WOW!
I admire that so much. I can only do 3 or 4 in a day before they stop making any sense, lol. 200 in a month is outstanding. I haven't been doing this very long either, so I'm no expert, but what worked for me was taking the articles I had already written and making hub pages and squidoo lenses out of them. I also started wordpress and blogger blogs and rewrite the first few sentences of the articles as blog posts with a blurb at the end "continue >>" or "Read More >>".

And in addition, I keep churning out more articles and have a 10 day autoresponder on one site, and am getting one ready for the other to make sure I have a growing list.

Just a couple of ideas. Maybe one of the gurus here that knows way more than me can give the idea a thumbs up or down and come up with some other ideas.

You want to think through how you made that $800 and see if you can capitalize on it.

Are you building a list from the traffic you're creating that you can market to over and over?

Are you using the articles to get your own website pages ranked high in the search engines for long tail keyword phrases?

With a bit of luck you may be able to maintain a percentage of those current sales without any extra work so if you keep writing articles your monthly income should also increase.

In other words 3-6 months of this kind of effort combined with improving the way you optimize the traffic you create could give you a nice ongoing income.

Article spinners don't really work that well. Many use synonyms for word to replace, but the meaning of the article is lost. Even most don't deal well with the spiders.

If anyone has a different experience, I'd love to know about it. I hate writing articles, but it's super profitable in this market.

  I advise that you can have a "Intense One Week Article Submission" done once a month. That means, blast out all the articles in a week. Rest or do other work for the next 3 weeks, come back again and start blasting.

I really can't think of a niche not suitable for listbuilding - except you tell us of course.

In the meantime I think with a list you will make more money.

You will be leveraging your traffic. Look at this way, if everone that came to your website bought from you you would have made 3-5 times more than $855 which is no small matter. You must do something about those not buying.

So build a list...start now

bro sometimes your niche will affect ur article writing etc ..i had written few articles before until i realize that there's not much demand in the niche or the niche is overcrowded and full with 'experts'..or the field is not desperate enough to buy or do anything except for reading in quick glance and proceeding surfing the net..so it's fairly hard to convince people to buy from us, own products or affiliate..i learnt the hard way 1-2 years before untill i found that very little niche with 100-200 searches per day, sometimes less but the pay out is really big..the best is the niche that no one else is raving about...it's a challenge for most of all, yeah i've been told million times before, sell in the sellable market but the more i want to sell, the more i get frustrated by it..

but the good news is once you've located ur unique niche, that little darn thing that everyone was searching for, u don't have to write like crazy anymore..just maintain blogs and a well crafted copy writing skills will earn you money

hey i'm no expert, just sharing with you and others .. IMHO, most people including me stuck in niches that are not for us ... i wish u'll find it as well

For all the newbies out there, what sree94 did here is the contrary to what every IM beginner or newbie does, which is lack of focus and action.

They never stick to anything and just keep on buying the next best product.

If you stick to a plan of action that works and don't buy the next best thing, I guarantee you will make money like sree94 did.

If there was one thing I'd do just starting from scratch it would be to... YES, you got it... Build a list!

For over 18 months I did not spend any time building a list.

Now with everything I do I try to remember not to get tempted to go for a straight sale unless I'm testing a new product. Even then I still have a way to build some sort of list...

I simply don't have the energy to go back and create new article bios for the first 200+ articles I wrote when first starting out.

Oh! Congratulations! It took me well over 12 months to write my first 200 articles. Now I outsource so that's another important aspect to consider as mentioned by TimG if you get burned out of writing and want to expand. TimG really knows what he's talking about to have over 1500 articles out there.

Also, here's the thing about article marketing. I have an adsense site and I wrote about 60 articles for ezinearticles and 10 for Associated Content, and it got really tedious doing that because I'd write an article and traffic would trickle in, i'd get like $6 in adsense clicks, and traffic would then die down in a few days.

After three months I got sick of it, stopped writing articles, and figured the site would just die and my traffic would do away.

That did not happen. My PR rose to 3, traffic has been steady ever since and i have not done jack to the site or written any more articles since the END OF FEBRUARY. Today my adsense was $12. I loves me some passive income.

My point is that you have not wasted your time, because over time the backlinks that you have created will help your sites rise in the ranking and you will see passive income for a long time to come.

The problem with becoming in article writer for others is you have to keep writing to keep earning. Say the OP current articles only bring in $100 next month and they write another 200 articles that earn $800 for a total of $900.

Then the next month the 400 articles already done earn $200 and another 200 articles do $800 that is $1000.

Overall that is a lot of work for $1,000 but it is scalable and can be outsourced.

Building lists and other "building out" steps can significantly increase the amount of money earned.

That's $2000 ...

Bad idea!

Because the income from the articles will be residual. He made $800 this month, but those articles will still keep paying off month after month totaling much more than $2000. Bum marketers continue making sales off of articles submitted 1 or 2 years before.

How are the all the backlinks from the articles affected your rankings in the serps? Have you checked your rankings for the keywords you target?

A good strategy from here on out concerning your article submissions could be to get your ranking pages onto page 1 of google and eventually in the top 3 listings.

Are you kidding?! I just graduated from nursing school!

There's SO much that you could follow up with.

You'd be surprised at how little people know about getting into nursing school. Things like:

Getting their initial credits to be able to apply to multiple nursing schools.
How to get their loans set up properly for nursing school.
Places to get their nursing books and supplies for heavily discounted prices and not being gouged by the school bookstore.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg! I can't beleive that you haven't started a list for that site!

I think Nursing schools would love to get a hand on your leads and pitch them into their school. Maybe you could sell your leads? Maybe there are CPA campaigns for you to convert these leads?

Heads up:

Many speak of lists here, but don't forget offline list info gathering, as well. Mailing postcards at least quarterly, every 6 months or annually, can pay off big time.

Send a link to your website in the postcard plus include postcard specials that your web-visitors can find there, for example. Just load your Excel list to the US Post Office’s site that handle this:

…and either load your own creation or use one of theirs. My company does this regularly.

I guess the only reason I havent started yet is because I want to get a business license to make everything legal. ) awesome advice and actually got into nursing school, I would say products about studying, time management, memory improvement, and also nursing itself would probably do well.

Is it to educate and sell the visitor on your products or is it to get the sales page high in the rankings so another page can actually 'sell' the products?

There are numerous benefits to writing articles.

You give the reader a little bit of valuable information about their problem, but not enough that they don't need your product. Then you can either steer them to your website, where you have a pre-sell page...or steer them directly to the merchant's page...or you can steer them to an adsense site.

Products you could promote to them (off the top of my head):

- Test taking skills
- Stress Management Courses
- Insomnia help (lots of nurses work the night shift and have trouble working during the day)
- Yoga courses (lots of nurses are into health and so few of them take time for it).

Just a few things you could stick into an autoresponder.

Or, here's an idea. Build a list by saying "Everything you ever wanted to know about getting into nursing school" and then day 2 autoresponder sends them a link to a surveymonkey survey where you ask them what they want to get from being a part of your community.

Then, create/find products around what they tell you they want.

If I'm not mistaken, GetResponse (which I use and I believe to be on par with aweber (the two best autoresponder services out there)) offers a free trial, so you can always start building your list for free in your free landing pages until some money starts kicking in and you only have to pay like $20/month for their full service.

You can send promotions about nursing schools, school loans, etc. I took a look and a lot of affiliate programs that pay $15-25 CPA! That's pretty sweet since they don't have to buy anything just sign up to request free information and you get paid. :-)

Hey Dana,
Here's what I'd do with that list. Create a few articles/ebooks about how to study for/pass the exams more easily. What to expect once in nursing school and how to make the experience easier. How to find employment as a nurse once school is finished.

Make alliliate deals with nursing supply companies and then email the list with the best/economical place to purchase Nursing Uniforms, Comfortable Shoes, Supplies, etc...all through your affiliate links.

If you want to go "Black Hat" you could sell your list to Nursing related magazines, and industry journals, etc...

There alot of ways for you to benefit from your list. They bought/dealt with you once before, they will be inclined to do it again if you offer them something of value.

You may want to consider a nursing newsletter. The beauty of this is that you can get many contributors/writers by giving them a bi line. You could gather articles from other magazines and reference the source with a link back to the original article/magazine. Or you could use ezine article directories for content, too.

Sell advertising in your newsletter. The list goes on.

You are leaving lots of money on the table, here. Pick it up, darlin'! It's yours for the taking.

Take $600 of the original $855 and spend it on some outsourced articles using reliable writers from this forum - There are plenty here!!! While your outsourced articles are being completed continue to do your own writing and submitting. Once your outsourced articles are ready, begin to submit them while still maintaining your own article writing.

By now perhaps a month has passed and you should have generated slightly more income then the previous month. Continue to repeat this process but as your income increases you increase the amount of outsourced articles you purchase. This is the process of building your article marketing funnel.

Eventually you get to where a site is paying to build itself while providing a small (but growing) and steady profit margin for you.

I've done this with many of my original sites and they consistently churn out income month after month even after I stopped submitting articles on their behalf.

Mike,
A properly constructed article (meaning title, content and resource box) will generate visitors and income indefinately because it has the ability to maintain its ranking in the search engines.

Another example of articles making income infinately for its owner can be illustrated by your earlier posting where you mentioned putting your articles in an autoresponder series and having it sent out to the people on your list. As long as you continue to accumulate subscribers those articles have the potential to earn you income.

Mike I can give you the exact lifespan of 1 article I wrote. I was asked by a website that I was a member of to write a long article for them. It was around 1,800 words. They published it, but they didn't want exclusive rights, I still own the copyright for it.

That was in 2001 and they pay me every single month $30 until 2104, the payment is 3 different levels in their membership site, but it is a niche I am in, and most marketers don't use paid forums for their research. I get access to their forum, articles and owners (extra benefit) and they have over 1 million members which is a good place to do research.

That has to be my best paid article.

This thread has been a huge "ah-ha!" moment for me. I am going to start a very similar process tomorrow. PS: thank you, OP, you are a huge inspiration for newbies like me who don't know where to begin. Your results are amazing!

I plan on focusing on one general, big, popular niche. Everyone here recommends building a list, which I plan on doing.

Is it best to just register a good domain name and have all my articles point to that domain name? Should I avoid all product promotion for now, and have that domain name set up solely to build a list?

Or is it possible to do both -- sell on affiliate products, AND build a list at the same time?

Recently I have been doing article marketing(about 150 a month) but only made about $100 for all my effort. Can you answer this for me? Are you writing articles and directing them to your personal sites(blog), landing pages, or a merchant's page?

I direct them to my personal page, because it is something I have total control over.

I did make posts on Squidoo, Hub Pages, Wordpress, Blogger, etc. Basically all the free content hosting sites, just to get some more link love.

I am also using Linkvana, which at $150 is pricey, but people swear by it, so I am giving it a shot. I also have a 3WayLinks account

  While I 'believe' I've written a lot of articles, when I check it isn't nearly as many as I think. That's because many were blog posts, plus other tasks have gotten in the way of article writing. Thanks to your post, I am once again encouraged to get back at it.
  
  A spurt in article writing triggered by Travis's BUM Marketing report brought some quick sales for me last year, so I know your approach works.
  
  You have done extremely well for one month's work. It takes great determination and persistence to produce large quantities of articles. You can be sure that they will bring you future sales.
  
  Almost 2 years ago, I wrote an article on one product that I knew very little about so I never got around to doing more on the subject. That one article keeps bringing me sales after all this time. It's not consistent, but every now and then I make a few sales, which is always a pleasant surprise.

Awesome - That's good stuff, real good stuff. Based on some of the tips provided in this thread you should be able to significantly increase that amount. You can even start the outsourcing piece next month and just focus on yoru own article marketing efforts this month in order to build up a reserve of funds to order 2 months of articles so you can submit some and still have a supply on hand while you continue to write your own.

  Great results, but as mentioned already you've got to build a list.
  
  So it's not a one-shot thing. So it's not a fluke.
  
  When you build a list, that traffic you get from 5 months ago is still worth money to you today. If you don't, you have to keep on finding new customers.
  
  I've said it a few times before, a list is a traffic funnel. You can literally command traffic at will when you have a list.
  
  That is a power you don't have if you redirect straight to an affiliate link or Adsense ad and help build the merchant's business as they get the leads and the customer list.
  
  So you can be in an article marketing niche that gets 5 times less traffic than some other people, but if you build a list, you can market to them forever. You'll definitely get a value of more than 5 times the traffic that your Adsense earning and 'instant gratification' affiliates are getting
  
  You are building a long-term business when you build a list.

One of the worst things people don't do is put some of the money they earned to work for them. How can u build a business if you don't plow some of your profit back into it.

Yeah investing back into your business is a must. One of the keys though is know they amount of money you are bring in on a per site basis. I know a lot of people that invest in the dud sites and do not put anything into the sites that are doing well.

It is a question of turning good to great or dud to average.

I've read many excellent suggestions here and the only thing I'd have to add at this point is--If you've been focusing on the number of articles out there--200 in one month, which is roughly 6 or more articles per day then perhaps it's time to start focusing on the quality of the articles that you are writing and improve upon your copywriting skills.

Now that you can outsource articles at $5 per article, you can hire a writer to keep the numbers going and put your time to better use by analyzing which of your articles are performing well and if you can improve upon their conversion rates.

There was a post in the old forum by Richard Peck on how he made $800 in one month with just a few articles--I think it was 5 but don't rightly remember. He attributed his success to strong copy writing skills. I think that post should give you a lot of pointers.

So if you can write say 5 similar articles in the niches where you are having the most success, you should be able to really skyrocket your business

So lets say you can only write 5 articles a day is it still worth it when it comes to profits down the road? Sounds like everyone does the article marketing and do pretty well at it. Just curious since I work full time and do my side thing here. And if you only can write 5 articles a day how many products would you promote only one or several?

5 articles a day can also make you some nice profits, and as far as promoting several products goes, I would recommend it because that way you can diversify the keyword research and implementation.

Great post. I think Fabian and Mike have hit in right on the head. There was also the tip about re-investing some of your profits and getting articles made for you. Great stuff but you definitely need your squeeze page to capture those names.

You dont need a high end program to create these, you can use a simple html editor like NVU but you're going to need a list host like Aweber or getresponse. Throw some benefit driven bullets on your squeeze page
and your on your way. Market to your list with related products to the articles you are writing...

hammering people with emails until they buy from you is not a good way to keep a list. You want to give them valuable content, some free stuff and then from time to time you send them an affiliate product that you promote. Also if you send them a free ebook, put some affiliate links in there.

That shouldn't be necessary with all the articles you've written.

If you have your articles on your own website as well as on sites like Ezine Articles then you can send your subscribers to each of the related articles in your niche.

On the page with each article you can have affiliate links, products you sell etc etc.

So your subscribers (who signed up because of one of your articles) keep getting more of the same plus a gentle nudge to buy over and over.

If you're writing articles you definitely want them on your own website as a priority.

Ultimately you want to create your own traffic to your own website, create your own email lists and over time perhaps even have your own products or products you've created with a JV partner.

Great input and advice on this thread.

I guess I will have to be the one that puts a little bit of a downer on things. If you are in the States (and probably every where else in the world) you need to take some of that money and put it aside for Uncle Sam or else you may not have to worry about expanding your business.

I know, I know. But I am really just trying to add something that will be useful.

- what you promoted (the product/service url)
- the article directories you submitted these too

And I'll give killer, step-by-step, practical tips on how to improve your resource box CTR, and the offer you're pre-selling.

I ran across this guy by accident.

Go to EzineArticles and search for author Ian Pennington. Look at his profile. He's gone from 500 articles to 652 articles since I looked a couple of weeks ago.

He writes about a large variety of subjects, many unrelated. Go to one of his artlcles and click on his links to go to his Adsense website.

All his websites look the same and are formatted the same except for the graphic header as far as I can tell.

I think he has some RSS feeds into his wordpress blogs also.

I find what he does very interesting and somewhat of a model to study. I wonder how he's doing money wise! :rolleyes:

It seems like he has a Wordpress template setup with Adsense that he just copies from one domain to another then fills it with content.

Has anyone heard of him or know what 'guru' he is probably following?

Hopefully we can learn something by observation!

Yeah, writing articles is a must, not only for the money but especially for the links that you get which brings you traffic for life.

My friend, keep doing what you're doing and keep us posted on your progress. Congratulations, not everybody makes that kind of money online so soon.

This is all fantastic and positive advise.

I found by offering work on Elance I actually received some fantastic strategy as the different writers competing for my contract pitched examples of there writing and also made suggestions.

When I lifted my articles from 500 words to between 700-800 I found that this improved my traffic greatly.

I have a W.S.O in play at the moment and on the sales page I have a little audio that talks about the proposition of getting 1 million dollars upfront or 1 dollar a day doubled every day for a month.

The dollar stat will really surprise you when you do the math,but the concept of leverage and compound interest is what you have in play with you 200 articles.

It does take patience sometimes though.

well done I commend you effort and energy.

I bet you have sore shoulders from all that typing.

With that many articles out there right now, you might want to consider building their value.

Check the search engines for articles that you have written that are ranking well. I usually look for articles that are somewhere in the first 5 pages of Google.

Once you locate those articles start building some backlinks to them to try to boost their ranking. You can do this in a couple of ways.

1. Reply to blogs that are niche specific with a link back to your article.
2. Comment on other articles on EzineArticles
3. Answer questions on Yahoo Answers with links back to your article.
4. rewrite the original article slightly and do a mass submission linking back to your original article.
5. Link back to your article in upcoming articles you publish.

This benefits you in a couple of ways. If your article already has a somewhat good ranking, the chances are good that the search engines are
just looking for a reason to boost your rankings. Give them what they want and build some links.

One other way it benefits you, is if you can get a good first page ranking for a decent traffic keyword you can change your attention to perhaps a different niche and repeat the steps you have already done to have another income stream.

Another thing you might want to consider is turning your EzineArticles account to an RSS feed and submitting it to a couple of RSS submission sites. This will give you a ton of backlinks to everything you publish that will build up over time.

Also, consider taking advantage of some of the free sites such as blogger, squidoo, hubpages, and wordpress, to either link to your articles or to your landing page of choice.

There are a ton of ways to leverage the content that you already have out there right now, that will allow you to profit a good bit more from the effort that you have already put in.

If you don't have time to do link building, consider outsourcing it somewhere. Often times, for something simple like that you can pay a couple of bucks an hour for a couple hours a day and within a couple of weeks have a ton of links build to not only your articles but your other real estate as well.

Oh - if you're wondering about the other $255 that was left over. I recommend you pay 1 small bill with some of it (for a sense of accomplishment), place a small amount in savings (for a rainy day) and use the rest to splurge on something for yourself because you earned it (for a sense of happiness/reward). You could also treat a friend or family member(s) to something nice like dinner because chances are good that while you were busy writing your articles during the month you most likely ignored them unintentionally (making amends with family and friends).

To add on, I heard this saying:
- Always invest 10% of the profits back in the business.
- Invest Another 10% in our development.
- Save another 10% into you savings accounts.
- Spend the remaining 70%
Of course the percentage may vary. Personally I save 50%, invest 25% and spend the remaining. :p

This is were you need to make a business decision...

1. Invest half your months profits into having more articles created for you... For now Do NOT pay any more than $5 per article...

2. That means each month you are going to be making more and more money as your article count increases...

3. Take 50 of your articles and put them into an autoresponder series to be delivered to your list every 2nd day...

4. Create quick tip audio podcasts out of each article and submit them to several podcasting sites... (use PodPusher.com)

5. Create your audios into videos with some PowerPoint slides and submit them to YouTube, etc...

6. Join high-end affiliate programs related to your niche that also have recurring income (membership sites)... and promote them to your list. At the end of each of your autoresponder messages promote the program, one at a time and see which one performs the best...

7. Wash Rinse Repeat...

The key is to replace yourself from doing the work with outsourced teams you can trust to do a good job. You may have to try a few places before finding the right people but make sure you find the right people (That's also important)

Be sure to track the CTR you're getting from all those articles, assuming you have a way to track such a thing. I know EZA tracks URL clicks from article body and resource box. Really pay attention to that, because you can increase your income quite substantially if you get better at it. The other part of the equation is maximizing your conversions at your site. If your income is from Adsense, make sure you've got your ad blocks/units positioned properly and blended with your content to get the highest CTR possible.

Honestly, if you're not getting a minimum 10% CTR to your site from the articles and another 10% CTR on Adsense ads, you're not doing it well enough (in my opinion). I was able to take my EZA CTR to 26% from a measly 3% by coming up with better titles and much better endings (call to action). Adsense CTR is mostly about tightly focused content on each page of your site + proper blending and positioning of ad blocks. You should be able to get close to 20% CTR there if you test a lot.

Seriously, if you can make $800+ from one month of effort and you're NOT getting very high CTR's, you are literally sitting on a goldmine, my friend! You should be able to exceed that with half as many articles monthly if you really dig in and analyze things closely. Great job and best of luck going forward! BE PROUD OF YOURSELF!!!

I think that $855 will be the minimum you're going to make if you continue the same momentum next month. Analyze your results, write more articles in niches which are bringing more results, build a list, test and track and outsource.

Doing all these things will help to increase your income. If you're consistent at writing content then you should be able to turn that content into money in one way or another. Your time is never wasted writing content.

One thing I would add to all the great advice above, treat this as profit from your customer acquisition strategy!

In many markets I have helped clients make millions in the long term by losing money initially on attracting new customers, you made hundreds of dollars AND gained customers.

The trick (as already mentioned) is getting them onto your list, because then you can up-sell, cross-sell and increase lifetime value.

So ... optimize what you have ... grow your list ... get more value out of each customer ... profit ... rinse and repeat

  You may not have made the money you wanted, but 800 bucks is 800 bucks...you've proved to yourself that it works. All you need to do now is maximise the things that make money, and reduce the things that don't and apply as much leverage as possible.
  
  Why not do as Timg says and hire some writers for more articles, and continue to write some yourself?
  
  If you continued along these lines for say 6 months, you'd have a pretty good amount of residual traffic reaching your offers, and residual traffic = hands off profit...

  That's approx 21% ctr which is very good. Well done.
  
  Just think you had approx 4000 clicks so you could realistically have built a list of 1000 so far and growing. You don't want to overlook list building.
  
  For the next few days slow down on the writing and think about how you can maximize the effects of all the work you have done.
  
  For example, if you only submitted the articles to EZA consider creating squidoo lenses and hubpages for some of the articles. Submit some articles to other article directories for extra backlinks.
  
  Make sure you are using keyword backlinks in your articles so your own sites will be at the top of Google in no time. Google traffic lasts longer than article directory traffic and is more profitable.

My stats are not quite far off from you. I just submitted 4 articles in eza last month and it generated 431 views with 99 url clicks. Now I understand that volume is the key here. If I can only sustain article production just like what you did, I would have generated 21k views and 4950 clicks, of course that assumes i maintain the same average.

Congratulations! Here is an extra tip for you...

Once your articles get out there, and start getting natural searches, be sure to use a tracker. One that tracks what keyword brings the visitor to your site and what keywords are getting the click throughs. You will begin to see a pattern of certain keywords get clicks more than others.

The most important thing is that of those keywords, certain ones will be the people that click through the most often to your clickbank offers. And of those, certain keywords some will be your main purchasers.

These are the keywords you want to focus on. Write articles for the directories on these keywords and make sure to post some on your site as well.

These are your golden eggs.

Hi,

My suggestion is look at which products you got the most sales from.

Then write the same articles JUST for those products while creating your own products in the same niche.

You can then move onto Clickbank with products that you know sell, you will already have a load of articles and you will also get people becoming your affiliate and you should then make well over $3000.

Don't give up this is the time to go faster!

Jason, EZA is regarded as the best, but there are other good article directories. Buzzle.com is another great one and Ideamarketers.com is also good but it doesn't do as well in the search engine rankings for some reason, however, if you get syndicated hits for your articles there you are in for some nice traffic.

Those are the 3 main ones I use, but there are hundreds.

With that many articles on EZA you can start analyzing your stats there. Which articles had the best CTR and why? Which the most views? Also compare the stats with the 'most viewed' articles of your category to see if and where is room for improvement.

I did double my CTR and views with that.

Writing articles by hand and submitting them to the directories is totally exhausting.

I have to say that I am really impressed that you managed to write that many in one month. I know how exhausting it is writing articles because I used to do it.

There's a much, much easier way though.

I also congratulate you on taking massive action and for the results you had as a new IMer.

Maybe I missed it in reading all these posts, but have you considered the niches themselves and the products you are selling? With a good CTR, lots of articles of quality content, and products that are for a hungry audience, you should be able to make a nice monthly income.

I know my first IM experience was almost unbelievable because I made more than $12K selling two eBooks I wrote and sold for less than $10 each. I also did no article writing (I didn't even know about it when I first started) and instead wrote about 6-8 posts on a Wordpress blog. But the biggest element of my success was because I offered good quality "food" to a very hungry audience.

So, my advice is to check out your audience and the products you are offering them. Make sure the price point is appropriate. My audience wouldn't pay more than about $10 for the eBooks. But I made up for that in quantity. So your product may not be the best match or the price might not be right for your audience.

List building is king, no doubt about it.

Most Article courses talk about writing articles about topics and give parameters for the keywords. However, they never mention anything about Staying on one topic. How else can you build a list? I mean, you don't want 100 different topics and 100 different capture pages with 80 people on each list.

So, my point, find a niche that will last for the long haul if you are going to build a list.

Preferably a niche you enjoy writing about and learning about.

OK, so my intense article marketing period ended about four weeks ago. Since then, I have cut back on the articles. I basically write only one article a day for the niche that is bringing me virtually all of my sales.

I've tried to get tons of backlinks to my "performing" sites, though I am not seeing much increase in rankings.

I have now decided to get involved in as many niches as possible, to get as many income funnels as I can.

My biggest frustration is not being able to get more traffic to my main converting site. I am still only averaging 50 visitors a day, yet I am selling almost one product per day. If I could just get this traffic up!!!!

List building is a must of course, but I concentrate on building RESPONSIVE lists. It's not difficult to build a huge list that never buys anything from you, so for me at least I concentrate on building responsive lists.

My main money comes from small lists, where I get very high conversions. 40% from one recent email.

Article marketing combined with a half decent promotion campaign and sales are very nice indeed.

Don't just go for masses of articles submitted to all the article sites.

My particular preference calls for a total of 45 articles, spread over a 30 day period and my August commissions were over $25,000 - mixture of physical / digital products.

Fully agree with article marketing - just not totally on board with the mass approach.

Plan where and when to release your articles and you can magnify the effect many, many times over.

You've done the hard work and made some money, now - outsource!

Outsourcing is the key to big, big money!

When you get your hands on a pile of profits, work hard to figure out how to multiply your efforts through outsourcing.

Like someone mentioned earlier in this thread, outsource the article creation and submission process, then I would spend the a lot of my time...

Repositioning my articles into other types of content and plaster them all over the net.

- Blog posts & ping ( start a small blog farm )
- Hub & Squidoo Pages
- Bookmark EVERYTHING!
- Other methods...

( look up Matt Bacak - in this forum for article distribution/re purposing tips )

Of course, it won't hurt your long term business situation - if you begin to build and market to your lists.

You doing a lot of hard/smart work. Why not build a long term asset in the process?

Here's an idea.

Build a list by redirecting each article to a squeeze page. Market to the list...and make more sales.

Take that 855 dollars and reinvest in some PLR (easier to rewrite) or get articles freelanced. You've done the hard work...now repeat it and use some leverage!

The problem with "intense" article marketing is that most people are not passionate writers and therefore simply can't churn out tons of quality articles each and every day. You can burn out quickly writing articles.

The second problem is that today, with all the article marketing competition out there, you really have to know how to write well for getting enough views and click-thrus. Submitting a lot of crap won't get you anywhere today anymore.

That is great. This just shows you that Article marketing is ONE of the best ways to bring in unlimited FREE traffic to ones site.

I personallly have written close to 200 articles and this has brought me in a very good amount of free traffic. I see some online internet marketing gurus who have over 1000 articles and this is the only way that they are making money online. This is the only traffic source for their income and traffic.

I see some people are taking issue with your comment regarding hammering your list. There are some very successfull marketers who hammer their lists. Anyone ever hear of Mike Filsaime

I have tested this.

I set up 2 lists in aweber, and alternate the opt-in form on one of my squeeze pages bewteen the 2 lists.

I've had around 3,000 opt in to each one.

One list I send an email to every day for 15 days, and the emails are very heavy on the promotion. no relationship building, etc. It's nothing but straight promotion for 2 weeks. I would add more to the autoresponder, but I've slacked off some

The second list I did just the opposite with. They get an email once every 3-4 days, they are heavy in content, etc.. You know, the whole 'build a relationship' type thing. I've got enough emails in this autoresponder to go out a few months.

List 'one' has a higher unsub rate, but actually makes me more money. And those who stay on the list are in fact 'high responders' when I send a broadcast.

I'm still testing both lists, as I'm planning a launch and want to see if the results are the same.

What can I say - I'm a testing freak

And my test results sometimes run counter to 'warrior wisdom'.

That is great that you were able to write 300 articles in one month. Why not try writing 104 articles next month on how to get through nursing school.

Use your articles about getting into nursing school to get people to your site. Next, put together 104 articles to use to build your list on how to survive nursing school. Put together 2 years worth of autoresponder messages to go out once a week. Then put an opt in form on your site for your newsletter.

Some ideas to get you started . . .

How to stay focused and learn good study habits
How to balance family and school

I applaud you your application and dedication to the cause. I really couldn't do that myself. As for list building that's probably the way, I'v got myself set up with an autoresponder, but don't know where to go from there. Will have to consult the gurus I guess, because I'm getting a lot more visitors now.

Sree, congrats on your great succes! I'm just about to start some article marketing and your post has been very inspirational! I do have a couple questions though that others have also asked, but I haven't seen you answer them (if you have and I missed your answer, my apologies!).

Are your sales coming from affiliate products that you are promoting on your site? If so, how many different products are you promoting with those 200 articles?

I will say, as far as "hammering your list with emails". I can only speak for myself, but when I get on someone's list and get "hammered" with emails, I am very quick to unsubscribe... not to mention, they have lost me as a customer for good. Again, that is just me, but I just don't have time to read a ton of emails every day....and I don't like to be pushed that hard to buy something....

Yes I agree with Cali16 and I am quick to unsubscribe from someone that sends at least 1 or more e-mails every day. That is just way too much. Now I do understand once in awhile even 2 or 3 days in a row with good interesting info that I need or as long as all emails aren't trying to get into my pocket.

Some of the big, so called, "Guru's", hammer you everyday (sometimes more than one aday) and all they want is to line their pockets with OUR money. I have no problem buying things from time to time, but at least give us some value for it.

Also, you catch more flys with honey than you do with vinegar. So, give your list GOOD and FREE info all the time and from time to time give them a FREE report, ebook, program or whatever, instead of all the time wanting them to buy every thing. In the end you will make way more money this way.

LOL, well ok enough for my rant on this. Continued good luck on your success!!!

Well, about 80% of my business is coming from one website.

I guess my dilemma now is whether to try and squeeze as much as I can out of those other sites that are not performing quite as well, or create new sites. I would like to create new ones to have an increased number of income funnels. Plus, I find linkbuilding to be a never ending battle. No matter how many links I submit, I just can't seem to rank high

This thread has definitely been an inspiration to me! I just finished reading all the way through it. Learned quite a bit.

I'm just getting started with articles. In fact I just signed up for an EzineArticles account 3 days ago.

I have a question that I didn't see covered in the thread. Obviously, EzineArticles is the premier place to post your article. A lot of stuff I've read says to post your article to as many article directories as possible.

1. Is this really necessary?
2. Can you post the same article to more than one directory without being penalized for duplicate content?
3. If I do need to post a unique article to each directory, should I just stick with EzineArticles since Google is so fond of them?

Maybe some of the more experienced members here could share some of their posting techniques with us.

1. Not neccessary, it just adds an extra punch.
2. Yes, no duplicate content penalty for that. The duplicate content pentalty applies ONLY if you submit the same content under the same domain.
3. Yes, EZA first always, not because of duplicate content, but because EZA only allows unique articles.

I had kind of gotten away from the article marketing, and my sales dropped as a result

Today I have submitted a bunch of articles, and had my third $100 day so far.

Keep submitting articles folks. Article traffic is so good that I'm not even that concerned with SEO anymore

Train a writer from Elance.com to do what you do and have them do 80 articles for $10 ($800)...then you'll be doing 280 articles a month...keep doing that and in 2-4 months you won't be writing a word.

Eventually you'll have 1000s of articles each month without writing any of them. At that point, train someone to do the keyword research and manage your article writer's work.

In a year or two you'll be hands-free and able to pursue whatever you wish.

YOU KEEP ON WRITING EVEN MORE ARTICLES

It's Article writing non stop! Make sure, your articles are of GREAT QUALITY.......this is important. With IM, don't be worried about short term income.....focus on long term income and building a list of loyal clients who understand your language so to speak.

Also, with decent money you have, outsource your activities to article writers, then you can free your time to focus on strategising your business.

There are people out there waiting to read your material and get the help they need from you, so go out there and look for them.......virtually of coz

It's 1:30 am, and I just came over to the forum after submitting five articles to EzineArticles and Go Articles. It took me two hours to flesh them out (three were already done) and edit and load those babies up. You know, you hope you've done some good when you get finished! This thread has been immensely encouraging; thanks, all. I have only about 40 articles done this month, but I am gonna keep pluggin' at it, since so many of you have had such good success.
Anybody got an opinion on GoArticles? Am I wasting time there?

GoArticles.com is a good place to submit to. Treat them like Ezine Articles, don't rely on autoposting software. Submit to them solo. They are a PR7 last I checked.

First, congratulations! $855 in your first month is great andit will only get better. The great thing about articles is that they continue to pay off - they don't suddenly stop after the first month. Not every article will hit paydirt but I have articles that are still bringing me traffic and sales two years later.

However, I do have some criticism of one aspect of your method: 10 articles a day??? I know you read it in a WSO, which is supposedly expert advice, but I think quantity like that is absurd. It's not quantity that will bring you success but quality.

I commend you for even being able to produce 200 articles in one month but I don't agree with it. Assuming your writing on a single niche - nursing schools? - I take it for granted that you're repeating a lot of the same concepts over and over again. Not even the most original thinker can produce such a volume of original content.

Aside from the sheer impracticality of it, what kind of quality are you able to produce at that rate? If you produced consistently high quality I really admire you. In fact, you should become a professional writer!

The reality is more likely that you've got a few gems among a lot of mediocrity and/or repetition. Why not cut back the work load and concentrate on the few gems? You could polish them up even better.

There's another reason behind my criticism of this method: quality sells, not quantity. I achieve 4 primary things with my articles:

1. Search engine credit for original content by publishing my articles on my website first, then only on other sites after the page is indexed and I get the credit.

2. Backlinks.

3. Traffic from visitors clicking through to my site from my articles.

4. Preselling. A good article primes the reader and makes them easier to convert at your site.

Quantity may get you the first two benefits but it does not produce sales. Potential customers will not read mediocre articles and click through to your site. The few who do will not be presold.

Quality, on the other hand, produces all 4 benefits and leads directly to sales.

So I question the wisdom of this method but I still admire your accomplishment. Now you can back off a little and focus on high quality work that will bring you even more sales!

My second criticism only involves the advice from others: list building is just one tool among many forms of marketing. It's not the "be all and end all" that will doom you to failure if you don't do it. If you don't feel like it's your thing don't feel forced to do it. Maybe you will sometime down the road. Maybe never.

Just having a list will do nothing for you. You have to market correctly to that list and it's a very specific skill. I've tried it and it didn't work for me. I concentrate in other areas and I'm happy with the results.

Nah, the nursing thing was Dana, not the original threadstarter.. 10 articles a day over multiple niches is quite possible. It's also a good way to cover hundreds of keywords.

But yeah, it's definitely the "work horse" method of getting traffic..

Just having a list will do nothing for you. You have to market correctly to that list and it's a very specific skill. I've tried it and it didn't work for me. I concentrate in other areas and I'm happy with the results.

I agree that 10 a day is too much.

Now, I am submitting just one article per day per niche. That is really all that you need.

I disagree though in regards to submitting similar content. I feel it's important to keep submitting to EZA day after day, for the immediate traffic.

The times lately that I have slacked and not submitted articles, my sales have fallen off.

Wow! 200 articles! Not many can boast that figure, especially when it's just you, well done. I would definitely re-invest and outsource. You could sweep up some nicely written articles for $3 a pop or heckle it down for bulk orders. Keep us posted.

Ye mate earning $800 is great that's just in a month, wow what if you did that for 4-6 months the income would be great, and remember that as the months go on an your articles are picked up every day by new person how much traffic this will bring in for years to come

you may have started out slowly ( you think, but i think it was a great effort) but as you go on your going to get better and better, mate good on you for taking action, defiantly a kick in the pants for me to move my but.

Obviously, quality is important in article marketing (that is, if you're looking to make sales as an affiliate). If you can maintain high quality while cranking out a decent quantity of articles each day, that is the greatest formula for success with article marketing. Add some more promotional techniques to your arsenal and you're all set!

just over $4 per article? you either need to do more keyword research or work on your pre-sell. you could make more than that just selling them at $5 a pop which is the going rate for a 500 word article.

take your $855 and buy more articles. but this time do the keyword research first and do it well. save time by not writing them yourself, do the thinking work yourself, pay people to do the rest.

Plus, one of the niches was water 4 gas, which has pretty much dried up now that gas prices are so low

Way to go!

It is important to remember that not every article will e a home run. Some only bring in singles.

If you could keep this up for 12 months at your current conversion you
would bring in a massive $8000 per month.

Remember the articles will not stop converting.

Now If you put a blog up, with a few unique articles for your niche, and added in three good affiliate products. Not in each post just every 3 or 4th your sales will go through the roof.

Now build a list - yeah thats right 2 lists one of buyers and one for signups.

Now you are cooking!!

Truth is very few guru's make $8000 per month. Most of their list are gasping or air with members optin out. Reason they are been nailed to the floor with sales offers. But very little real content.

So send your list an invite to check your new blog post. They will be more
receptive to your offers.

Buy 200 articles @ $7 = $1,400 costs

$855 + $700 = $1,555 - $1,400 = $155 net at the end of 2 months!

From the 3rd month on is all gravy

  Jim Furr, why worry about paying for ezinearticles? Once you write 35 good articles or less that follow their rules, you are a platinum member and your articles will be approved in a day or two. For your first 35 or less before platinum it takes a week. Is a week too long for you? Not a problem for me. No reason to give up on them. Just write an article and submit. Many big article marketers use ezinearticles with success still and don't bother paying for any of their services.

Now that you have the content, take it and use it in different venues. For example, you can take your articles, modify them slightly, and post them on your blog. You can submit those posts to blog carnivals. You can bullet point them and upload them to free e-book directories. You can read them into a microphone and create a podcast series. You can video yourself talking about the various topics and post them to YouTube. It's all about leverage. Take your content and leverage it!!!

A good way to increase the views of your articles is to write about topics the people want to know and not writing articles based on keywords.

Just go to your EZA category and open any article there, then scroll down to the "Most Viewed" articles. These are the articles the pulled the most traffic over the past 90 days.

Your articles will have a viral effect for several months or years so keep plugging. For$10, you can put a 30 day classified ad on ebay for your niche. I have this successfully for product sales and list building.

Mr Hunter has hit the nail on the head there. If you are building a list, you are building repeat traffic. Every article is working way harder for you. You want to have a list of customers who trust you, get some cool content from you regularly (3-4 times a month) and the chance to buy something valuable and useful from you regularly.

Having honed your writing skills to that peak, writing your series of emails to go out on your autoresponder service to your growing list will be easy!

Transfer your skills to list building, so those articles are bringing you longer-term returns.

And well done on what you've earned. You have the skills and the determination.

I really see where you went wrong. You actually manually submitted these articles. You need to blast the articles at least once a week on a Monday. While doing this, Build your list. then add them to the article submition from your list be it your business list or an email list like Yahoo or Gmail. I hope this helps!

That's truly excellent persistence! I admire that so much. I can only crank out about 3 or 4 in a day before they stop making any coherant sense! 200! What generally works for me is taking the articles I had already written and make some squidoo lenses out of them. I also started with my blogger blogs and rewrote several passages and the first few sentences of the articles as one time blog posts with a small blurb at the end. Just a few mini-ideas. Hope this helps! There have been some excellent ideas so far!

also, start a blog for each niche you're writing articles for and post your articles there.

put some ads for affiliate products, set up a very visible rss feed and put an optin box as well (try to get all of that above the fold)

and if you must, you can slip some adsense in there somewhere as well.

but, yeah i agree with everyone else that told you to build a list.

It doesn't matter what niche it is in and if you don't know what to send to them.

Get them on your list first, then ask them what they want you to send them.

This thread is so full of great information!

It is very inspiring for a newbie like me. Now I have a plan and can take action immedeatly and not try some of everything.

So let me just run a few points by you:

If we choose to link our article to our page, should that be a dynamic landing page or would we create an "authority" blog that we can use to market many different products? The second option seems like a lot of work on top of all those articles.

If we link directly to a product then that product should have a good sales page since we only have our article to make the sale?

If we create an opt in list AND a blog isn't there a risk we might lose the "buying temperature"?

If we can write good articles, why not outsource the backlinking instead? That way we can concentrate on writing top content. I know for me who is not an expert on seo, building links is way more work than writing an article?

Have you tried creating a few backlinks for each article so they will get some page rank of there own over time and keep bring in the money month after month.

Writing article after article can be very tedious so I write less articles but then get some backlinks for them. Use social bookmarking sites tumblr and the like.

Maybe I missed it but one thing I didn't see mentioned.

It's not simply the article itself generating traffic.
By submitting the articles to as many directories as possible you build backlinks which improve page rank.
So, speaking to the longevity of an article... in that regard it's infinite.
To say nothing of the article being picked up by other sites and going viral.

I've got one site in particular that 5 or 6 articles submitted to the top 3 directories have generated over 300 backlinks, and a top 3 spot on Google for my main keyword.

Just food for thought.

Do what you can to get customers and/or prospects to sign-up for an opt-in email list so that you can get information and offers to them without them having to visit your web site again.

For prospects, this usually means offering something for free as an incentive to sign-up.

I am reading recently - and not just recently - success stories related to article marketing. So far I have been promoting my business using other tools, but I am thinking seriously about starting to use article marketing too, as they seem to be highly efficient. Beside article marketing is long term advertising, as your article is submitted, it stays there almost forever, so it is a potential continuous source of traffic to your site.

Any idea or tips from where to start the article marketing campaign???
