So I have two domains for the same project, a local community site. I have cityname plus the number 1 and cityname plus the word one. My logo and branding will be based on whichever I choose. Will people gravitate more toward the number, or the number spelled out, when going to the site? Which is better for a name of a brand? Any other input? I have an idea for a cool logo based on the number 1 that would be simple and identifiable, but if people are more apt to spell it out, maybe I should go in a different direction.

Thanks for any input.
Mike

Well as an example, 7-Eleven is more appealing to me than Seven Eleven, so based on this observation I would go with the number rather than the actual spelled out version of the number.

Lol, your example has both numbers as numerals and words, which doesn't help so much. So far I've got one vote for spelling it out, 1 for the actual number, and one for both.

I'd go with the word rather than the number. Unless the word ended with the same letter as the number begins with.

but you've provided zero general information of what the product or service is.

Like I said, it is a local community site. To be more specific, a community based marketing co-op. One signifies togetherness and community in this sense.

Mike, whatever you decide, there'll be some who'd gravitate to the other. If you have an idea for a brandable logo design that would help your marketing, go with that; it's as good a reason as any.

Obviously, re-direct the other URL to your chosen domain.

yeah, I would only consider using the number 1 if it were a short name, or a site with statistics up the ass.

I agree, the word fits better as a community.

and think if a friend had to tell another the website. If it were 1 instead of one, they'd probably have to explain it. : ex: check out mycity1.com for info on the next meetup... thats the number one not the word one

Personally I would avoid anything that needs to be explained/spelt out when telling someone the web address. Why do you need the potential confusion.

Just from my experience 1 is easier for most folks especially if they are using a mobile device and will tend to gravitate to it. As Al indicated earlier you could always have both and 301 one to the other.

I am leaving more toward the written word being that it is community based. Additionally, #1 can have issues because they can easily be confused with the letter l or capital I in some cases/fonts, etc. Plus in websites, generally, you would have to specify the number 1, which often times sounds tacky. Be sure to try and purchase both domains (letter and number) and just have it route to the one you are using.
