How Have You Setup Your Phone Numbers?

5 replies
I would like to answer multiple numbers that represent various online businesses via one phone. Is this possible? There must be an app for this. The problem is being able to respond with a proper greeting based on what number was called.

How have you done your low-cost and efficient phone setup?

  • Joshua,

    One of your options for a virtual PBX system, which is also called a hosted PBX system, is Phone.Com =>> You can get the following features:

    • One free toll free number that covers US and most of Canada;
    • $4.99 / month for a UK local number;
    • $4.99 / month for an Australian local number;

    • Call Screening =>> Hear something like "You have received a call to [Your Phone.com number] from [the caller's number]. Press 1 to accept. Press 2 to reject." before you accept or reject or send the caller to voicemail. The caller does not hear this message and continues to hear the ring;

    • Other standard and premium features like custom greetings with IVR (Integrated Voice Response) menus (press 1 for sales, 2 for technical support and so on), call queue, call forwarding to other extensions, add unlimited extensions each with unlimited voicemail, voicemail sent to email as MP3s, send / receive fax from your computer/s and / or mobile device/s, call recording, voicemail transcription service and so on;
    • $14.95 / month for call recording capabilities of 1,000 minutes and $0.02 per minute in excess of these 1,000 minutes per month, among other reasonable prices for other premium features;

    • Forward inbound calls to one or more of your existing phone numbers;
    • Place outbound calls using any of your existing phone numbers;

    • $24.99 / month per softphone extension with unlimited toll free and local number inbound calling minutes and unlimited outbound calling minutes within the US and most of Canada =>> This is for each license of their softphone program, which you can install in your computer/s and / or mobile device/s so as to receive inbound calls in your computer/s and / or mobile device/s and place outbound calls from your computer/s and / or mobile device/s;

    • A discounted $21.99 / month per unlimited softphone extension price per softphone license, if you purchase more than 6 softphone extensions; and

    • Standard international per-minute calling rates when placing outbound calls outside the US and most of Canada, such as outbound calls to the UK and Australia among many other covered countries...

    NOTE: There are other providers of virtual PBX / hosted PBX systems that you can review, in order to find the most suitable solution for your requirements and budget...

    Hope this helps...

    Use Twillio - or a similar service.

    penny per minute,

    Have as many numbers as you like for @1.00 /month

    set up "whisper transfer"

    -so only you hear a word or phrase that tells you what business they are calling before you are connected - they only hear an extra ring.

    Have a different phrase for each number.

    You can even use multiple numbers per business - so you will know if they are calling customer service or sales or . . .
