Idea for a financial product - how do I market it?

Hi,

I have developed a product that allows me to managed my pension fund (mutual fund in the USA) in a few hours a month, and beat the index and the professionals. I avoided the 2008 crash and made money, and it is easy to show others to do the same.

I reckon there is a market for these products with other private investors.

My question is:

How do I market it?

I am loathe to spend a lot of time creating the product only to find it wasnt bought.

How would I start with the marketing?

Thanks,
Alex

The quick and easy way to test if your idea is marketable is to create a "tripwire" centered around a free webinar or free access to a forum centered on your niche.

Then, spend $100 (or so) on Adwords/Fb PPC targeting your ideal customers.

Within the webinar or free forum upsell via a VSL (or live webinar) to your "actual" product.

If you can turn a profit, build your paid course/product "as you go" and scale out your PPC and begin SEOing your "tripwire" for "problem" keywords or "question" keywords where people are looking for a solution.

I would start with Facebook PPC and banner ads on relevant websites in the financial/investment niche.

You could also post regularly on popular forums within your niche with your signature linking to your product sales page or squeeze page.

Judging from the tone of your post I'd say you probably aren't interested in the financial risk or work load of selling this project on your own. Find someone to partner with that has an existing high level traffic source to tap into. The more work you are willing to do and the more credit you are willing to give them for it, the greater your chances of striking a deal.

Speak to Jason Kanigan, a member here, he's worked in that arena.

Do some research online to identify a potential market for the business. While doing such research try and confine your potential area of business to a particular geographic area first. Later you can expand this zone to cover a wider area. Good luck.

You need ways to demonstrate your product works.

Did you create the product or not? From your post, it is unclear whether you have something to sell yet.

If not, the popular answer here would be along the lines of putting up a "coming soon" landing page and beginning to build a list of interested consumers.

Personally, I would develop the product, find a few beta testers, get some reviews, then put it out there.

If it finds a market, you win. If not, you learned something valuable for your next effort.
