Latest product stolen and published as Kindle book

I discovered today that my latest product (WSO e-book) has been published as a Kindle book on Amazon. The person who did it, literally created a Kindle cover and uploaded it to the store without any other changes. I have reported it to Amazon as a copyright infringement.

Any suggestions on further action? Heck they even took on of the testimonials from the WSO and had it added as a customer review on Amazon. Beyond hacked at this issue.

    You know who it is?

Do some basic research to find their physical address then have your attorney (or get one to do it) send them the following......

    1. A "Cease and Decist" notice demanding removal of the product. This gets sent as a CERTIFIED letter.

    2. Send Amazons legal team a copy of the C&D (not via certified mail)

    3. The fun part - send the offender a bill for $5,000.00 with the C&D as their "fine". Since your attorney is doing this, it will scare the shit out of them and they may contact you begging for mercy on the fine. Settle for whatever you think is fair.

My company has done this several times. The fine money goes into our company "beer fund".

Thanks for the input Ben. Not sure how I can get additional info on the author. It is the only item listed under that name. The only review left, was by a person that has done 5 reviews and the other 4 products are showing up with other reviews that this is a copyright infringement as well. Also reported that reviewer to Amazon.

PM me a link to the listing.

My company has a compliance department, a part of who's job it is to combat piracy of our information products. I have a digital forensics investigator on my team who can track them down in 5 minutes.

We track down, and shake down idiots doing stupid stuff at lease 3 or 4 times a month. I'll PM you what we find.

      That's impressive! Nice one XponentSYS.

The spam, scams, the put-downs to score cheap points and the moaning are a pain in the rear, but the odd post like this makes it worthwhile.

People online think it's ok to steal whatever and use it for themselves as if online products have no copyright. And we all know that's not true. Just because someone finds your stuff online or buys it, does not entitle them to it, unless it's PLR. And, I am sure your product was not PLR. Best of luck with the situation, I think it will work out for you.

Amazon may require a properly formatted DMCA notice to take it down. I would get one together right away and submit it to them. Just Google DMCA template and you'll get plenty of instructions to do a DMCA right. It won't take much time to get it taken down if you do that.

I am sorry to hear that. I have noticed now a days more people getting their stuff stolen. I don't know why people think it's OK to take someone else's work and pawn it off as their own. I hope it all gets resolved.

Seems like a large and active contingent of sociopaths have gravitated to the IM space. They don't necessarily think it's okay to steal, lie or whatever.

They just don't care, as long as they get what they want.

They don't care....... until they make the mistake of doing it to me.

When that happens, we track them down and if they're unfortunate enough to happen to live in the USA we sue them immediately.

Often times they don't even know they're on my radar until my attorney has subpoenad everything from their host and domain registrar, completed his "discovery" and filed the lawsuit.

We take a hard stance with piracy and word has gotten out.

          Guess what?

          Nobody steals my stuff now

Ben, they still don't care that they stole your stuff. They might care about the consequences, but they won't take responsibility for their actions.

You sound like one of those people with the "Forget the dog - Beware of owner" signs who means it. (That's meant as a compliment, btw...)

Ben is right - put the legal fear of god in them. They'll move on and nick someone elses stuff instead and leave you alone.

Sorry to hear this. Ebooks are bound to be shared! You can literally find every wso by doing a simple google...
@XponentSYS and @fatchap , Most of the people doing this are over seas ( I don't want to mention any countries to offend anyone) , and to them your legal threat means nothing, and word of advice : don't assume people are "idiots" .

Okay, If you wrote a book.... ( With ISBN registered to it... and has brought you good income ), you could take it down easily.

But.. This is a WSO...... ( Most people have no idea wht "wso" is.. and could care less ) and Amazon might assume you are making false claims since you do not have any ISBN registered with SAME content.

My advice is : Move on... WSO ebooks are fads anyways.
