How to research a niche

I want to get started in email and internet marketing and I want to create some products in order to build an email list.

How would I go about researching a niche to see if there are enough people interested in the niche to make a significant product/business around it?

Any and all feedback would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Well, there are a couple of ways you can go about it. The easiest way for someone starting out is to just make a list of things that interest you. Everybody has at least one or two hobbies that fall into a profitable niche (whether they not it or not). This is also a good way to start out because it will be easier for you to relate to your audience since you, yourself, are part of the niche.

The second way to go about it is to use a site like Amazon, where you can browse popular categories. They are popular for a reason. Looking at the magazine section may help as well. Magazines are broken down into niches. Lots of research (from the markets they target to the ads inside) goes into them. I would recommend that you avoid the "make money online" niche until you've worked outside of IM and have had some success. I hope that makes sense.

Find out what people are buzzing about on Facebook. Most times, you can find discussions on Facebook groups. Start with a list of topics you think that you might like to write about and then research those in the groups online. Another great place to get feedback on specific ideas or niches you want to blog about is at forums. Ask questions at related forums as to whether or not anyone would be interested in seeing another site on that niche.

A niche is a centered, target able piece of the business sector. You are a master giving an item or administration that concentrates on particular customer bunch's necessities, which can't or are not tended to in such detail by standard suppliers.

    Hi Bleek7712

Personally, I just do some VERY basic keyword research using the free tool at WordTracker to see if there's interest and a buying market in a topic I may want to enter.

And from there, If I can find bloggers and marketers who are successfully making money in that niche, that's usually enough for me to make a final decision.

The only time I don't enter a potential niche is if no one else is successfully blogging about it or selling products. And obviously making money from it.

    Hope that helps!

Well, I would use follow.net to spy on the landing pages of the big hitters in the market. So, for example, in the self help niche I would use follow.net to research on Marianne Williamson's site etc.

That way I will get a feel of the type of lead magnets, headlines, terminology etc. that these market leaders are using (if any) and model after them.

Before creating a product I suggest goint to warriorplus and jvzoo to see what is being sold. this way you know what people are interested in and willing to spend their money on. Of course you can start browsing forums and blogs as well. This is a very good way to find out what they want, need and desire.
So, there are many ways to find a good profitable niche. You just need to pick one and stick with it.

    Good luck!

A good way that I always say is to go to clickbank and look at the top 10 - 20 products and you will see a bit of a trend as what sells the best

I think the last time I looked I saw the shed plans product about number 3 lol but usually the products in the top 10 are make money, weight loss, and relationships

Go where the money is already being spent and just improve things and find a different angle

I call this method "the 3 Big C's" of niches:

Competition - number of ads, products, sellers, etc.

Customers - list sizes, circulation numbers (like magazines), search volumes, buying stats, bestseller ranks, product ranking systems, product reviews, etc.

Channels (for reach) - existing mailers, blogs, marketplaces, communities, etc.

Well, then look up my siggy if you have no idea where else to continue.

    In a newsagent's shop.

If people are buying magazines that include articles/information on the niche, then it's popular enough. Commercial print media publishers are very good judges of these things. They have to be, to survive. And if they can sell magazines offline, you can sell things online.

Looking at the AdWords ads on Google for the "obvious keywords" (just whatever occurs to you first, whatever you'd look for yourself, no need to analyze in detail, for this purpose) can sometimes be interesting, too - to see if there are any/how many there are, how quickly they come round again (on which SERP's page), how long they're there for, and so on. (If people are continuing to pay for traffic, then they're making something out of it).

I know this is a long approach, but what I do is join high authority sites like Squidoo, Hubpages, and write about on a bunch of topics I find interesting, or figure would do. Then I wait and see for about 6 months which ones generate the most sales, then start a niche around that topic.

I've developed two nice and profitable niches thus far.
