My general health website got HACKED!

Long story short ...... my general health website got hacked ....real bummer I blame myself because I hadn't properly secured the website, meaning I was using a weak password to secure the wordpress website.

I already contacted my host (hostgator) to ask them what they can do for me, but I already have my mind made up to start all over again and build another starting from scratch. They havent replied back to me as yet, and frankly I won't let this push me wayyyyy back!

Let's just say i learnt the hard way from a silly silly mistake of not securing my website properly. I'm a fighter and i wont let one downed website make my year a bad year. I already have other websites doing their thing for me, but this one in general I was trying to build into an authority site but .... pop goes the weasel!

P.S. Just make sure your websites are secured people...don't be foolish like i was with that one website!

Hey, truly sorry to hear that.

You're right though, we lock our houses tight, and our sites are what pay for our houses. Yep, security is a must.

Thanks for sharing and maybe you will help someone else not get hacked because they read your story.

    Thank you, Patrick

    Why would you start over?

I'm sure the content is stored in a database and you can easily recover the website or content at the very least. Even if your database got wiped, which is unlikely, I am sure there are weekly and monthly backups available.

Perhaps I can help... how exactly did your website get hacked?

Honestly, I'm not exactly sure how it got hacked ... I am here waiting for a response from HOSTGATOR for them to tell me how they can assist me. I will take it from there.

I'm waiting patiently (been a day) for hostgator to get back to me, then I decide what I will do. Hopefully all isn't lost. This is the first time it's happening to me, so I will take it in strides and wait for whatever help I can get first of all.

When I say how was it "hacked" I mean what are the damages.

Are the website files gone? Is the website defaced? What is the extent of the damage?

You probably got hit with a script that scans the web for outdated and vulnerable systems and caused only minor problems.

Grab what you can from Google's caches; search for "+site:humanbodyhealthguide.com" and then click on "cached" by each link. But it would appear that they haven't actually destroyed your database yet. e.g., If you go here, despite all of the nonsense that they've added, you'll note that most (all?) of the article is actually still intact.

Hopefully there are backups of the database, but even if there aren't, grab one now so you don't lose all of your content.

Have you take back up of your site? Because you will lose your content if your hosting provider fail to restore your site.

Firstly, sorry to hear about your site mate. We all work hard and this is a bummer.

Do you have content stored offline? Download the Google cached pages so that you don't have to start completely from scratch.

It's really lousy that someone would do this to you and I hope they get caught. Though not really sure what if any penalties for such a thing. Anyway, I'm glad you are not letting this crush your spirits and can recover. If you can start another site, then do so and make it bigger and better than before. Best of luck.

I see your site was WordPress, so you have a SQL database for content on this site, but it too may be compromised. You might want to immediately save a backup copy of the database to your computer anyway.

The recommendation above to retrieve some of your content by using the Google search operator site: has a time limit. The data cached will be replaced by later page captures. Of the 73 results at site:humanbodyhealthguide.com , many do give the hacked message but some articles are still cached. Next to each URL in the SERPs is the pull-down arrow, which allows you to select Cached.

[Edit] I just noticed that if I right-click and select View Source on your pages with the hacked message, your articles are still there.
