Does Paypal or your Credit Card Company gives Refund for Digital Products?

Hi,

Like many newbies we are all concern and some are very concern about buying digital products. Does Paypal provides a refund for digital products? Many times we bought something online especially digital products and when these sellers refused a refund, we have no re-course except to file a dispute with Paypal and the outcome is always, and YES ALWAYS Paypal will not refund back your transaction or reverse back the transactions in your favor because their terms and conditions clearly state there are NO REFUND for Digital Products. Even if your credit cards are link to paypal, and once your credit card company / bank found out that paypal has turn down your dispute, you are out of luck.

So let the Buyer Beware, would be great if WF can have some form of protection for these buyers of digital products in your website forum. I hope they is? I am not sure ? if they is None, wow you are out of luck again.

Would be great to hear from the active members, especially the sellers and buyers.

First let me say that I always give a refund (if in the refund period) however lets be honest. Digital products should not be refundable. Why? Because you cant give the purchase back. You can say you deleted it from your computer .. but there is no way to force you to. This is similar for offline business. Go to WalMart and buy a DVD .. open it, and then try to return it, they wont take it back, because the potential for abuse is to high. Same thing for digital products there is a huge potential for abuse. Really its a act of faith in peoples morals that digital product sellers offer refunds at all.

Also I noticed that you said "many times you asked for a refund ...", well I have to ask, why are you asking for refunds 'many times'. You sound like a serial refunder .. the bane of digital product sellers, and the reason many sellers are a little hesitant to give them so quickly. Here is an idea STOP buying stuff you dont really want .. and stop asking for refunds 'many times'

Although I agree that it's not really possible to "return" a digital product, there are a lot of digital products being sold here and on affiliate networks whose quality is questionable and it's not surprising people will want refunds.

Besides it's the choice of the seller to offer a refund, but you know as well as me that you're not going to sell as many digital products if you don't offer a refund.

In fact, if the quality of your product is high enough, offering a refund will make you a lot more money than not doing it, because you will make more sales, while the refund rate will be low.

As such, in my opinion, the possibility of refunds keeps sellers honest and should not really worry you if your products are of good quality.

Not trying to be funny, but you sound like a serial refunder. Most sellers offer a refund, so not sure why you are having a problem.

    So let the Buyer Beware
Let the sellers beware of you

    PayPal isn't selling products.

If you want a refund for a digital product, you must ask the product vendor.

If you make a PayPal dispute straight away without contacting the vendor, many vendors will not refund (me included).

If (again) you're buying from a WSO, the vendor has to live up to his refund policies, or he'll be banned. So there's only a tiny risk here.

And if you buy from well-known vendors who doesn't want to risk their reputation on cheating, then you're also safe.

On the other hand, if somebody has a no-questions asked refund guarantee, and you want to get your money back, and the vendor doesn't refund, then it will most likely not help you to do a PayPal dispute, because they only guarantee physical goods.

If someday people would realize that the customer is ultimately the one who decides whether or not you're gonna refund them ---- and NOT you or the processor ---- then you'd just process the refund request and move on.

Why does the customer get to ultimately decide?

Because if they get a "no" from you.... or your processor..... they'll go get a "yes" from their bank and that means a chargeback for you.

Come on..... is a stupid $7 refund really worth jeopardizing your business' future by no longer being able to accept credit cards?

I don't think that automatic refunds is a well-balanced system. As it was said in such a case sellers are not protected at all from serial refunders. And let's put it straight - they are doomed to be robbed.

That's why PayPal provides a dispute resolution center which is to some extent is a form of mediation. You have a chance to express your discontent with the product and a seller should reply providing explanation or a form of resolution. Even though PayPal will not refund your purchase of a non-tangible product it will still have a record of an unsatisfactory transaction, which in a long term may influence your reputation. And I would say that reputation is quite a factor in a high competitive environment. And that's why most sellers have refund policy and honestly stick to it.

So, my best recommendation here is: choose wisely what your're purchasing and pay attention to a refund policy.
