I'm Trying to understand bookmarking

I have read a number of posts and articles talking about bookmarking. I see the little icons everywhere - you can hardly avoid them.
So being a good article marketer I decided I should get involved. As I am in the process of signing up I am thinking.
Why am I doing this?
The penny will drop soon but perhaps you could help speed this process for me

My understanding - which may or may not be accurate - is that there are two main benefits in social bookmarking.

    1. Traffic - if you, say, got on the front page of Digg you would get a craptonne of traffic. However, even small trickles can add up.

    2. Backlinks - many of the "bigger" social bookmarking sites have "nofollow" attributes, however, there are some that do not. You can use this to build links to your site/articles. I don't think they're very powerful at all, and if they are I doubt it will last long, however, short-term visibility can have long-term effects, and having ANY links to your articles is more than most article writers do, so you'll hopefully be able to get above them for SERPs for your article.

Basically what your doing by writing articles is creating links to your site right? Well that's all social bookmarking is other then it is from different sites.

Bottom Line -It takes a way shorter amount of time to write a quick summary on digg then it does to write a 500 word article on EA. Your 500 word article will get consistent traffic and your digg bookmark will get instant traffic. It's good to have a good combination of both. But don't spend all day bookmarking if you only have 5 articles on EA.

Do we need to pay money for social bookmarking?

Not unless you're paying someone else to do it for you. It's free.

I know Jack Humphrey and Sam Clark (16 Steps) are really into using social sites to drive traffic. You can read some of the reviews about SENuke in the review section of the WF (http://www.warriorforum.com/internet...73-senuke.html) which is a monthly membership that does everything you can do free but streamlines the process. Not for new marketers but if you go to their page and read through you'll get a good feel about social marketing.

It's not necessary or good for every niche so you'd need to consider the habits of your customer. It does take a bit of time and energy but it can be a pretty good traffic generator.

Social Bookmarking is basically share bookmarks between community members, at the same time dig up and vote for the good web site / pages.

Internet marketer use them to fast tap into search engine ranking, and because the bookmark always move from first page to the next, eventually it won't last for long...(anyone has long term success with bookmarking?)

I am not sure if you bookmark all services at once will alert the search engine or not, I always try to keep the bookmarking site 10 to 20, and spin the title and description to be as unique as possible.

If you want fast indexing and ranking, bookmark is the best! Register 3 or more accounts, bookmark your own page and others, if you only bookmark your site, you might get banned by some of the bookmarking services.

Use automated software to speed up your work - such as web2submitter, bookmarkdemon, SENuke or online service - Socialmarker / Socialposter.

Anyone else has more success with bookmarking? kind to share your experience?

Bookmarking can be long and short term, depending on the bookmarking sites you use. Digg is a great example of quick short term effect. Squidoo is a great example of a more long term effect. Both will give you back links and traffic.
It does get better when people vote for your submission. That is what gets you better rankings within the social media sites. But I found it very difficult to get others to vote for my submissions. Probably because I am in niches that are not popular enough.
The other day, I found an awesome social bookmarking community. They use a software program to vote for each others social bookmarks on most of the popular social bookmarking sites. For each vote given to a member you get the right for a vote back to one of your own submissions. It solved all my problems. I have no problem anymore getting attention in the popular bookmarking sites. It truely solved my problem. I believe the website for this membership site is "Get Unlimited Traffic From Social Bookmarking Sites".

Social bookmarking can help your site get indexed weekly and if your content is good then you may get pretty good traffic from bookmark website as well as other people will bookmark your website.

It depends how much time you have.

If I'm launching into a new niche - I ping and bookmark every page that has a link to my new site - wherever it is. So most of the pinging and bookmarking will invariably be for other peoples sites - so it helps them but in turn also helps me.

You bookmark both of them. Some places you bookmark the blog article. Some places you bookmark the EZA article. And then the next day you could switch. You want to be promoting both of them.

Always promote your promotions (EZA articles). It helps them maintain good rankings to keep them working well for you.

    As an example:

A few days ago I put up a Squidoo lens in a niche. I then bookmarked it. Within 10 minutes, the Digg bookmark was on page 1 of Google. The Squidoo lens is still working its way up somewhere in the depths.

With my videos, it's been the same. I end up with a bunch of bookmarks on page 1 very quickly, and a number of them stay there month after month -- driving traffic over to the video.

I love questions like this! I would suggest testing the water with Digg, Propeler and Stumble. They are good ways to get started in bookmarking.

I need some help to everyone. Could you let me know what your biggest questions are in social media? Heres the question: InYourFaceResults.com

    Thanks in advance!
