I am a Google Partner here in Dallas and received this email today. Right now its an invite only
What do you guys think about Google getting into domain registration market?

I use godaddy right now but I would trust google over Go-daddy anyday

Any thoughts?

Last month, Google announced a new product in beta, called Google Domains, a registrar that helps you find, buy, transfer and manage all of your domains. Because you're a member of Google Partners, we'd like to invite you to test out Google Domains, before it's available to the public, and help us make improvements.

To try it out, apply this code before August 15th, 2014, and receive a free one-year registration of a standard domain name ($12 value). XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

What are the benefits?

• Manage your clients' domains with ease.

• Connect and integrate with top website builders like Shopify, Squarespace, Weebly and Wix.

• Set up your clients with free features like custom email addresses, domain forwarding and private registration.

I wouldn't trust Google with any domain registrations. They already know enough about us...why give them even more information that could potentially hurt your sites rankings into the future.

So would I. But then again, that's not saying much. GoDaddy (and perhaps 1and1) are probably the only companies that I'd trust less than Google. I'd trust Namecheap hundreds of times as much as either of them.

1and1.. The worst company i have ever dealt with in my life.
Register a domain... Takes 2 hrs if they actually register...
And if you decide you don't want the domain, you can't just let it expire unlike Godaddy.

They even sent me a DEBT Collectors After me for 20 something dollars, when i asked why. They said, domain remains active till i CANCEL it. If i let it expire.. They will still keep domain active but send me bills.

I paid 20 dollars and moved on rather than argue with them, but i vowed to NEVER use them ever in my life.

They'll get bored and drop this project like they do with many other things. I am not interested in their experiment nor am I interested in giving them anymore information.

I think the more you can keep Google away from your personal info the better off you will be !
I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole and if it's was free ...

As it is Google sells to the US Federal Government everything their is about each and every one of us and I could just imagine what other data that they will gather on us by being a domain registry ...

I thought they've had domain registration for awhile. I remember google sites, before social media had the option to register a domain. maybe this is just a new marketing attempt at their services.

GoDaddy is a perfectly safe option. They house some of the world's most valuable domains.
