Offline Bussiness Ideas To Make $500 In 3 Days?

Hi,

I need to make $500 by the first. Im thinking the best way to do this would be to take the offline route correct? I live in LA right no so there are plenty of businesses around! Should I just approach businesses in person and offer to create a website for them? Or should I simply call up the businesses first and offer to create a website?

I know I can make $500 easily within the next 3 days doing this. But what is the best route to take? Thanks

Thanks Ron. That's true but the problem is at this point I need to make cash into my hands since I need to pay my rent by the 1st. It takes too long to get out of paypal and it would be impossible at this point. So I need to do something with offline businesses. I can do website design and all of that.

Personally, I can not design websites yet but offline is probably the quickest way to generate some cash. I've been reading and learning so much here on the WF that I now consider myself ready to get going.

So many ideas, so many ways and finally I've made my choice. What I am going to do, starting TOMORROW, is to talk to businesses about google business center and google maps. If they already are on the map, do they have a coupon/video/pictures/reviews etc.? If not, I'm going to try to sell it to them.

Yes, its a little scary but its time for success and even if I have to go to 100 businesses before I make my first sale, I WILL.

Another thing I have taught myself is Microsoft Photo Story 3. With that FREE program, you can download it and it is very easy to learn. Take your digital camera, take some photos of the business, create your video slide show, add free music (comes with the software and you mix your own).

If you want to upload your video slide show to Youtube (where you can create your own account for FREE), you need a special code that is NOT included in the software.

To get the code, go to papajohn.org and search for it and that too is FREE.

I researched (and still am) google maps and found some really good stuff at what you can sell to businesses. If you type in "google maps" in your search box, then click on the link and once there, type in "restaurants, Sherman Oaks", the top one is a restaurants called "Spazio" and if you click on the link that says "more info" you will see that they have 4 Youtube videos and 6 pictures.

Click on everything else too, that owner ROCKS when it comes to marketing!!!

Try clicking on other restaurants as well to see that a lot of them are missing the boat. Try other types of businesses too. This is what I think is a GOLDMINE! Someone who is already on google maps but have not maximized their exposure is an excellent candidate for you.

BTW, I'm in the L.A. area too but I do not mind sharing ! Hope this helps and all the best to all of us! Take care, Eva

I don't have the answer to your question, but I do want to correct you on getting money out of paypal QUICKLY.

My method used my paypal debit card. When I need money quickly out of my paypal account, I buy a low priced item at walmart (even a candy bar) and get $100 cash back. Buy two candy bars SEPARATELY and get $100 for each transaction. Someone in this forum wrote that they got $800 back at walmart. They did 8 separated transactions one after the other.

I like Vons, they give $200 cash back. Albertsons limit is $100.

The WONDERFUL thing is that there is NO ATM CHARGE when you do a cashback at a store. No charge whatsoever.

ON EDIT: You use the card as a debit card, not a credit card when getting cash back.

    Ok, you have 3 days!

If you can do Local SEO or can work with someone that can, get on the phone and call up businesses. You could make much more than $500 from only 1 client and you can easily find 1 client within the next 3 days that needs SEO if you work hard!

    Post on CL
    Pick the phone up
Ask your friends and relatives if they know of anyone in need of help online!

There are many services that you could take to offline business owners to make $500 but following the route of offering SEO or even web design you will get that and more with 1 client rather than many sales!

If you want it enough, you will get it!

    Good Luck

Thanks Gogetta. I know SEO and from experience it seems easy to rank businesses for targeted terms. I can build the client a website and do some SEO for them. But is it standard to have the client pay before the work is done?

I ould have the work done within 3 days if I found someone, heck I could have it done even quicker than that. Of course if we get into building backlinks that could take some time etc. So im not quite sure what the best approach would be since I need the cash so quickly.

i think it's reasonable for the client to pay 50% up front. so offer a service package worth at least $1000 and get your 50% up front.

also check out ron's suggestion. jay put together a free and simple but highly effective template for anyone to follow.

Corey, I have been considering this myself. How I am going to do this is simple. I pickup the local advertiser and look at any ad that just sucks. Call or go visit them and say you know how to build a list of targeted customers without costing them a cent that they are not spending now (except say $199 to pay you to do it). Build a small blog site for them with a couple articles relating to their business. Tell them to include a link and teaser to this site in their next offline ad. Build the optin section so their customers can get their article.

I think with this method, I can sign up local businesses all day long.

I only have a few minutes before I have to go to W.O.R.K. but wanted to say this. I will do my research at work (doing an open house) and bring my laptop. I have decided on the automotive section. Will copy and paste, as well as some manual typing into Excel, everything I find on google maps in reference to my niche. Once I have 100 businesses and their stats, I'm done for the day.

Knowing that the automotive niche is really busy in the morning, I will start my cold-calling at 10am and keep at it until I've done all 100 businesses. Before 10 am, I will do some more research for 3-4 hours to be ahead of the game.

With any luck :p, I will make a sale (or 2, or 3, lol). Best of luck to you too. PM me after you spent your first day prospecting (if you wish). Maybe with your web design abilities and my OTHER knowledge, maybe we can benefit each other (just a thought).

Ok, how do you know if you don't get started?

Let's not assume anything. Let's just get going. You, my friend are running out of time.

Start putting this in place while getting other ideas.

Do you have the skills to pull it off? Tweak the blueprint and tell them within in 3 days they'll rank or whatever. Just make it work!

How bad do you need $500?

I am not in your shoes RIGHT NOW, but I work a crappy ass job and come hell or high water, I WILL NOT be there in 6 months, it's that damn simple. You have to have a no excuses attitude.

I know what you are saying Ron. I was just thinking maybe I should just find business owners who do not have a website and pitch them a website perhaps for $200 a pop. Tell them they are losing a lot of business by not being on the first page of Google for such and such term etc. I just did not want to spend 2 days ranking for a term and then have the business owner bail out.

I suppose I could put my own twist on it and get an advance payment etc. Im sure I can find someone who will trust me with the work after I pitch them the idea of at least give me 50% up front.

If it were me, I'd stick with the blueprint until I got the $500, than do all the experimenting you want. Stick to the tried and true, first, than get "fancy" when you can afford it.

It's all laid out for you. Just apply and apply again untill you get the bills paid.

      Don't make it complicated.

      Keep me posted

You could try putting an ad on cl saying that you will clean houses or cut grass for a good price. This works really well, or you can get somebody who has a truck and put a similar ad on cl offering to collect old metal items that people are going to throw away so you can sell them for scrap metal. People will be more them glad to let you collect it just to save them the trouble of moving it. Last time I checked here where I lived scrap metal was going for about 150.00 a ton. A few refrigerators and old stoves/washing machines can get you five hundred dollars. Also try putting up some flyers in public places like libraries or grocery stores offering the service. You will make money I promise.

Oh I almost forgot, you probably don't have enough time for this, but you could also advertise on cl that you want a laptop that meets basic requirements like cdrw/dvd combo windows xp installed, anti virus and at least 20gb harddrive with internal wifi modem. Say you only have 125.00 to spend, and you should get at least a half dozen responses. The only problem will be picking them all up as the people may live out far sometimes. What you want to do then is put them on ebay and sell for a profit. A laptop with the spec I just stated is virtually gauranteed to sell and they usually go for at least 200.00 as long as they are in decent condition. This is 50.00 -65.00 bucks per sale after ebay fees of course. You will have the money in your paypal account. Make sure you get a paypal debit card if you do this though that way you will have immediate access to your money. I tried this years ago when I needed seed money and I made almost 1000.00 dollars. Hopes this works for you.

You can charge up front regarding SEO. All of my fees are paid upfront before any work is undertaken. Most biz owners won't bat an eyelid at this and the ones that do I in some very raare cases do 50% upfront and 50% on completion!

Do you have any friends or friends of friends that have a business that you develop a site for? What about friends that need a personal/professional blog. 5 X $97 gets you your $500 (almost). Wannabe models/actors/musicians need sites. You could add a social media presence (facebook biz page, twitter etc) for an additional fee.

      Corey,

Some rental agreements have a three to five day grace period. Check your rental agreement to see if yours has one.

Also, talk to your landlord. Ask if there is something you can do for him/her as a trade. This may not work if you live in a large complex.

      Good luck!

        Hey there,

There is a ton of great ideas in here...
Start with you landlord. Let him know the
situation first and ask for a 7 to 10 days
extension to pay your rent. Go for an
hour walk to clear your thoughts (I know
you need solutions) but many times a walk
can release a bit of tension and get you
refocused. See if you can barter with you
landlord. Maybe he needs a website and
some SEO to promote his business? You
could setup a local business listing as
recommended before in place of the rent
or half the rent. Maybe, your landlord
has a buddy that you could do some work
        for.

If not, write your goals down and work
backwards. Set action tasks for each day
and implement then. You're clearly a long
standing member of this forum. You have
everything need to reach your goals.
Take advantage of your many talents.

Your best chance of actually getting hired in that time frame is a combination of 3 things:

      # 1: Talk to the business owners you already know...in person.

Find out how they're doing business, what THEY want and need then suggest solutions based around that.

Run with the idea that gets them excited.

One of the problems with your current mindset is that you're thinking of what YOU need instead of thinking about what the business owners you're going to help want and need.

      # 2: Talk to the business owners your friends and family know.

Is there anyone you know who can recommend you as an internet marketing expert (or wonder person) to the business owners they know.

If you can get someone to do that your chance of getting hired will be much higher.

      # 3: Start walking into businesses in your area and talking to the owners.

Same principles as in # 1.

Find out how they're doing business, what THEY want and need then suggest solutions based around that.

Run with the idea that gets them excited.

If you do all these things for every waking hour in the next 3 days you'll probably get hired.

$500 is not a lot of money for a business owner to give you (even as a 50% fee in advance) so your chances are very good if you take serious action.

The biggest key is going to be you being low key and talking to these business owners, finding out what THEY want and running with ideas that get THEM excited.

Your problem (paying the rent) is not their problem. You need to focus on helping them...not worrying about your personal problems.

      Kindest regards,
      Andrew Cavanagh

thanks for the help guys. I have tried a lot of things today with little progress. I did a ton of cold calls and even pounded the streets with no success other than one owner being interested in doing something next week.

The reality is I now only have tommorrow to make the $500. There is no grace period according to my landlord, he claims he will be hit with a $400 fee if it's not paid on the first. I don't know if thats true or not but I would like to avoid finding out, lol.

So tommorrow is the day! I figure I could post some ads on craigslist and create websites for $97 each. If I could get 5 takers I could use the same template for each one perhaps. A website for under $100 is considered cheap if im not mistaken.

I just moved to LA a few months ago and do not know any business owners at all. So it's all going to be dealing with strangers tommorrow. I will get up at 6 am and post new ads on craigslist and hope I can get some leads. Im really out of ideas now, nobody seems to want to pay more than $2 for an article so that kinda throws that out of the window it seems.

Oh well, I will get it done! I have confidence that tommorrow will bring good results Thanks for the help all and im still open to ideas! If nothing else this is a really good brainstorming session on how to make money offline. I cannot wait to start applying some of the tips I learned here after I pay my rent. Espically the one about the google sitemaps, it will be nice to have time to do this all.

    Hi Corey,

Love the spirit and determination, you deserve to get it and will even if it takes until the last hour! Keep the FAITH!

As far as cold calling, when calling a business and offering an optin form you will find they will all say no as they have no clue of the BENEFITS! Same with a website!

Try calling up and telling them the benefits first, i.e:

"Hi Mr business owner, I have just come across an advertisement for your company in .............., So I am assuming your currently looking to take on more clients?"

    "YES"

"O, great, well to cut a long story short, I am a local internet marketer, I have been an internet marketer for ........ years and currently help businesses generate more clients and profit online.

Now I came across your website and straight away spotted several untapped areas of potential to generate more clients. Now what I am looking for is 30 minutes of your time at some point this week so I can pop in and show you a few different avenues to generate more business online! Is that possible?"

    "Yes or No!"

If you do this with 250 businesses you will snare many appointments. Turn up to your appointments smartly dressed, first impressions are gold dust! Print off a few documents outlining what you do. Sit down with him or her ask loads of questions and run through the document step by step.

Do this and you will generate clients, guaranteed! Maybe not every single one but you will find this is much easier than it seems.

I was once a guy that thought wouldn't be taken seriously by business owners. Now I got a prime city centre office with many clients and I am younger than every single client I have (not that it matters! ; ) ). Keep the faith, keep moving, and you get results. The minute you think its too hard or not possible, the minute you FAIL!

    Good Luck,

    GoGetta

    Hey Corey,

You say you can design websites. Maybe you can try this...

    1. Use Google Maps using Jay's methodology to --
    2. Determine one industry you can 'dominate' with keywords (doctors, lawyers, etc)
    3. Pre-design a nice looking custom website
    4. Use Google Maps to find out who needs a site
    5. Make a list of 20 - 30 businesses
    6. Combine your custom design with Google Maps/keywords
    7. Download GoGetta's 'sell over the phone' report and read it
    8. Get on the phone and make your offer

Start slowly and pay attention to how your presenting your
offer and how people are reacting. Adjust your script and
    approach accordingly.

That's about all I can think of for now.

    All the best.

    Corey,

Don't be afraid to add new strategies to the mix. If you try enough different things, you will see results. Consider adding a well-worded mailer to your marketing plan. I believe there were some good past posts on writing an effective mailer.

Also, posting an ad on Craigslist is good, but look at the "Computer" section under "Gigs". There, you have many business just screaming for website/Internet Marketing assistance.

Corey, one thing caught my eye...

You said 'the landlord' claimed he'd get fined $400 if the rent wasn't paid on the first. Were you really talking to the landlord, or an agent or property manager?

If you live in a multi-unit complex, you may want to look into a barter arrangement with the real landlord. Offer to do a site designed to attract tenants in exchange for a $500 credit on your rent. If that doesn't fly, you can back off and make the same offer for an extension on your rent.

Empty apartments are not only a lost income opportunity, they're a cash suck for the owner. They get to pay taxes, upkeep, etc. whether they collect rent or not. If you can help them avoid that situation on one apartment for just one month, they've made back their investment in you and then some...

thanks a lot guys for the help The suggestions here are pure gold and I know how im going to make my next months rent plus investment money for my normal IM activities!! The thing is I really do not have time I don't think to go to local businesses.

I think I need to stay online all day and post ads on craigslist and other sites because I feel it's my best chance of getting someone who will pay today. I could be wrong about that but it's my gut feeling. As far as an extension goes my landlord claims I must have the money tomorrow morning.....no exceptions. I know that may not seem right, and clearly I won't be kicked out but it will cost major conflict between me and my landlord who lives in the guesthouse right next to my room.

So I would like to avoid that at all cost. I think im going to really work craigslist today for everything I can. I think it may be my best bet.

What would be the best section to post SEO services and web design on craigslist? Would it be:

    services - computers

I posted a few in that yesterday without one call or email. I guess thats the best section though right?

Alright im going to go all out with this. I have to generate some cash so im going to give a really good deal on craigslist. Im going to offer a website with content pages, seo and some backlinks for only $99.

I think thats a fair rate, now if I just get 5 takers who are willing to pay upfront today im golden I will be an interesting day to see what happens!

Well I just had a call from a guy about my SEO services. I really did not know what to charge. I offered to give him 5 content pages that target high quality keywords that I could rank his site for plus 30 backlinks a day for 10 days.

I told him the price of $350 and he said he's really interested but he has to decide between me and another guy. But in all honesty are my services really worth $350? I on't want to rip the guy off, but this guy had no clue about anything to do with backlinks so maybe the price is fair to him since he knows nothing about it all.

What do you guys think I should charge for seo? Im confused on the prices plus how can I promise that a keyword will rank even?

I would say that is way to low but in your current situation maybe you don't have time to barter! But, it is all about value here. You need to get off the backlinking and talk about the benefits of the top page, really sell the fact you knwo what your doing!

Business owners will pay high fees if they feel there is value, the lower the fees the less value your services paint. So really sell the fact that you are an expert and let him know the real benefits.

I would also be tempted to say this was an introductory fee so that you can prove your services to him. You normally charge double that! Even that this fee is a special today and that is why you posted the CL ad in the first place.

This all builds value, if you think you are charging too much, this will come across in your voice and pitch!

    Good Luck

    GoGetta

P.S If you are posting ads why not pick the phone up while your ads are out there working? Kill 2 birds with one stone or like Chuck Norris kill 2 stones with 1 bird! : ) If you gotta hit that deadline do everything possible. Dont just rely on CL, do CL and bang the phone out and you will WIN!

Thanks guys Ok well here's the deal. It turns out I made $250 more than I thought this month through Clickbank. So I was not quite as low as I once thought after really deeply checking things out. Still im short $250 in rent and did not make it today.

However I did have some success today. I posted a lot of flyers here in Hollywood hoping to get actors/models interested in getting a website but have received little feedback as of now. I did however get a call from just two craigslist postings ( they won't let me post more without verifying a new number) from a guy who wants a website design tomorrow and im charging $97.

Now thats good, I really got into the thick of chasing the offline cash and think I can easily create a lot of websites within a months time so that I will have plenty of cash for next month's rent and more.

As far as my rent goes I am lucky enough to have a family member who might help me tommorrow. So I think I may be ok for now if she does indeed help me. I really tried hard today but it was just too hard to convince anymore to pay me upfront. Not only that but my internet connection here went out for 4 hours so I had to go to the library which sucked.

Anyways bottom line is I did not make the $500 I sought out to make. But it's really not too bad considering how much I have learned. Im so jammed packed with offline marketing ideas that it makes my head spin. Now after I pay this rent tomorrow I will get started right away with other offline marketing techniques. I want to do website design, seo and the google maps strategy.

All in all this has turned out to be a great thread full of so much useful advice. I don't want to say I failed with my goals in this thread, I hope I did not let anyone down hoping to see that I made $500. Sorry if so, but I will make a lot of money this upcoming month and will be glad to share it! So thanks so much guys, im pumped to get started for this next upcoming month!!

Keep it going Corey! I've just learned myself that besides Googles Business Center, yahoo and msn has similar services to offer. Signed myself up for msn and they too (same as Google) will let you add 10 images (either pictures or videos) for Free.

However, msn does not have phone verification, only by mail (they said 3-5 biz days).

Yahoo has online verification and don''t know how long that takes. If you want images, a biz description and a tagline, its $9.95 a month (sucks, doesn't it... lol).

Anyway, my suggestion to get the foot in the door, is to give them msn for FREE (without images). If they want the 10 images, charge them. If its just photos, charge maybe $10 a photo (since you have to take it, download it, edit it, resize it and then upload it....)

As far as Google goes, you can even add coupons (not sure how many but in my research I've seen 3).

To make yourself a hero (after you given them msn for free) and they agree to buy your google package) tell them you will ALSO throw in yahoo for FREE. That should do the trick.

Please let me know how it goes, will try it myself as well, best of luck, Eva

        Hi, Corey,

It seems to me that $97 for a website is way too low.
