Redirect Domain to Affiliate's Sales Page?

Just curious, is it allowed/has anyone ever just bought a domain and then just redirected it to, say, an affiliates website?

I guess you would need the hop link in there somehow huh? Is that possible?

Thoughts are welcome

And can you successfully do this just from Godaddy? Like just redirect it from there without having hosting for the domain?

Yes. Simply use the forwarding feature, and insert the destination URL.

Yes - I routinely do this for many products I promote as an affiliate. And I use those as clickable links within the emails I send to my subscribers with product-recommendations.

I used to use GoDaddy (years ago) and did it there. I had to "do battle with their information pages" to work out how to do a "masked re-direct", but eventually learned how to do it. Like almost everything else, it used to be much harder to do, from GoDaddy's interface, than from those of most domain-name registrars. (Judging by Gene's comment above, they may now have simplified it!). But you should be able to do this (no hosting required for the domain) from any "proper registrar", I think. (I now do it from Namecheap, where it's trivially easy and well explained.)

yeah just take a look at the domain parking business. All they do is send traffic that's coming to a domain (type in traffic usually) and redirect it to a pages with ads to make money.

Yes as others have mentioned you can simply do the redirect from Godaddy. You could also redirect from your cpanel, or do a meta redirect from a page (for instance if you wanted to use the domain to also host a blog or other pages, and not redirect everything). There are multiple ways to do what you are asking. You would just need to do the one that works for you.

I would caution you though that I did this once with a domain and then made some posts on facebook trying to get people to my site. Facebook blacklisted my domain and it is still blacklisted, meaning I cant post that URL on Facebook at all. I get a pop up window saying that until the URL is removed the post can not be made. I have since removed the redirect and use the domain for other things, but Facebook still has it blacklisted. I have been asking for two months now to have it whitelisted, but no luck. Does anyone know how to get a domain whitelisted on Facebook?

Yes its very possible. All you have to do is do domain forwarding and mask the domain with your affiliate link so that when they click on the domain it would redirect them to the affiliate page.

    Hope that helps

Check the affiliate agreements you are re-directing to. I do believe that some do not like/allow it.

Also, be careful if you are thinking about including a brand name in the domain. Nothing upsets some companies more than someone using their trademarked name, even if you are sending the traffic to them.

Would just like to ask why do you want to redirect to affiliate page from domain redirection. Meaning just are you building a list or just using the link for tracking purposes

also, it would be hard to get organic traffic to the site, as it is just a redirect right? So what would be the best route to get a large amount of consistent traffic?

so im on godaddy right now and its asking if i want to forward only or forward with masking?

What do yall suggest? For masking it asks for a title, description, and keywords. Do these really matter?

Yes. With masking, your redirected website will still show up with a title at the top and will have your description and keywords in the header. This is as close to SEO as you can get with a forwarded domain. If you don't use masking, it will just forward the domain without a title, description, and keywords.

So it really depends. If you are targeting a specific keyword(s), then I'd use masking. If you are not and don't care then you don't need the masking.

Yes that's a very common way of "tricking" visitors. It isn't illegal, but you need to check with your affiliate site - not everyone allows that. I personally hate redirects.
