So, What Kind of Spam is This Now?

I've noticed a few of these showing up in my analytics lately:

61.kambasoft.com/2.php?u=http://findingtherightinternetmarketingcoach.co

Do they create a redirect, click it and then hope people will backtrack the link?

I've got them on several of my sites from different parts of the world.

So what's going on with these?

    I would ignore them and focus on the useful traffic I'm receiving if I were you unless they were causing serious problems for your site.

    Referer spam

    Several years ago some SEO guys believed that it would help their Google ranking. The theory was that if the site had publicly accessible stats Google would crawl those pages and see the ref spam links. Whether or not there was any benefit is debatable. Today there is no way it's going to help.

    Another possibility is low level spammers looking for traffic. The idea being they hit you with the ref spam, you see it in your logs and check the site out. These idiots are usually from third world nations, broke and desperate for a few hits that obviously aren't going to convert very well.

    It' looks as if it's a pinging program. They may be trying to get trackback links or trying to get traffic by having webmasters click the link to see where the traffic is coming from.

    I have also see this url in my Google Analytics as my wordpress stats. When try to open that url a blank page appears.

    I'm getting a ton of traffic from Kambasoft as well, mostly from Brazil according to Analytics. Yes, I get a blank page too when I go to the URL. Very suspicious indeed!

    It happened a lot in the old days. I second Webmarke, it was likely used so that webmasters will click on the link to know. But I never clicked on those links to check. Nowadays, I don't see that very often anymore.

      I'm not getting tons of traffic from this site but one did land on my analytics yesterday. When I typed it in Google it showed an untitled page so I didn't even bother to click on it.
      On my Analytics It showed the number 31 before the url don't know if that means anything.

        I'm going to go out on a limb here and say Kambasoft.com is run by the same people as Semalt.com.

        I did a quick whois on both domains and there IPs are from the same facility in Holland. They have also changed Ip's a number of times in the past year.
        Semalt seems to go out of it's way to make itself appear in Google Analytics and with more and more webmasters blocking the Semalt domain at the firewall level these guys need to get their data somehow.

          Semalt have provided a page where you can apparently be removed from their crawl list in 30 minutes. h**p://semalt.com/project_crawler.php

          No idea if it works, or the consequences of entering a site in their tool, but whatever, they are unwanted bandwidth hogs so nuke their IP's with .htaccess

            Hi,
            I'm new to forum running and was looking through my stats only to notice a few IPs generating a LOT of traffic.
            Looked at the refering pages and h**p://XX.kambasoft.com/2.php (replace XX's with numbers) in there a lot. I had out of curiosity signed up with Semalt a little while ago ... and have just closed my free account with them and added my sites to their remove list. Be interesting to see if that stops the hits...

    I agree with you, rlognfield. I've blocked the semalt bots using .htaccess and two days later "kambasoft" starts scanning my sites. Doesn't seem like a coincidence...

      This has nothing to do with Indonesian hackers. Semalt is an Ukraine-based SEO and analytics provider. This is not to make advertising for them. I won't get tired of denying them access to my websites, as they decided to steal my bandwidth and f**k up my analytics with their 100% bounce rate.

    Hi,

    I've an answer. Semalt and Kambasoft are robots or spam crawlers.
    So, you can editing your .htaccess file for restrict the crawler to crawl your site :

    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} semalt\.com [NC]
    RewriteRule .* - [F]

    Other fix is add a filter in your Google Analytics.

    Hi, Guys thanks for the suggestions. I have check both semalt and kambasoft ip and block it on my wordfence security plugin settings. It works.
