Now I have a serious paypal problem

by Adie

Someone tried to log-in to my paypal account somewhere and its password was locked.

Paypal says "new password has been sent to your physical address on file"

The problem is, I already moved twice since I created that account and I forgot to update the address. I am not even sure if which of my previous 2 addresses is still on Paypal record.

A customer mistakenly sent $500 to that account and I can't log-in...

Any suggestion is highly appreciated. Calling paypal from here costs gold. Is there anyway to contact paypal through email?

Thanks

Call them from Skype, won't cost that much.

Getting a response from them through email takes forever. I don't recommend it, if you want an urgent response. You can also try to contact them through Twitter I heard it gets fast response. @AskPayPal

I can't buy skype credit because I can't pay through Paypal. I just twetted and hoping for faster response. I reviewd their tweets and it looks like they responded on time to other members. Hoping for the best.

Skype credit can be brought through credit card I guess.

    Hi Adie
I wrote to Paypal customer care and they responded to it through e-mail registered with them. Did you explain the gravity of the situation. May be I was lucky enough. Is your Paypal account tied with your bank account? If so I think you can prove it easily and talk to them in this line.
    With best of luck.

I thought their support number was toll free:
    1-888-221-1161

If that's the case then you can call it on Skype without the need for any credit.

    Worth a shot.

I guess it's toll free if you are inside US?

There is no option to reset password. If you follow all instructions, you will be asked to phone them at the end..

Since when does PayPal create a password to give you?
Looking through the help that doesn't seem to be the way they do it.

Anyone, friend or foe, could get your mail and get immediate and full access to your PayPal account.

If they knew which email address you used.

And I would say the password does not necessarily get you access into the account. It probably takes you to a page where you have to answer some questions to be able to confirm your identity and reset your password.

For what it's worth, banks send credit cards through the mail every day of the week.

If someone opens your mail and logs into your account thats illegal and they are in for some serious trouble.

I can verify that you can call PayPal on a US toll-free # for free through Skype from outside the US.

    Mark

Edit: But I have heard stories of them wanting to see their customers calling from the number on file or they get suspicious.

Edit #2: SMS cost money through Skype.

I'll try it tomorrow as my current poor connection does not allow me to use skype.

That sucks. They may ask you for documents like a copy of a utility, like power or cable, or your phone bill that is mailed to your physical address. They don't accept online copies, it has to be a picture or scan of the actual bill being sent to your home address. I had an issue recently and that is what it took to resolve, although my problem was slightly different, it was due to accessing my account while overseas.

Adie, you're making close to $50K per year and you can't afford to phone Paypal?
What about calling cards, don't they have them in the Philippines?

Exactly my point, somebody who earns $50k+/yr in Philippines can easily afford to call for a few minutes even if it costs $10/minute. After all it is about your whole business and not just that $500 payment!

We have been friends in the past Adie, but I'm sorry to say that something doesn't add up over here.

Even it takes $50-100 for a 1 hr call to get everything sorted out, it is well worth it. And I doubt it would end up costing more than $15 tops. So just make the call.

Can you say "sloppy beyond belief 'business' practices?"

I get so sick of hearing people cry about stuff that is due to their own negligence or apathy.

You need to call them to resolve this issue.

I don't think that just emailing PayPal is the way to go. Talk to them and see what they say.

Problem have been solved. Thanks to some suggestions although other comments are way out of topic but I won't mind them anymore.

Some things you may want to know.

    1. This account is seldom used and I only log-in 2 to 3 times a month.
    2. Customer mistakenly sent fund to this account because it's my main contact email.
    3. We just devastated by Typhoon Rammasun and our Internet and Powerlines are not yet 100% functional giving us extreme difficulty in direct international calls.
    4. Even if I am earning close to $50K a month, I will not spend $10, $20, $50 if I can get it free or for the cheaper price. That's how I do business.

Problem solved through twitter without spending a dime and thanks a lot to the above warrior, Ledux
