I just hit the spam button on that release.

It seems when you start doing the right things, in this business, you end up having to deal with crap like this. It is unfortunate but reality. Luckily, we don't have to let these people bully us around.

I hope the person, who did the press release, is in the states so Paul can sue his ass. People have been sued for far less and won.

Edited: I always knew Bev had to be watched. Dang that choco-holic blog queen.

Bev's the one who told me about it.

Aside from the fact that it's completely lame, this makes an interesting example. The big takeaway: Never take this sort of thing personally. If you do, you give the person who did it control of your reactions.

Do you really want to put a child in charge of your decisions? If not, and someone points something like this at you, stop and think. What do they want? What does this really mean? What is the most productive response?

Hint: Getting angry is NOT the right answer in every case.

Your calm reaction and analysis is quite admirable. That your many friends, acquaintances and people who've read your newsletters and your posts here want to do the miscreant bodily harm only speaks to how much we care about you and your reputation. I guess that's reasonable. All I can say is, if I owned a press release distribution site, and allowed press releases to go on there without anyone editing them first - I would make damned sure that there was a way for people to reach me or a site representative 24/7 in case of a situation like this.

Although seriously, it should have read that he scammed them out of $597,997 to be more believable, and some photoshopped clickbank pictures would have helped.

I left a comment and reported it as spam too. I mention this only to point out that comments do not appear immediately - obviously there is some moderation going on there. Why it is still up there then, when so many have reported it, is a mystery to me. I think it was meant as a joke.

I think that is highly unlikely.

A joke is a joke in the circle(s) that accepts it as such. Putting that sort of post where everyone in the world with an Internet connection can read it is just spiteful and malicious. Probably the poster has a grudge against the people named in the post.

This seems personal.

Just my thoughts.

Julian is the gentleman from the UK who got booted for making death threats to me, and several other people, on this board recently. He regularly creates new usernames and comes in to create trouble. And he just as regularly gets booted. He's had rather unpleasant things to say about Bev and I, among others.

Brand new member account. Combined with the unusual mix of, "I think it's a joke," "Got what he deserved," and "Reported it as spam," that does make for an interesting coincidence, yes?

Yeah but jokes shouldn't have such a damaging effect on the jokee, I don't think this was one bit of a joke.

How many times have we seen this in IM courses:

you must raise $10 for a domain, and $40 for a years hosting. If you do not have it, then why not write some articles? You can charge $10 per article if you are good at writing, and more for design

I seriously can not BELIEVE it is still online. You know, not all news sites are indexed by Google News...and my understanding, from people who own press release distribution sites, is that it is VERY important to Google that those sites have accountability - a way to reach the site owners, and a way to reach the person who wrote and published a press release. This seems like the kind of thing that could - and should - get a site removed from Google News indexed.

If red172 is Julian, it makes perfect sense that he'd jump in. If he's not, it doesn't make much sense at all. The only other relatively new people members who've commented and with whom I haven't had previous conversations made comments that were sensible. One said he'd hit the spam button on the "release," one remarked on J-Mo's comment, and another said that he found this sort of thing interesting.

None of these things are conclusive but, when viewed together, they do seem interesting.

What a lot of you don't realise is something which was said in the press release has given away who the person is.

I reported it as spam almost immediately and nothing was done about it.

The person who has registered the site, hasn't given a full address for where they are. It is BJ = Beijing 100083 is a district in Beijing, Haidian which is full of universities.

More precisely, it fails to work in some predictable ways. There is a pattern to his misuse of apostrophes. One that is extremely unlikely to occur in two people from the same part of the world on the same discussion board.

One of the reasons I was in demand as a copywriter, back in the day, was my ability to emulate someone's writing style so precisely that you couldn't tell which of two samples were from me and which from the client. That required learning to look very closely at the signature patterns in word choices, sentence structure and oddities of grammar.

We all have patterns, folks.

And no, I haven't just given away a tool for spotting Jillian. He's got other patterns, all just as likely unconscious as the bad habits in his punctuation.

The probability that you are not the same person who was booted from here recently for the stuff I mentioned earlier is, shall we say, quite small. More than enough evidence exists to justify the conclusiuon, considering the small impact of an error in that assessment.

The probability that you wrote that "release" is only slightly smaller.

I am quite comfortable with that conclusion as a working premise, yes.

One need only remember the different levels of evidence standards, and why they exist, in order to understand the position. Let's look at the US standards for this example.

In a criminal trial, the standard is "beyond a reasonable doubt." This is strict, and justly so, as the person being judged faces loss of freedom or worse. In a civil trial, the standard is "a preponderance of evidence." This is because the damage resulting from error is smaller.

In this case, what's at stake? A day old member account, with no associated name, no personal reputation, no income... In fact, no damage worth measuring.

If Julian got booted from his last ISP for his behavior, as I suspect happened, he'll be likely to avoid anything getting him thrown off the new one. If he did not, he should, one hopes, wish to avoid being nasty enough to get another talking to from them.

The goal is for Julian to leave. The cost of him remaining is higher than the average benefit to the group of a single new member. If you doubt that, look at the number of members and the number of people who regularly contribute in a useful and positive fashion.

That's the calculus.

Disappeared just as I posted this rebuttal as a comment :-)

It is unfortunate that free-press-release.com allows such defaming and libelous false and unverified claims to be posted on its site in the form of a fake press release.

Paul Myers is honest and the person using this site to spew their libelous venom is out to do a smear job.

I am sure that once free-press-release.com realizes they are publishing libelous claims they will remove this fake press release.

Focusing on the wrongdoer for a moment (as opposed to our innocent victim), but I guess James Tam (or whoever) must be having a chuckle at all this...

...until it dawns on him that he got all this attention for doing so little, and yet, won't be able to capitalize on it one iota.

No money.

No goodwill (far from it).

Nothing but the knowledge that he wasted more of his precious time and energy on doing something entirely unproductive... in fact, counterproductive, to building his Internet marketing business.

@Bev I don't know, unless maybe the 'contact us' link may have "stood out" a bit
from the spam reports. I imagine they may get many more spam reports through their
system than people contacting them directly.

Here's the message in its entirety as sent:

Dear sirs,

This press release here is blatantly false:

Trust us - Paul Myers is NOT a scammer in any way, shape, or form.

The so-called "press release" was made by someone who has a twisted fascination with Paul and won't leave him alone. The post even had quotes from 2 members of this forum, one being the owner of the forum ... and were completely untrue.

Read through this entire thread - you will really understand what's going on.

He may think I'm also that Paul Myers, which would explain the "pyramid scheme" comment. (That guy is involved in a nutritionals MLM.) The release was definitely directed at me, though. He mentioned that I live in Erie, my association with the Warrior Forum, and also used Bev and Allen's names.

And no, there's not much chance that anyone who's met me will think that picture is me. No grey beard, and I've got probably 20 years on the guy. Not mentioning the disgraceful lack of hattedness.

In the end....the Zen Master Big Paulie.... should be flattered.

Because low life bottom feeders seldom target....the "average Joe".

They go after the Big Fish.

Paul is a Big Tuna around this joint for sure.....and that means he's a bigger target for the nut cases out there...who stuff pickles for 7 bucks an hour, date their cousin, and live with their momma. They hate others...because they hate themselves. Capiche!

1. Truth is.....hatchet jobs like the one described in this thread....are based on jelousy...and are designed to target is someone who has a big time reputation.

Those in life who can't create a reputation of their own....will often look to destroy the reputation of a third party.... who represents all they are not.

It's called Junior High School shit...years after graduation....and it's alive and well in this world today. And it's rather sad. People who decide to rip apart another in order to cast a quick fix mirage over their own self loathing.

2. A big time reputation....that's earned the old fashioned way...will always trump a low life smear campaign...in the long run. Often...the target ends up stronger because of it...and in this case...so does Paul....who I suspect is still standing tall.

3. It never ceases to amaze me that there are people out there...so void of talent and originality and hope....that they cope with their own shortcomings....via attacking others who they desperately wish they could trade places with.
