Lots of product review site or a niche blog site?

For example, i could want to make a blog about everything to do with hockey, or i could make some sites that review the products in hockey, e.g best hockey sticks etc

Which one is better for me?
i would still do the product reviewing, but on the main site that is all about hockey?

Thanks

Would say go for the niche site. You want to build the reader base mainly on hockey. You can build a list, and at least you know the main niche of the site is strictly hockey.

Of course, having a couple of review pages wouldn't hurt every so often.

    Best of luck

You can have a niche site dedicated to your Hockey enthusiasts with a section for product reviews -- you can even do this in downloadable for, or make it an autoresponder. Top 5 sticks of 2014... rule changes for next season... etc

I agree with the other guys. But sure product review gets more sales than general niche article/blog.

I would say in a sense that product reviews do make more than a general site, but I have my opinion based on the fact that he was confused whether the site should be about all kinds of random products in different niches or strictly one niche with products in that niche, and the latter is what I would recommend.

It's better to go for a blog that deals with everything about hockey because creating only a review site about hockey might be good for short-term but most visitors will think the site to be just an affiliate place wanting to sell and make money out of them. So, making a blog with everything about hockey, building a list, still reviewing products and giving them solutions to hockey-related issues will be more of a long-term business model and also profitable.

    Hey steelbruh,

I would recommend just doing a blog niche site.

It is much easier to manage multiple sites from one space where you have all of your content, rather than many separate review sites.

Be sure to stay consistent with your posting, as this will do wonders for you ranking in SERPS of Google.

    Hope this helps you out!

    Wow, amazing response guys!

    Thankful for all the responses!
I have decided to pursue a niche site instead of a product review site, your opinions made me do so, thanks!

Go for niche websites/blogs as the competition is lower and the chance to rank for some keywords and succeed is higher.

Create a site reviewing hockey products. An authority site on everything related to hockey might be too broad for you to handle, but if you are sure you can handle it, then build a site about hockey in general.

Personally, I would think outside the box.

Because there are more types of sites that
effectively sell products that are neither review
    sites nor niche blogs. :-)

In fact, what DOES a site that effectively
    sells look like?

No, no, forget the IM junk you see.

    Forget the Clickbank universe.

Go look at how REAL products are sold
    by REAL businesses.

Review sites, as we stereotype them, offer little
    value.

Niche blog sites can be a whole lot of work
for something that doesn't sell very well, if at
    all.

Think about what it is you're attempting to
accomplish, and then pick it apart. Don't
allow your brain to be lazy on this and the
rewards will prove worth the effort.

I'd go the authority blog over a review site because it will get a larger following.

An authority site can include a review section so you dont miss out on the affiliate sales but you will get a more diversified readership. Which will open the door to a more diversified monetization stategy.

With a review site you can only make money from the reviews you make but with a larger more diverse readership you can make more money through advertising, promote product that are loosely related to hockey (exercise, mindset, ect), promote DVDs subscriptions, ect.

Diversifying your income streams will also come in handy if an affiliate program (Amazon for example) bans you or stops trading.
