You can qualify people with the right questions, see what else they have done (is it reputable?) as well as as for references etc

What is your product ?? & Who will invest for marketing ??

You cannot stop people from taking your ideas and concepts, re-wording them, and then writing there own e-book on it. Do not let that stop you. If you feel your product is good, go for it. If you want to make certain your product is not cannibalized by buyers who then request a refund, there is Product Padlock. Also, you do not have to give your product away to anyone free in return for them becoming an affiliate. My two sense.

It really does seem like a minefield. I am very new to IM. I can create many products, and have been doing so in my field for years so I have testimonials etc. it just hard to know what questions to ask to qualify the potential JV partner. Thanks David - I will see if I can find the sales rates, and basically do what you suggested.

It's a bit confusing to use, but possibly one of the biggest JV sites out there.

Contact the ad networks through their account managers and propose a 80/20 JV. To do this you need to be prepared to send ad tags to them.

I'm going to be honest with you. Top marketers with the contacts will require a fee to review your product and only then if they think it'll fit a fee upfront to start marketing it which takes time and effort. For the best IM JV brokers the fee is going to be 5 figures.
The other way is to do the leg work yourself in set everything up and then look for people already in your niche that may be willing to promote your product. I suggest starting with smaller business in your niche so that you can iron out any issues early and test your product on a small scale. Use the success of these to lever a jv with larger businesses in your niche.
Remember people buy/do business with people they know and trust.

Get a good dialog going with someone and make sure they have a good name in business.
Check them out or maybe you can sell it on Click bank or some other company that has a presence online.

I thought Richard and brutecky's response were particularly insightful and that has given me further ideas for my own product.

How to find JV Partners in your niche...

1. Tap into your existing network. Your subscribers, customers and site visitors (even if they are few) should be the first contacts you make in recruiting affiliates for your program.

2. Submit your program to affiliate directories. You’ll want to get your program listed in as many of the affiliate program directories as possible.

3. Use an affiliate program announcement service. If you have the budget to support it, an easy way to speed up the affiliate program submission process is to use an affiliate program announcement service to make the submissions on your behalf.

4. Post to an affiliate program announcement forum. There are affiliate program forums where you can “announce” your affiliate program for all visiting affiliates to see.

5. Search ezine article directories. You’ll find that ezine article writers can be great affiliates because usually they are marketers. That’s the primary reason why people write and distribute ezine articles.

6. Look in blog directories for active bloggers. Look for active bloggers who have blogs related to your product topic and approach them for potential affiliate partnership.

7. Attend conferences to make personal contact. You’ll find that some of your best affiliates come from personal introductions at these conferences.

8. Interact at affiliate marketing forums. There are dozens of affiliate marketing forums – many of them with a lot of traffic – where you can interact

9. Join available partner networks. One I can think of right off the top of my head is JVNotifyPro.com.

10. Buy advertisements in affiliate newsletters. Look for high quality affiliate newsletters (Ex. AssociatePrograms.com) and purchase classified ads (and/or solo mailings, if available) in these publications to advertise your affiliate program.

Hi Liz - some great answers here in response to your post. As far as protecting your product:

a) Register the domain
b) Trademark the name
c) Submit a design patent - it's a lot cheaper and easier than a utility patent
d) I usually set up a separate LLC with the name of the product

If you want partner then go out and build real partnerships.. dont worry about protecting your content as its not a crucial aspect of the business -- low value at best. Bring something to the table that is unique and fundamental to the partnership that others cant replicate.
