Is content still royalty?

It seems that there are such a wide variety of online marketing techniques that improve SEO.

I'd like to know, from your experiences, if content is still 'King"? How much more of a role of a factor in ranking does content play compared to other strategies.

I have a website and blog, so my question applies to both.

Thanks so much for your input.

I don't think that having good content makes all the difference. Yes, it is a good idea to have it but when it comes to improving SEO, it all boils down to the keywords that you have on your blog or site and from my own experience, I really do believe that having more and more sites linking back to yours will help you in the SEO war.

    Hope this helps,

Content is an extremely valuable component for SEO, but link building is just as equally important. I've heard many experts argue which one works better, and after weighing the arguments (and testing), I will tell you that you can not accomplish your SEO goals without doing both. It is hard to say an exact role unique content will play, as the search engines alogorithims are constantly evolving.

    Good Luck!

If you intend on generating quality free traffic then content is essential.

There are soooo many ways to repurpose the same content.

    Hope This Helps!!

You still need to be able to call attention to yourself. Great, provocative content is the best way to do that. Just great content won't do the trick, unless you're hoping for people to find you over time.

I've noticed that one of my competitors has very little (actually, almost none!) content. What he does have though, is excellent real estate (i.e. a one word generic domain name), and superb 'purchased' inbound links.

So, the advice so far on this thread pretty much coincides with what I've noticed.

    Thanks again.

Content and keywords are both important. I believe capitalizing on both will be more beneficial than concentrating on just one strategy.

Yes content is imperative - and I think that maybe you should WANT to put up GOOD content rather than anything for keywords as has been implied. After all - it doesn't do a tinker's damn for you if your traffic just clicks off after getting there now does it? Give them something that makes them want to come back for more and gives you a good rep in your niche.

While it is true other methods are important - content, I believe firmly, is the only one which remains steady while all the rest of the rules change periodically.

If the graphics are flashy and the content
if few and far between...I leave the site.

I think people are still looking for plain old
information and if you give it to them...they'll
    come back...I know I do...

I very much agree with Sal and Emma. if you have a lot of fluff and no substance, "Click!"

That's ytour visitor saying goodbye. You have to give them something to stick around for.

As far as the web is made up of content and that's what people search for and expect to find in search engines...Then content is and always will be king
