I had to laugh... I unsubbed from a newsletter and the guy was arrogant enough to have a message of "You are unsubscribed... bad move "

  • that's hilarious. man, does he think folks will come sniveling back?

unlikely, we'll probably remember that name well, and be sure never to get sucked in again.

    thanks for the chuckle.

    • Reminds me of someone who would tell his boss off on his way out the door - having to have your say burns bridges that you might need to cross later.

  • That is hilarious!
  • I've actually had an unsubscribe notice come back saying "you have unsubscribed ... and you suck". I'm serious.
  • I've been toying with the idea of having an unsubscription page that says "You have unsubscribed. Would you like to subscribe again?" and then a subscription form.

    • lol now this has potential!
    • Not an original idea, but no need to test it. It works. Especially if you give incentive. Like another freebie. Just make your unsub page into another squeeze.

      It's magical.
    • I saw this very thing today when I unsubbed from a bunch of crap except they offered a whole freakin' page of stuff to subscribe to.
    • It might be interesting if you had some interesting issues or content coming up in the newsletter to let them know....

We are sorry you are leaving, We are having a lot of cool stuff coming up like xxx, xxxx, xxxx, and xxxx.

If you wish to make sure you don't miss out then fill in the subscription form below...

not sure what would happen but it is an intriguing thought....
    • HAHAHAHa This made me laugh so hard. Why not? That's a great idea.
    • lol! Totally cracked me up!
  • I got one once several months back reading "Prepare to die, Unsubscriber." Makes me sad to think that people do things like that to those who do not continue their subscription. Yeah, that'll make us come back. Death threats. Hollow ones at that!
  • I scrolled to the bottom of an upsell page one time so I could click on to where I wanted to go, and the "no thanks" button said "No thanks, I like being a failure."

I didn't even bother going any further; I just signed out of there and unsubscribed from the person the next time they sent me an email.
  • OK OK, sheesh. I'll take the 'bad move' part out. Quick kicking my a** over it. :p
  • Hi Scott, strange...he could have said something more positive...like all the best or something....

He did a bad move. hehe

    • Hi Rich,

That sounds like the getresponse unsubscribe page. Expect to see it again

      Hi Vince,

Or sometimes you want to MAKE SURE that those bridges are burnt so that no matter how desperate you get, and how much you pretend to yourself 'it wasn't that bad really', you can never go back.
  • Seen this alot in the MLM circles...

"you are now terminated from this program and all your member benefits..."

"when your ready to take action, you may apply again..."

    "Have you thought this through?"

And multiple pages of options B4 the unsubscribe link. (all options checked as "yes", requiring you to uncheck each one) my favorite!

Seen it with old affiliate accounts too...

"Your affiliate account has been TERMINATED due to lack of sales..."

OK, let me just get right to work promoting your product ASAP!:p LOL!
  • I have seen some high class marketers do this - on the sorry to see you go page. Often times someone unsubscribes because they don't remember subscribing or maybe don't want to receive that particular kind of email. But the marketer tells them they are sorry to see them go but perhaps you would reconsider ... and offer a different freebie and a new opt-in box.

Too bad some Marketers use the FO approach to marketing. They won't last. Can you imagine a coffee shop owner having that attitude. No repeat customers and no word of mouth advertising either. they slit their own throats!!

As for the rest of us - cheerful customer service right?! This is business and some of the most remembered brick and mortar businesses "romance" their customer base. Why can't we?? Read Seth Godin The Purple Cow or Permission Marketing to learn how this works best.

    Just my 2 cents.

    • That's funny.

As the old cliche goes, You never get a second chance to make a first impression,

I assume that he has had a lot of people unsubscribe, so even if he does have something good to offer, people won't subscribe or get the freebie and quickly unsubscribe. Either way, its a bad move on his part.

  • Maybe people thinking they can be like the Rich Jerk and get rich as well?
  • Amazing opt-out story!

I think you should email the guy (It's a guy, right? Girls can't possibly be that arrogant or rude, can they?) and tell him that you unsubbed because he treated you like a piece of meat with a wallet and you resent him shilling you to sign up to the list with a great opt-in report just so he could switch-and-bait off-topic and spam the living guts out of you with affiliate emails in the guise of a legitimate opt-in.

Rant over. Drives me nuts but I'm getting better since I took control of my inbox from the off-topic spammers--they get a chance to send me legitimate info, then if they start with the off-topic garbage, ZAP. Last week I began unsubbing from tons of lists that I felt broke my trust in them for these exact reasons. I also deleted several thousand emails, so I feel all righteous at the moment.

Maybe I'll get an equally news-worthy opt-out message and share it as I continue to clean out my inbox!
  • Hahaha, these people are unbelievable. Ya, I wonder what there customer service records show!

Imagine trying to get support from the likes of these wackjobs :~)
