How to find out how & where competitors are advertizing?

Hey everyone, Is there a way to find out how a competitor is advertizing. Not affiliate marketers but a competitor selling a service like say social media marketing service. Would there be a way to find out if they are doing content management or google adwords or anything else? I don't mind paying but it would be great if there were a free resource.

Yes, there are some free ways to analyse on your competitor marketing.

A great tool for keyword and PPC (AdWords) analysis is spyfu.com. It'll show you what keywords they rank for both organic and PPC. How much they spend on PPC, and the actual ads they are using.

For SEO Competetive Analysis, SEJ has a good article detailing some free tools HERE.

The SEJ article lists Open Site Explorer as one option. This and other tools like AHrefs will show you the link profiles of your competitors. This will give you a good idea of how many links they have, who is linking to them etc...and should provide some good insight into their content marketing and SEO strategies.
