Odd "Spammy" Blog Comments, but No Links!

For a while now I have had some very strange blog comments on two of my WP sites.
They have no links at all.
But most of the comments look exactly like spam, in that they were once coherent articles (irrelevant to my blogs), that have since been spun in a very bad spinner (or by a very stupid person!)
Some have keywords as names, such as "Cheap Louis Vuitton Bags", which of course is a common spam tactic, but because the comments don't contain a URL, the keyword-names don't link to anywhere.
I have Akismet enabled, and all comments set to be moderated, and they are getting through as normal legitimate comments.
I am confused as to why people would bother posting silly comments like this if they don't include links.
Here's an example of one comment with no links (my site is about autism btw, so no relevance). The only change I've made is; I've taken out the name in the email:
Author : medical billing School california (IP: 54.242.155.135 , ec2-54-242-155-135.compute-1.amazonaws.com)
E-mail : [namewithheld] AT gawab .com

Are they just that stupid that they forgot to put the links in? (like the burglar who left his iphone behind and was promptly arrested?!)
Or is Akismet (or something else) taking out all the links?
I even had two very strange email alerts telling me of "comments" that had No name, no IP address, no link, and no comment; just a whois ID, which led me nowhere.
Can anyone shed any light on this mystery?
