Wordpress Comments vs Disqus

I am curious if anyone has any thoughts on this. Which is better Wordpress' comments (or other wordpress plugin comments) or using something like Disqus. Are there any advantages on using Wordpress' comments system? I could list a bunch for Disqus, but I am wondering if there is any kind of SEO benefit to using Wordpress' comments.

  • I dislike Disqus and all similar log on systems that require you to access some app.

I don't remember my disqus password so if I'm on a computer that's not mine trying to comment on a site where Disqus is not used, I'll often just abandon my comments.

    • From the point of view of the blog owner, this could be a good thing, how you have to login to Disqus to post comments on enabled blogs. If the person making the comment has to take time to login, there's a chance they are not a spammer. Any place where someone can just post a link with fake (unverified) email is likely to attract spammers.
  • It depends what you are after. What happens if you use disqus comments on your blog and in a years time they go belly up (it happens). You've lost all those comments and all that content for your site.

I'd much rather be in control of those comments and own them. That means Wordpress comments.
  • In my experience 3rd party login sites reduce engagement. If someone does not have an account with them or does not wish to join them you lose them.

I find many sites that use disqus simply do not work.

A lot of people want to comment but not use social networks or leave a "footprint", you also lose the most valuable thing in this business, their email address.
  • I use disqus more than wordpress but now a days, I am facing some problem. After getting approved also if I refresh the page for 2-3 times, the comment goes to the moderation mode. May I know what is the problem with the same. I have tried with different IPs with different accounts as well. But nothing has worked.
  • For me WordPress comment is best for me. People interact with simple forms rather than a login system asking for some information. I have also experienced that people make less comment on disqus rather than WordPress comment system.

DISQUS is now really powerful and easy to setup. People are using disqus easily. From small blogs to to Barak Omaba campaign website are using DISQUS!
  • I personally use Wordpress comments. Because I have seen issues with Disqus.

Also ask your audience if they like disqus or wordpres comments better!
It doesn't matter how we think but most importantly how your audience thinks!
  • They are the same. But when it comes to me commenting on a blog, I would rather comment on a blog with Disqus because it is much easier to comment, you don't have to fill out a form or anything like that.
  • Wordpress comments does help with SEO and social proof.. It's actually content that the search engines look at over time. Also, people prefer to use Wordpress comments..
  • Go simple... Use Wordpress!

Everytime I see Disqus, or worse, Facebook commenting, I abandon ship.

Obviously, as others above have said, I'm not alone.
  • I am a fan of WordPress, and I am not the only one, there are many plugins for improving WordPress commenting that you can use, apart from that, it a very popular script, flexible with many plugins and themes available online.
  • I think about this all the time, i say disqus is number 2 and a premium comment luv is number 1
  • As a frequent commenter I go back to many
sites I'd never think of again because of Disqus.

I like it as a user.
  • I have used both Disqus and WordPress Comment. There are a lot of bloggers switching over to Disqus from the native comment system found in WordPress. So use both blog for comment.
  • Both WordPress and Disqus comments are a good option. Using Disqus can help reduce spam, but it may have a negative impact on user engagement. From a SEO point of view, you can use any of them.

    • If I own a ticket website like stubhub, but have limited space due to using a very limited boilerplate website structure and obviously not even a player in the ticket industry yet, should I use Disqus to improve SEO?
  • If you have jetpack enabled in your WordPress Blog than you can use jetpack comment system which is also integrate with askimet.

    • On most of my blogs I use WordPress comments... a few of them use Facebook comments. So I would choose WP comments.
