of traffic to your website? I have just started a website a month ago and I am only getting around 10 uniques a day. I know this has probably been covered in another topic but I was wondering if anyone could share some tips on what they did in the first few months of their site launch.

Is it something that really interest you?
If so, that will hopefully mean you are motivated to keep adding content, and telling people about it. When you really love what you do, it ads a level of legitimacy that will carry you forward and earn trust with people that visit the site.

Promote every new blog post like crazy and network with others in my niche.

A lot of my content links out to others in the niche, features them, ego-baits them etc.

I also share a lot of other peoples content and comment on it.

And I let them know I've done it. They'll usually return the favor because my content is good too.

Great content + lots of promotion + lots of networking works for me.

This is dependent on a lot of factors...

Where is your website currently ranked in the search engines?
How many times is the keyword(s) that your trying to rank for searched each month?
How much competition are you dealing with for your target keywords?

Obviously the more competition you have, generally the longer it will take to rank well and start getting more traffic.

And if the keyword you're ranking for does not get much organic traffic already, then you probably won't see see a lot coming in anyway, unless your getting some social media sharing etc.

Curious to know what you're doing to get that traffic and if you have any plans you're considering to get more. Or things you absolutely don't want to do...

The amount of time can really vary depending on the effort, the niche, etc. A "good amount" of traffic can also mean different things to different people.

Keep promoting your site and work on building traffic. Don't worry about how long it takes others.

It took me one year to get about 200-500 uniques/month. Then about 3 more years to get to 2k uniques/month. 2 years after that...I get about 8k uniques/month. I would say I'm far more skilled at web marketing than most people. So perhaps for a more inexperienced person....they would get around a quarter of that...and that's not bad.

Even if I would say that it took me 1 year to get a decent number of daily uniques, it won't still matter to you because it's on a niche-to-niche basis.

It depends on the niche where you're at. If you got a saturated niche, who are you competing with?
You got to consider that as well.

If you're into a niche with less or low competition, check the average monthly search of the keywords you're trying to rank for.

Building Website traffic is a long-term process. You need to think about other metrics in conjunction with those relating to Website visits. What are your sales goals? What is the content of your Website? Are you trying to sell something? To whom? These are all important parts of your overall strategy. Don't focus so much on your progress so far - look at your strategy, look at your goals - then figure out how to get there. Website traffic will fall into place.

You need lots of traffic, PAID TRAFFIC. You can't expect to expand 10 free unique visitors a day to make something big online. You should consider paid traffic and test, test and test.

It depends on how you are promoting it really. If you're just building your site without doing any promotion it can take months before seeing some decent traffic coming in.

Just make sure you create valuable content and perhaps use social media to engage your audience. Also add an opt in form o your site to build your email list and send out notifications if you have added some good content to drive people back to your site.

Getting lots of traffic is not an easy task and it will be time consuming. But new great content on a weekly basis is a good way. Then you need to get the word out there. Help people and do lots of guest posting and blog commenting. Patience is a virtue in this business
