How to get a freelancers job site going?

I've just setup a freelancers job site, the problem is that there's no jobs (and therefore no freelancers) on the site.

What would be the best course of action to get employers to sign up and post jobs? what channels of advertising might work best?

I know you can buy email lists, but is it possible to hire someone to email out to lots of companies about the site? (not in a spammy way).

Thanks for any advice.

Are there marketers you can employ on here to do that kind of thing?

You need to invest in SEEDING your site first. No one wants to eat in an empty restaurant. Do you understand what I am saying?

This the perfect way to answer your question. You need to invest more time first to develop the website and then you can start promoting.

Your idea won't fly -- it defies business and economics.. not to include market saturation. I would go a new direction all together.

I agree if it's a general freelancer site, that can't be done anymore unless you have millions of dollars.

What i would do if i were you would target a very specific niche, something you know about yourself preferably and target the people who are specialists in that area.

That's the only way i can see this work. Just compare it with a dating site, no way you can start a profitable general dating site anymore, but target a niche and it might work...

Ok but even if you do that you have the same seeding problem, it's chicken and egg, how do I get jobs on there in the first place?

Is there a reason you set it up in the first place? I would have thought you would consider these questions before putting in that effort because it is certainly saturated.

Every online market where there's money to be made is saturated , but marketing experts find ways to make what they do stand out from the crowd, and to get websites off the ground in the first place, sometimes without big budgets.

You could start by letting us know the url of your site. Put it in your forum signature for everyone to see and maybe they will signup/list jobs.

I think you should hold off on the launch and focus on running a pre-launch and build an email list of prospects highlighting to them the features of your upcoming site. This way you can launch it to a massive amount people who already showed some type of interest and hopefully gain some momentum.

My best piece of advice once everything is setup is to get in touch with big marketers.

IWriter really wasn't all that popular until Mark Ling from Affilorama started talking about it. So get started and get in touch with all the people you know who talks a lot about that specific freelance industry, and you'll get a ton of people using the site.

I would target unemployed people on Facebook with qualifications in freelancing niches using their very specific demographics.

You know http://freelancer.com owns this website.

You can however sign-up as an affiliate with them and pull in feeds and post them to twitter via software. This is a great model.
