Elance is the best because the quality of freelancer is very good.

Elance has a better user interface. Personally, I find Freelancer's interface to be very time consuming. I'm liking Envato's Market Studio - depending on what tasks you are looking to have done.

I like to use freelancer.com because it enables you to get quick proposals within minutes.

Elance normally takes a longer time for proposals to come in but I would say, the proposals from the Freelancers there are much more detailed, allowing you to screen through cheap freelancers that produces low quality work.

Odesk is much more client friendly it means they will be your safe gourd if something bad happens. Also it seems creating a job is easy there.

On the other hand freelancer is the biggest market place that means you can choose a right person for your job but you have to invest some time as it seems to me not easy to understand.

Elance is way better in quality of candidates in my opinion. Plus they don't bombard you with crazy fees like Freelancer does. Every transaction or deposit has a fee on Freelancer. Lame..

I've always used Elance, however, you know that Elance and Odesk merged, don't you? They are run by the same company now. Odesk typically has labor that really lowballs projects, much more so than Elance. That does not inspire confidence in their abilities to me.

And probably Freelancer.com will buy both and will be under ONE roof.

I seriously doubt that Elance will sell to Freelancer. I think it's more likely that Freelancer would sell to someone like the Japanese company that offered them $400 Million for it. That offer was reportedly turned down, but it doesn't mean there won't be better offers.

I just to use e lance a lot years ago. Mostly, I use freelancer now. However, I have found that I can get a quality logo on FIVERR for $5 that would cost me $200 on freelancer, so they are not getting as much business due to high prices. Also, FIVERR is not constantly hitting me with an up sell and that can get annoying.

I've spent over $150,000 on Elance and there are some great people there. It's not where I'd go for programmers though.

What exactly are you looking to have done?

It's a PHP project creating databases and organizing data for an existing project. Where do you suggest I get programmers if not from there?

I see, there are many people suggest many sites. someone suggest Odesk, someone elance, someone guru. but I would like to make difference idea. You can use any site, which is more easy to you, but when you wanted to hire any freelancer, you should see their previous work. then you should decide which freelancer work is the best.

It looks like I'm going to pick Elance since it seems the majority of the people on here like them better. I haven't heard back from Freelancer in over a day after they froze my account and never got a clear answer on my account from them before!

Currently, Freelancer is the best comparing to all other market places. They have both good employers and good employees, also their system is very much user friendly.

Yeah but they take days to answer support emails that sucks when you have a deadline for a project

You'll need to look on Craigslist to find the real rockstars.

If you just need simple customizations/programs, then oDesk will do the trick.

Just make sure to really vet your developers before hiring them. A lot of them talk a big game but then can't deliver the goodies.

If you are looking for programmers you can try Guru since they seem to have quite a lot of them. Elance and Freelancer are also good.

Elance is much easier to use and the quality is usually always good if you have specific job criteria laid out in advance. That is the big MUST when using these sites, know what you want because any can cost you more.

Oh! I didn't know that until I read this thread.
Thanks for the heads up. I will take action with my account on Elance.

As for my take, I would say that Freelancer is way better than Odesk these days. However, Odesk may seem to have more cheaper programmers than Freelancer but I doubt the quality of work they can provide.

Other sites that you can look into are Staff.com (they focused in full time hires / good for long term partnerships) and Guru.
