Charge Membership For Computer Repair/Tech Shop

Hey guys,
I posted this question a couple of weeks ago, and got alot of positive feedback but I wasn't able to interact with everyone because I was busy as all get out, on top of that I can't find the post! So here it goes again. I want to know how I would go about creating a model that allows me to charge a annual fee to members? That said, by charging a annual fee I want to be able to pass savings to the customer by giving them a discount when it is time to service their machines. For example, a member can pay $99 annually and when their machine gets wormy then I only charge $25-30 to service it. Has anyone implemented something like this? I want to say someone commented on the last post and said this was similar to MBR? I think that is what is was called. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

According to your post count, this is your first post.

First, start with your current customers... Do they bring their machines in once a year?

If so, is the cost to service it $130?

If so, paying $99 to get a yearly $130 service for $25 may make some sense... But honestly, neither of us have ever 'taken our machines in' anywhere...

Seems like your best bet may be to spy on your competitors, see what they are doing and try to reverse engineer it. With a little research on Google, it looks like Geek Squad offers 24/7 support for $9.99/mo...

$99 a year plus service charges? These days people don't usually keep computers long enough to pay for anything annually. This seems pretty expensive. I have a $600 laptop that I bought 4 years ago and I've never had a problem with it. By the time I do I will want a new one anyway. I wouldn't be happy that I paid $400 over the past 4 years just in case something happened to it.

As cheap as computers are these days, I doubt most of the people who are too frugal to update their machines are the type that would spend money on an annual maintenance discount club.

$10-20 per year is what people are likely going to pay a shop run by 2-3 people. And you can then charge another $20-25 per visit. For people without membership you can probably do $35-50 per visit. And you need to head over to their place. Not the other way round.

I doubt you'd even make $1000/yr doing this on a small scale.

Yeah this is my first post on this account. I forgot my password to my other account and had to create a new one. @MelanieandMiles most of my customers come in at least once a year to be serviced. Sometimes they come in more than once, and I charge $65-$75 flat rate for virus removal and maintenance. That said, I like the model that Geek Squad uses. $9.99 a month is pretty cheap. Lowering the cost so that more people can afford the service seems sound. Also I like the idea of servicing machines on site. So traveling expenses would be something I need to calculate within the annual fee.
