Reached my Goal of $500/day - Writing It Down Works

I'm sure you've read at least once during your online travels that "writing down your goals" embeds them into your mind and can subconsciously lead you to take actions that will lead to the achievement of said goal.

For a long time I waved that off as hogwash. Rubbish I thought.

Then one day a few months back I decided what the heck, and I made a quick desktop background that had some desirable images (mostly travel locations that I want to visit) and a big banner in the middle saying "$500/day by December 31 2009".

Well today I have reached that goal. At 2pm my profits for today are $505 and the day isn't over yet.

It wasn't achieved over night. My income has been increasing day by day. Every $50 increase was a new milestone.

I'm not the type to believe that my desktop background has led to my success but I tell you, seeing that same old boring desktop every time I boot up my computer made me see $500 as not a lot of money and something I would achieve.

I probably won't earn $500 everyday but anything over $300 is pretty darn good in my book.

I'll be changing my background now to $800/day by December 31 2009 - I'll need to add a few more revenue streams to consistently see that sort of money coming in.

So write down your financial goal, put it somewhere visible and glance at it everyday. And don't be afraid to aim high.. I can live on $100/day but why settle for that when there's so many opportunities out there in the wonderful world of affiliate marketing.

Just a bit of motivation for the people struggling as I've read a few "down and out" threads here lately. Don't give up!

Writing it down definitely works. I write down all my goals and take action on them everyday. My income goal is to achieve a five figure monthly income. I will get to this point by staying focused. Congratulations on your success.

    Hi Rebecca,

No, none of it is through writing for other people. That brings me a few extra dollars every month, but I prefer to spend my time creating passive income.

It is 100% affiliate marketing and CPA offers.

$100/day is hardly what I would call noob Joe118 - in fact its the hardest thing to achieve.
After that its all about replicating and leveraging what you're already doing.

Thanks. Very wise words. I am emotionally attached to my niche and as a result trying to go with that one niche to 200, instead of diversifying and trying new niches.

        See, you've helped me already

THAT is a real insight - I found that I was addicted to the first niche I chose and just couldn't move on. When I did, finally, the leverage clicked in.

Congrats Rebecca! Isn't it a wonderful feeling??

As a Life Coach who has to practice what I preach (!) I also know first hand that writing it down (or putting it on your desktop!) makes all the difference.

My goal was to generate enough income so I could work from home (I currently work in a full time job).

I wrote it down, stuck it EVERYWHERE, would think about it throughout the day and how great it would feel, etc etc. Tomorrow at 4pm I will realise my dream of working for myself because tomorrow's my last day at work!

        Fabulous news, Rebecca!

Pretty exciting to reach a goal and then set a new one, eh?

Too many times, you hear of people who set a goal, reach it, and then idle.

Or they don't reach that goal at all.

And it's a lot of fun to update that goal poster, as well. Plus it's a kick to make a goal poster and then look at the great items you're working toward (along with the new dollar amount, of course).

Rebecca - I do the EXACT same thing. I have the desktop background with photos of the home, the car, the body, the family - everything I want exactly as I want it in my life... along with the goal of $15k/month by December 31st, 2009. Beyond that, I meditate on it every night for at least 15 minutes. I look at photos and imagine that these things actually exist in my life right now.

Its starting to work. My focus is different now. Can't say that I've seen an increase in my income since the beginning of the year, but it will happen.

Congrats on reaching your goal - keep going and feel good about it.

    A few suggested books:
    Think and Grow Rich
    The Secret

Both deal with the phenomenon of the "law of attraction".

This is an incredible thing to see Rebecca (and more proof) as I'm now currently on my 6th? reading all the way through of 'Think and Grow Rich' and now I decided I would do EVERYTHING he said through the book: write it down, read it daily, visualize it etc.

I'm finding is it's not the 'tactics' themselves but the mindset that accompanies it. All the visualizations are a great way to "believe it" and it's awesome to see someone actually who has made it come to life.

$500+ in a single day is a fantasy for most.. even some drug dealers and pimps LOL

I have always known that writing your goals down, meditating on it daily and focusing on them will bring you closer to accomplishing them. Posting photos of your desires also helps.

I try to do them but I am not always focused on the goals all the time so I have not seen my goals materialising but something just happened to me yesterday.

My PC has been misbehaving so I prayed to God to give me a laptop and some money on top to upgrade my internet connection. I got a brand new laptop yesterday and the money I needed for the internet upgrade. I am typing this from the new laptop with the enhanced internet connection working.

Believe in God and he will give you the desires of your heart, says the Bible. It works.

        Hi and Congratulations Rebecca!

Yes, as I continue to succeed in my online ventures, I find that I need to systemize,(is that a word?,lol) everything, so I can repeat success again and again.

That involves a lot of writing because if you don't write it down, with so many things going on around you, you have to try to remember how everything works, again. But, of course once you put your techniques into practice, it's becomes a good habit.

I had sticky notes all over the computer, and index cards everywhere. Now, if i want to remember something i just open a text editor type it in there, save and i'm done. It's easier this way, plus I can improve my typing skills.
        Go figure!

        Best of continued success,

Writing things down works, especially if you put a date next to your goal as that adds urgency and a deadline.

I also use a desktop image of something related to my goal. Custom screensavers work also. It may seem silly to some but it helps me work toward that goal.

      Hey Folks,

The big secret behind the success of this
      simple idea is...

When Rebbecca wrote it down and viewed it everyday, she
became very comfortable and accustomed to that figure.

So what subconsciously happens is that she no longer sees
      $500 as a big deal...

And because we are preprogrammed to believe that achieving
big goals means busting our butts, that when we break the goals
down and see them as smaller than we first thought, it becomes
      easier subconsciously.

      It's really weird...

The more money you make online, the more "used" to it you get,
until cranking out sites, products and new businesses that make
daily sales, seems like a gentle walk in the park a lot of the time.

      Well done Rebbecca!

        simple idea is...

The power of Subconscious ....Amazing but so real and TRUE...

I spend about 2 hours a day writing articles for my sites/blogs and article submission. So no, haven't outsourced at all. No need to as I enjoy writing and am very productive at it. I also spend about 5 hours per week building links (web 2.0, blog comments etc).

Not a big time expenditure for me. I could and will scale up eventually by outsourcing but for now I'm happy to keep the profits and work a few hours per day.

That's great that you set a goal and then met it.

I've never thought about putting my income goal
right in front of me...but I'm gonna do it. It'll
get into my subconscious that way.

    Thanks for the tip!

I have thanked you for this Rebecca because you are an example to all.

Writing down your goals and objectives is indeed a very powerful way to success.

As I have said in post after post here, success is 90% Mind and 10% application.

When writing anything down always do so in the present tense as if true now.

And no limited thinking. Most people do not believe themselves that they can achieve their wishes, yet I assure you - keeping in mind this is my niche in which I am followed globally - that there are no limits except those imposed by the Ego.

Anyone can make a huge amount of money in IM, but if the Mind is not right failure is inevitable.

Congrats Rebecca - you can and will make as much as you desire from now on.

I agree that writing down your goals is extremely beneficial. I use to think all the affirmations and positvie thinking were hog-wash as well, but having goals put up at places you visit daily serves as a constant remainder (at the least) of the things you need to be doing everyday.

What I like to do is have a day by day action plan and then a goal.

So for example my day by day action plan may be something like

    1) Submit 50 articles for my site
    2) Sign up with link directories
    3) Send out e-mails

    etc

but my monthly goal would be to earn $5000/month (just another example)

Point is - you need action plans (actions YOU need to take, not the results you want) and the GOAL should be the desired results you want from your daily actions.

Otherwise, sure, you can go around and say you want to earn $X amount of money by the end of the month, but your not actually taking steps to get you any closer to your goals.

Day by Day Plan + Consistent Action = Reaching Your Goals

Very motivational..I've had a few $500 a day sites, but none of them sustained it and most went down to about 100-300 per day, but that as you say is enough to live on.

May I ask were these adsense sites or mainly affiliate based income sites?

    Blackmediaprop08 - it's all affiliate/CPA income. 100% profit as I don't use paid advertising at the moment.

Saidar - I've been working full time online for about 3 years now. Over that time I've done various things. I've earned a lot more than $500 per day at times, but that was mainly providing services for people so it was not sustained or passive income.

It wasn't until this year that I really put my foot down and started focusing on my niche sites and thus started increasing my income from $50-$100 per day up to the level I'm at now. I slowly scaled back the services I provide and started using that time to work for myself. I now work 90% for myself and about 10% for clients - last year and previously that statistic was reversed.

So with that in mind I'd say that all this has taken me less than 6 months of pure action and determination. Now if I had of actually done all this 3 years ago, who knows where I'd be now - but I've learned alot along the way

Nice, passive income is what makes the internet such a wonderful place to invest your time in. But you have to remember the skills you learned in the 2.5 years made it possible for you to build that passive income in 6 months. It took me 4 months to learn all the basic stuff, so I'm doing a bit better now but I'm still struggling! I just wish I discovered this forum 6 months ago when I started...

Good luck with your future projects... Maybe you can write a small ebook to help us beginners out and sell it :p

I think this is a very good point. Although I only have a few posts on here, I've been learning for months and it is true that you need to have some knowledge in internet marketing to build upon and that takes time.

Having written goals is great for motivation as well as organization. At my day job if I write a list, it makes things so much easier not only to prioritize but to feel that sense of accomplishment when things are complete!

This is not meant to be a thread about strategies or anything, but here is a bit of inspiration for the people who think that article marketing is all too hard, or a waste of time - it certainly isn't.

Keep in mind this article has only been live for about 1 month. It has been positioned on Google page 1 for a variety of key phrases ever since it went live. So don't believe the hype about rankings dropping quickly, because they don't always. Hit a good keyword and it's gold.

This particular article had 2000 views in the first 4 days of going live. I got lucky with the keyword, but from there I simply leveraged it by writing similar articles both on my own blogs and to article directories.

Case in point: you never know just when things are going to boom so don't give up.

      Great job, Rebecca!

You are a living example that article marketing works! Finding good keywords is truly half the battle, but once you find them, it's all downhill from there!

Many people think that the only way to have $500 days is through PPC. Well, they should look to you as their inspiration. If they put in the effort and stay focused, they will see the rewards. Again, all they need to invest is their time!

To me, that's seems like a huge accomplishment in and of itself.

      Thanks!
I just create a few web 2.0 properties, post some content on them and link those to my ezinearticles and my blog.
      Also do some social bookmarking.

      Sure, it's easy.

If you have photoshop or a similar program just open a new blank document the size of your desktop, in my case its 1440x900 pixels.

Then just paste images on there until it takes up the entire space. You might need to crop them a bit to fit. You can also write on them with the text tool.

I'm no graphic designer but if you want me to make a simple background for you just PM me.

Congratulations Rebecca. This thread is very inspirational to many people reading it. Considering I work full time at internet marketing, SEO and web development, I could be a lot more productive with my time some days than what I actually am.

After reading your post yesterday it has made me realise that I am leaving a lot of money on the table by spending too much time on less important tasks, and not always enough time on the 'more important' tasks. Hopefully this will change now.

    Onwards and upwards!

$500/day with 20/hrs a week of work...That sounds nice. I need to concentrate more on my on-line stuff than my off-line property management business. If I learned to be as efficient as you I would make about $1100/day on-line with the hours I put in at my day job.

But I'm curious (I didn't read your whole thread), how do you do it? Without giving away your secrets of course.

But yes, good luck on reaching 1k a day. That would certainly be something .

I second everyone's thanks on this thread.

Better yet, I had an idea for creating something similar using TickerFactory.com. I wanted to create two tickers: one for the $500/day goal and one for my subscriber goal (listbuilding). (The money's in the list!)

So off I went to create the ticker and put it on my desktop. Created it, saved the HTML code, right-clicked and selected "Set Background As." Aaack! It set the entire image as my destop background and believe me, it did NOT look pretty. (It was all twisted and distorted and the background was black!)

I've just changed it back to what it was. Anybody know how I can put the little ticker image on my desktop WITHOUT setting it as my entire background???? I like my current background image and just want to put the little tickers on my desktop as icons, not the entire background!

I LOVE this idea (thanks Rebecca!) if I can just get it to do what I want!

    Thanks,
    Michelle

I have posted my immediate gaol of $300 on my desktop when I can see it, and when I get discouraged I look at it.

I have also broken down that figure into several incremental steps which are doable, not sure of the time limit but they are doable, and I read it every night before going to bed and every morning first thing. Thne I set gaols for myself that day and slowly chip away at what I have to do.

        Congrats, Rebecca!!

Well, not quite 500 a day but I also achieved my first milestone last month. I broke the €100 barrier which was a 5-fold increase for me from the previous month. It looks like August is going to have some great growth too. I think for only being at this for 6 months, just with one affiliate website is pretty good. Focus is key!

I attribute this success mainly to two things:
        1. My desktop wallpaper showing the universe with a green 8 on it. (8 is the number for financial wealth and security) I also pasted a screenshot of my ebay affiliate dashboard on it with my desired goal amount. €1329.02 by the end of this year.
        2. Angela's and PJ's backlink packets. Seriously, everyone here should utilize them (wisely) and see their google rankings and income increase.

    Hi Rebecca, congratulations!
Having a clear goal or set of goals is certainly important but without a stepped and monitored action plan to back it up is basically wishful thinking or positive thinking,- which of and by themselves are pretty redundant and ultimately destined to flop. I'm sure that there are many (if not most) warriors on here that at some stage or other have had a "$100 a day" sticky note attached to their PC screen. The thing is to be able to create a plan and everyday formula such as "do this + do that+ followed by this" otherwise one hour slips into another and spills over from day to day with nothing getting done. So have a written goal is important for sure,.. but without a written plan to back it up you may as well be dreaming!
    Again,.. congrats on your achievement!

Normally I "hate" posting to a thread only to see it is 2 or 3
months old. HOWEVER, I am glad this post got resurrected.

I really like the idea of goal wallpaper, so I created my own.
    1. I got a Hubble Telescope picture.
    2. I lightened it so it
    doesn't overwhelm my desktop icons.
    3. I picked a dollar amount
and three currently out of reach things to shoot for.
    4. Next I will write the plan I need to implement to achieve
these goals. I know the process, but it is not WRITTEN down.

I have known about writing goals for a long time. I have done it
many times, but always let it slip after a while. What better
way to keep it in mind than to create wallpaper that is a daily
    reminder.

Today I will implement one part of the plan I already have in my
    head.

I read this thread when it got resurrected. But it wasn't until today that i had a phrase go round in my head. I was coming up with a affirmation to get myself going.

I thought bingo i'll make it into a wallpaper background.
I kept it simple. It's a short term wallpaper. The most important part is the cash. All the other items are secondary in importance. I have got to hit around 8k in 3weeks.
I have a list of things to include in the next 'vision board'.

    I've resized it.

    Here's mine-

(small car is a hyundai getz, larger is a prius. The bottom 3 are related to travel.)

Taking action is important to see any results.

It's true, even that first $50 is a super huge accomplishment. So many people try online marketing and DON'T MAKE A DIME. If you are already making money, even if it doesn't seem like a lot, trust me that's huge.

You are so far ahead of most beginners out there. Keep pushing forward!

OK, This has to be the best thread I have read in a loooong time, simply because it says that it can be done if you believe it can, however you must do what is necessary to get it done. Thank you so much for posting this and congrats.
