Sorry that you were laid off - that stinks

To answer your question, you actually answered it yourself.

Take your skills and get paid to do them for others.

You've been making websites for years? Lots of people couldn't be bothered to, or don't know how, and would be happy to pay you to do it for them.

    Good luck!

        Wrong way of thinking.

Be unique. Find a hole and fill it.

Don't give up. You are closer than you think.

        Go for it.

      Exactly.

And you can expand on that thought.

What about creating websites and sell them as ready to go website. There are a lot of people in need for review site, landing pages, thank-you page, etc.

At this point, I believe that your own desperation is killing your creativity.

      Best the luck.

PS. I need a new "thank you" page to one of my funnels.

Sorry to hear about your job mate! I know it could be hard but the flip side is that maybe it can provide you the time and motivation to do something successfully online.

If you skill is to build website, then you could possible develop a website that addresses a particular need. Maybe automated content website, maybe a website with already integrated plugins. Offer your services right here on WF. There are so many possibilities. Just gather yourself and focus on one thing and take it to the finish line.

I can tell you it's not promoting porn in your sig. on an Internet marketing forum.

"Can you say desperate? Sure you can!"

Seriously though, if you've been trying that long and it's getting harder...

      Funny, I can't stop laughing.

But seriously, Soloadsforyou, a lot of competition is good. That means there probably is a good market there. Use your skills and create a business around those skills.

Sorry for your loss of a job. Lot's of people have been there. Make a decision of what you are going to do, then make a plan of how to get where you're going, then work that plan daily.

This may just be the opportunity you've been looking for. Time to get a business going for yourself.

One things for sure, things will change. Either for the better or worse. You choose how they will change.

Before you put your head into this big world that is internet marketing, take a moment to step aside and take care of your real life finances. Get your house in order financially and file for unemployment. Check your savings and figure out how much money you will need over the next months to support yourself and your family. Internet marketing is not an over night success, not even when you are promoting your own services. Even if you get one or two clients here and there, it's not likely to pay all your bills. And, you could spend months just learning how to solicit business and by then become homeless. So, before you think of this as the way to go, start job hunting in the real world where there are real jobs with real pay, not possible sales from potential customers. All this world can seem glamorous and last hope for many who have no other options. Just use caution and keep your head about you. This is just one thing you can be doing, not the only thing.

Start by creating a resume for yourself of past online and offline experiences. This should include your actual skills (including website building, any HTML coding skills, etc) as well as references to places where your work is published. Include actual work/job samples. You can use this resume if you are selling your freelance skills online. That's one place to start.

Have you tried posting your services at Warriors for Hire section? Your services are generally in good demand, so you can try your luck there and eventually build your own business.

If you need cash to tie yourself over this period, you can find gigs and paid jobs at ODesk or Freelancer. Given your skills, there are many gigs that you can accomplish there.

    Sorry about the layoff.

Why don't you start offering your webdeign services, solo ads and email marketing skills in this very forum in the WSO section? It's not hard to get clients if you know your job well and your pricing is reasonable.

I think "I do web development" is just not going to cut it. What EXACTLY are you skilled at? Programming language? Did you develop middleware for SaaS? Or are you just like all of the other business card builders....ahemm... I mean "web developers"?

How are you going to compete against Wix? <--maybe if you figure this one out you will land some quick cash.

My suggestion? Well, if you were involved in ANY actual web development (you know, writing/organizing html, .NET, php, etc...) then I'd suggest you go to the source to find work. What I mean by "source" is the data source for websites and SaaS solutions: the database.

Because controlling the flow of data/information, NOT the display of it, is where you will always find work and have the highest value to offer the marketplace -- either as an employee, self-employed consultant, or as a business entity.

Go to msdn and spend 1 month to fill your brain with 10 concepts related to Microsoft SQL Server. Focus on SQL/T-SQL development and basic database design. If you have any ability to retain knowledge, you will then be able to market yourself and replace or increase your previous income.

So you must know how to make solo ads work. Why not sell or buy them and make money from that?

You will have to take your online business seriously, and also take your quest for finding another job seriously. For the meantime, find a local grocery job or something. Something to just bring you money to pay bills. When you get off work everyday, go home and work on your business. Don't worry about competition. Make it a point to be the best internet marketing the world has ever seen. You should throw lots of paid advertising into the mix also.

Sorry about the job too cuz.... i know how it feels.

Is this going to give enough income right now to support this person? Chances are, he has a mortgage and expenses to pay. The time to think about building an internet marketing empire/email list or a Fiverr career is when you have a solid paying job to back you up, not just after you have been laid off. The best option now for money making is in the real world not here. Just look around at the people who are struggling and the ones who have succeeded and how long it took them to get to 'the top'.

Focus on the good thing. When you have gratitude in your heart for the good more good will come. As for your living situation, maybe you can stay with a friend until you get back on your feet?

I don't know what your new job entails or how many hours you will be working but perhaps you can take on some extra jobs here to increase your income. It sounds like you have some skills that are definitely in need here. Keep going. You will get there.

I'm sorry about your job. I suggest using all your skills, since you can build websites, you can start developing and selling or offering your web development services, whatever skills you have, use them and focus on what works.

I'm sorry about your job and your situation, trust me I know how it is.

This is where you'll be tested mentally, you have to look at how you can do it, not how you can't. Most success stories came from what once were severely difficult situations

You have to focus on the opportunity, not the difficulties. When your back is to the wall, you have to be relentless.

You have to set goals and approach them with urgency, not desperation - there's a difference.

Having said that, I recommend you use your skills to your advantage. Advertise yourself, put yourself out there and offer your skills to the ones who can use it.

Build websites and flip them, or sell them, or offer to build them for people - there's places in this forum where you can go do that. You don't have to go far.

Secondly, I would type up a short report on something you know how to do and promote it as a WSO, build a buyers list, monetize it.

    There's plenty of avenues here.

Often the problem isn't the situation - matter fact, it rarely is - often the problem is the perception.

    Cheers!
    -Pedro

How about offering a course for people interested in web design/whatever you're good at? You can make a meetup group and charge for your time, or make some videos you can sell for access online.
