How to change free WSO to paid WSO?

Hello,

I created my first WSO last week and gave it away as a free product. Although only ~70 people got their hands on it, many of them told me I was crazy for giving this out as a free product.

What that tells me?

- High quality product
- Bad WSO post (beginner's excuse)
- Bad judgement on giving out for free

So I've decided to TRY charging a small fee of $4.97 even though others have encouraged me to charge $7+.

My question is...

Is there a way to EDIT my existing WSO to add a price?

OR do I have to CLOSE this WSO and re-open as a paid WSO?

Thanks!

P.S. Just so you all know I'm not being lazy, I DID try to Google "how to change free wso to paid wso" and came up with nothing of use.

Yes you can edit your WSO, just go to the offer and hit Edit at the bottom of the post. You can then change anything you want.

I realize you do not have a bunch of comments on your WSO as of yet but I am not a fan of people racking up a bunch of "this is great" comments on a free giveaway and then changing it to a paid WSO to basically ride all of those "thanks much" comments to a bunch of sales.

I have seen threads closed in the past where the WSO author racked up a page of "thank you for this" comments and then changed the thread to a paid product thread. I am not sure what the exact policy is on this but I for one don't think it's completely ethical and I have seen threads closed in the past for doing this. I realize others have probably done it and and not had the thread closed...

If the thread is an early bird announcement that gives away some sort of freebie for signing up to the early bird list and that is clearly stated on the thread in the FAQ post or whatever I think that is a much more legit.

    Cheers

Or a better idea would be to add something valuable and relaunch it as a new Wso.

Perhaps that would be a better idea, but it's up to you.

Have you really thought this through?

Your product was free and you gave it away to a bunch of Warriors.

Now, based on the feedback, you're going to start charging for that same product? Not only that, you're now alerting all the people in the WF audience that you're going to begin charging for something you've been giving away.

(Scratching my head . . .) Let us know how that works for you.

The real question is why were you giving it away for free in the first place? If this was part of your sales funnel, there wouldn't be any need to start charging.

If you just put out a free wso without a sales funnel, in place, well, shame on you.

Giving away something for free shouldn't be done because you don't feel it is valuable.

It should be valuable, very valuable... since it is your first contact with many potential customers and you don't want them to waste their time going through a crappy product with your name on it.

There is, but as Don has rightly mentioned, above, that's going to give you a real problem with the testimonials/reviews, and the forum does have rules about that. If you're selling a WSO, but the review/testimonial comments come from people who didn't pay for the product, I think it has to say so in their posts. (And you can see that it might be rather misleading if it didn't say so? It might look like people thought it was "really good value" when none of them had actually paid?).

I'm not saying it's necessarily an insuperable problem, but it's something to be aware of.

    I agree with Don

    I also agree with Thomas.

However, if you did launch it for free without any funnel in place, there MAY be hope for you turning this into a paid WSO (sort of).

Perhaps you could continue giving away the report for free and sell PLR rights to it either on the backend or as a premium option B within the WSO thread itself.

The (apparent) good will you have built is nothing to scoff at. You have these people on a list, right?

On the other hand, as others have mentioned, changing now will probably not be as profitable (in the long run) as continuing to give it away free.

If you do change it I would do as Jens mentioned and shut down the current thread and post a new one.

just relaunch it as a premium product on the same thread.. encourage those who already have it for free post their review.. you may add something more to the usual freebie on your relaunch and then add a funnel as well

If people are saying you should be charging money for it, great, that's exactly what you want. That means you have a great freebie. The next step is not to start charging for it but instead get a sales funnel in place so that you can make money from giving away that freebie.

Hey guys. Thanks for your kind and respectful advice especially since my OP probably REEKS of newbie.

I haven't made any changes yet and its been a few days since it was on Page 1, still haven't bumped it because I will definitely switch things up prior to my first Bump, regardless of whether it remains free or not..

Regarding the Sales Funnel comments, I think I understand what that means. This was my original and current setup if this is what you mean by sales funnel:

Free WSO Post with Click to Download link included => Simple Landing Page with Opt-In to collect email address (OptimizePress & Aweber) => Subscription Confirmation => Redirect to Download page after confirmed subscription

I did not create an OTO or anything; it's really as simple and straightforward as it gets, but the guide itself is very well dressed up and comprehensive.

I was afraid of getting fancy and ahead of myself with my first WSO.

It would have been a nightmare if I had included a bunch of features before really understanding what they all were because that's a recipe for disaster i.e. something somewhere isn't functioning and your WSO is dead in the water from the start.

Finally, the 2 main reasons I made a Free WSO:

    1) Quick subscribers

    2) Developing an understanding through experience since my best work is yet to be released to the public, but I want to make the most of it when I'm ready to bring 'em out.

Thanks again and have a nice weekend everyone...
