I WILL Question Youtube Traffic

So much has been said about the traffic that you can drive over to your sites from Youtube. I mean it is really beautifully hyped up, and we all know that. Viral nature, involvement of all senses, millions of views, and what not!

But I have to say this... There are some MASSIVE MISCIONCEPTIONS...

1. You will get thousands upon thousands of viewers if you post quality stuff...
truth: If you post humorous stuff or absurd stuff....

2. The people don't care about the quality of production... they care about the value of the content caintained...
Truth: People just don't bother watching videos that do not have a nice thumbnail... and by nice I mean bulging ****'s or whatever.

3. You will geta lot of traffic from your videis over to your site...
TRUTH: this is absolutely false... First off... there has to be a strong enough reason for people to remember the domain name and type it into the address bar EVEN IF IT APPEARS AS A CAPTION right at the bottom all through the video. IMO... only 25% of the people that view the video go to your website

4. gets you instant SEARCH ENGINE RANKINGS...
Truth... but that traffic goes to Youtube and NOT your website.

5. The traffic is targeted
Truth: Yeah it is, but the point is that these people are really click savvy, and love clicking away... they aren't sticky enough to fill their names and email addresses into an opt in from even for free valuable content... Forget selling them something right on...

6. The traffic is instant..
Truth.. Nothing could be farther from the truth. I have nearly got 200 videos on Youtube on many different accounts for each website I promote, and all I am getting is a merer 200-400 unique visitors a day from there.

How do I know?

I am tracking the sources of incoming traffic. And I can see that youtube produces quantities and Youtube produces quality. But you don't get them together.

Unless you have something like 10,000 videos up there... (That I am planning to do btw and willdo that in a year or so from now)... You are not going to see hundreds of thousands of visitors.

the videos that go viral are generally absurd and/ or spooky. The people watching these videos are not really targeted traffic even if you manage to get a video like that.

The search engines index your videos on the first page... true... but the problem is that the seearch egines send traffic to youtube and not your website. And it is upto the visitor to go over to your website by reading your domain name, rem, embering and then finally typing it in the address bar. Its such a long distance from Search engine Traffic.

Backinks... I am not really experiencing any backlink traffic from the so called "Authority" site ie Youtube. At least not the benefits. It has certainly not helped my Search Engine Rankings.

No offense, but some of the "MASSIVE MISCONCEPTIONS" as you call them, that I see around are right in your post.

    1. You will get thousands upon thousands of viewers if you post quality stuff...
truth: If you post humorous stuff or absurd stuff....
Correct...you won't see thousands of views overnight....but seeing an increase is very possible. And seeing a big increase quickly is also very possible as long as you are doing things right.

Humorous stuff isn't the only stuff that gets attention JUST because it gets the MOST attention. Talk about a misconception...

Almost all of the time, I prefer not to try and go after the "funny"-viral-videos-giggles crowd. No offense, but in my experience you just rack up a lot of views on YouTube if you do it, but very little clicks to your website and few, if any, customers.

    2. The people don't care about the quality of production... they care about the value of the content caintained...
Truth: People just don't bother watching videos that do not have a nice thumbnail... and by nice I mean bulging ****'s or whatever.
Thumbnail? Really? Honestly, the thumbnail may play a role, but it's a small role......it's a also a "trick" who's effectiveness hasn't been all that great for a while now.

    3. You will geta lot of traffic from your videis over to your site...
TRUTH: this is absolutely false... Well....first off, if you type the domain name with the http:// format they don't have to TYPE the domain into the browser....they can just click the link.

    25%?!?!?!?....gasp.....25%!?!?!?!

    Talk about another "MISCONCEPTION".

25% is a huge number. Can you do better? Yeah....

Have I done better? Yes, several times....

Can you EXPECT 25%???? No chance....

Better think something more like 10%....maybe even less. That number shoots WAY down when you start promoting stuff to RANDOM people....like promoting biz opps with "funny" viral videos. Once that happens you're into "grab bag" traffic land....that's a fun little land where you hope and pray for anything close to 5%.

    4. gets you instant SEARCH ENGINE RANKINGS...
Truth... but that traffic goes to Youtube and NOT your website.
No...the traffic goes to YouTube first, but if you can rank at the top of the Google SERPS and link effectively to your site, then suddenly you can start to see targeted traffic....much better than that random stuff.

    5. The traffic is targeted
Truth: Yeah it is, but the point is that these people are really click savvy, and love clicking away... they aren't sticky enough to fill their names and email addresses into an opt in from even for free valuable content... Forget selling them something right on...
Huh? Lost me here. How is targeted Google SERP traffic any different than Adwords? Surfer types in their search query, sees a result that is related(hopefully yours), clicks on the link.

    How is that different?

    6. The traffic is instant..
Truth.. Nothing could be farther from the truth. I have nearly got 200 videos on Youtube on many different accounts for each website I promote, and all I am getting is a merer 200-400 unique visitors a day from there.
    It all depends....as always.

If you do some things right, put in some work, and maybe get a little lucky in the process.....it's possible to see a ton of targeted traffic very quickly. I had videos that took off literally overnight and started making $25-50 a day within a week or so. Other videos don't do as well.

I'll agree here, the more videos the better. But I don't know if 10,000 videos is even possible. No offense bro, but that's like 30 videos a day. If you're simply SPAMMING YouTube that may be possible.....but it won't last very long.

the videos that go viral are generally absurd and/ or spooky. The people watching these videos are not really targeted traffic even if you manage to get a video like that.
Again....this obsession with "going viral" and getting a "million views" is overrated. Most videos that do so make very little money and aren't targeted at an audience that will respond to some RANDOM, pushy offer.

The search engines index your videos on the first page... true... but the problem is that the seearch egines send traffic to youtube and not your website. And it is upto the visitor to go over to your website by reading your domain name, rem, embering and then finally typing it in the address bar. Its such a long distance from Search engine Traffic.
Again....free targeted traffic from the Big G is probably not a bad thing....especially since lots of people fork over big bucks every day to get it.

As for remembering the URL......leave a link. There are other tricks too. I'm not going to blab those all around.

Backinks... I am not really experiencing any backlink traffic from the so called "Authority" site ie Youtube. At least not the benefits. It has certainly not helped my Search Engine Rankings.
I've heard this from some people, but the links on YouTube are "nofollow" and likely don't help you at all. Certain free backlink checkers around the net can tell you this.

I think edlewis summed it up quite well here...

Those "misconceptions" you speak of are either not what you think they are or you have a moot point on some of them...

If you are expecting YouTube to bring in some monster of a result then you are going to feel let down, but if you set your standard to what YouTube is good for then you will be pleasantly surprised...

You questioning YouTube traffic is like those folk who complain when they don't win the lottery every week...

I had about 10,000 views on one of my tutorial and have recieved many private messages for me to coach and over 800 comments on my video. It really depends on what are you targeting. Can't tell you much about aff biz - even I run away from those videos.

Edlewis has said summed it up pretty well. Of course that random things don't work.

I believe Youtube is the most unexploited source of traffic nowdays! The number of people who use Youtube is huge huge huge and your competition on videos is always small when relatevely compared to the search engines. Man, you can try to do the worst video possible, target the worst possible keywords and it will still get some views.

People don't use Youtube just for entertainment, they use it for education as well. True, most people are in an entertainment mindset while on Youtube. This is what you seriously need to take in mind. And there sure are ways to overcome that issue! Like, never try to pitch them while they are in that mindset.
