6000$ by Flipping a Wallpaper Website?? Confused..!!

hey every one,

I always keep searching for new things and last day I found that on Flippa a wallpapers website is sold for 6000$+ ... Isn't it amazing that u just add wallpapers with small descriptions using a plug in and there u go ...
I contacted some of such flippers and they told me , they search KW , then use High CTR wallpaper theme , install 2 main plugins + 1 special plug in which helps in image posting.. After a month or 2 their wallpaper site is ready to sell for thousands of $$..

So guys and gals what's your opinion in this matter , Any body on this forum doing the same ? lets share your expert opinion on this..

Keep learning and earning Warriors

I went to flippa and visited the site you are referring to. Not a bad site. But the reason it is only making $51/mo is not because he hasn't spent enough time on it. Image sharing sites are pretty easy to build a Facebook & Social Media following.

    2 Problems.

    1. If the images are not unique (most wallpaper sites just use stock images) then you will be limited on how big the site can grow. Unique wallpaper will have a long term success in your growth.

    2. Image sharing sites, funny video sites, etc, will never have a great adsense stream. Sites that make great money on adsense are themed around keywords that people are buying in Google Adwords. Free wallpaper is not one of those. Therefore, the ads that your site will show are not going to convert very well.

Lastly, sites without tangible inventory, equipment, etc, are usually valued about 2-2.5 times previous years net. So If you are making $50/mo minus $20/mo for hosting, and other fees, your net is $30 x 12 = $360. Multiply that times two or two and a half. Between $720 and $900 would be closer to the value of this site.

No matter how much a person thinks their site (or purports that it) is worth, there is always a Market value. If you are going to invest in something like this, no matter how easy the plugins are that run the site, you should keep this in mind.

    Hope this helps,

hmmm , animatedmonkey actually i am not talking about 50$ / mo site , actually those sites are making 300$ to 1000$ with just adsense...
actually site sold for 6K was making 1K a month minus 10$ so you got 990$ in total profit. Thats what got my attention.. and surely gets my attention

I think I might disagree just a bit with animatedmonkey. The reason is because there are indeed ways to monetize these sites. Of course, AdSense isn't it. But adding targeted affiliate programs can pay off very nicely. The key is experimentation: it may take you awhile to figure out what works, but the end result is worth it when you find something that sticks!

I realise that AdSense is a precarious and Google-dependent income-source, but I must say that even so, I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to sell that for only $6,000, myself. I'd be wanting much nearer to double that, for it.

Good to see you in Alexa

U are absolutely right ,any established seller will try to double it. This thing actually confused me , y they sell them if earning 1K per month from adsense . The answer i got from majority of them are :

          1) "I am Flipper , dont like to keep sites for long "
2)"I need revenue for big project , cant wait"
          3) I cant Trust Google Algo's alot..(Seems much familiar to me)

One thing that always stuck with me was when I was told that your domain or site is only worth what someone will pay for it.
A domain or site can sell for more or less depending on so many factors, sure there is a market value but in the end if a site or domain is very important to someone they may pay more.

I would bet to say his $1000+ sales have other unknown factors involved, while most sites maybe sell for less. This is only speculation.

I think another good rule is to assume everything on the internet is always 2-2.5 times smaller then stated.

AndromedaDev , thanks for your contribution buddy

regarding domain name , believe me i have seen website having domain name far far away from topic , actually off topic then the actual content of the site , still get to manage 2K-3K Flipp. Reason is the repo of Seller... So the things which a buyer see are : 1) Consistent organic traffic 2) Geo location 3) Ease of Website update / Management 4) Lattest profit 5) future scope .

Domain name do matter but if you are getting 300$ per month with thousands of visitors organic and consistent + good repo seller + ease of content update then wont u mind to get it?

Yes if you're flipping websites, then there are certain sites that sell very good, usually the one's that make some good adsense money. (if it's sold by a flipper that is).

So you have to do some research on the matter. I saw a seller there which sold about 400K worth of sites, they were all making decent adsense income and the same niches. And what i notice for all sites a lot of images are used and blocked with a plugin, so if you find images in google search you have to click through to the site to actually see it.

I guess if you can create a system where you outsource large part of the site creation process you can do really well there.

Yap jens , thats exactly what i see on Flippa as well. Seller having more than 400K worth of sites having all on the same niche . Once u grab the whole process then i don't see any difficulty to outsource it , i am actually heading towards the same direction . i will build site , then flip it , a couple of them . Then do outsourcing .... Easy earnings

Yes exactly if you have time to create multiple sites and wait until they start earning then that could be a solid busness model.

The only issue i see (which might not matter to you) is that you'll need to wait atleast 2-3 months before selling your first sites. If you don't have an issue about that then just start building and you'll making some good money in the near future.
