How to convert SWF files to AVI for free?

Hello folks,
Yesterday I recorded a video on Jing and while I tried to upload the file on youtube, it gave me an error. I guess that's because Youtube does not allow swf files to be uploaded. I have spent the entire night trying to figure out a way to convert swf files to avi or any youtube friendly format. If anyone has done it, please let me know.

  • Try SUPER it can convert most formats to avi and can do so for swf files.

      thanks a lot kim!

      although for everyone's information, even though this software
      is free (the anvsoft flash to video converter), it is a "trial version"
      with a watermark in red font until you buy it.

  • If you'll be able to open that swf file in macromedia flash (If swf isn't protected by original publisher), easily you can convert it to avi in flash.

    • Another one I think works well is MediaCoder. I can't remember if I've tried .swf specifically, but MediaCoder does convert multiple sources and formats to multiple formats.

      well, anyway, i'd like to say that you can use Flash CS3/4 to do that if your swf file is the source file.
      but if you dont have Flash or your swf file isn't the source, you can use iwisoft swf2avi converter which i've used for a long time, i like that, maybe you can try.

    • I downloaded about 4 converters previously that ended up with Huge watermarks on the video unless you upgraded. I tried Format Factory as it worked GREAT!!!!!

    • i am having the same problem as yourreviewer was a few years ago converting jing's
      swf. file format to something useable. you would think after more than 3 years this
      'problem' would be solved.

      and unfortunately, i did not find that format factory works for jing files. although, it
      could be my old computer. i think i saw an alert about missing codecs.

      Anyone creating videos for YouTube should follow the video encoding instructions here.
      (be sure to check out the entire section by using the gray navbar)

      This page shows the settings for various software when saving a video.

      I found that by following their suggested settings, I no longer have issues with larger video files where after an upload the audio gets out of sync with the video.

      Also there are some suggested settings that optimize the video for streaming.

  • For screen recording I use Camstudio. Goes right to .avi and windows movie maker, then .wmv to Youtube. Fast and neat.

    For webcam recording, windows movie maker to youtube.

    I don't use Youtube's webcam recorder though, it comes out a little jerky.

  • i was once using Swish if you know it... don't know if it is still out there... if not, Adobe Flash software can do it
  • I have been using "any-video-converter" for over 2 years now
  • FLV and GOM converter are better, they have a good video output quality.
