Sell ebook off sales page or opt in to newsletter?

I will soon be selling an ebook: "reverse your arthritis". $19.99
As there will be no upsell, why bother with a newsletter?
I was going to give away a free ebook which I hired a medical expert to write, explaining what arthritis is, different types, and medications used and side effects, and tips on diet and exercise) to build a list.

I was even going to offer:
" sign up for our newsletter, ...free ....ask our resident medical expert, any question related to arthritis, where you will also get many healthy tips from her. She is in year 6 of her training to be a Medical Doctor. It will be like having your own Doctor" .
As there is no upsell after selling them the ebook, why bother with a newsletter?
I can just direct them to my sales page which is on my home page 1 page website.....
Any suggestions how I can do all this better?
The book could sell 1000's.
Please help!

What if it doesn't sell. They come to your site and imagine they turn away. But if you have a pre-sell offer then you can sign them up andit would be easy to market to them.

You know that the book is written by a medical professional but they don't know that and they may not believe until they see it themselves.

    Think about it

I'm a visitor to your site, I do need to know more about arthritis and your site appears to have what I need - to the tune of $19.99.

Unfortunately, I don't know you. You may be some guy in nigeria trying to take my $20!

But, if you have some "free" (cost of email) information - I'll probably be inclined to check it out.

If your information is good - I'll come back and give you the money.

To keep in touch with your customers. To promote related or new products. To be a super nice person and inform them. The list goes on...

    Always build a list, period.

You can keep in touch with prospects and customers, you can promote related products, and if you create a new product you have a customer base you can promote to immediately.

    Nothing but advantages.

If you have a nice, simply salespage, I should use that.

Cold traffic doesn't just land on a paid offer and buy.

It's about branding yourself and the best way to do that is via building a list. There needs to be some form of trust. Try sending the traffic to the offer, then have an opt-in form as an exit pop-up for those who don't buy. Then run 2 different lists for those who bought and for those who didn't buy.

I would build that list to increase your chances. On a sales page you have one chance. By building a list you have an unlimited number of attempts to get the potential customer to buy.

I think news letters are dead, just sell the book and build a list of people who want it.
