$1.99 Domains from GoDaddy

I don't care for Godaddy. I was doing some searching for domain names with their search feature and I found one I liked but went and looked at some options for about 10 minutes. When I came back it was gone already registered.

I did a little test and it happened about 4 more times. They are not an honest provider and will take it to you if pushed.

I recommend you go elsewhere no matter the cost.

Thats the game. Good point but - demand once identified soon has a counterpoint.
Particularly if it's profitable easy & automated. Think about this... Once you found out it was taken you wanted it even more as you were in the flow. Check the domain first do a google then uspto.gov if your into it - consider commercial intent.. THen go for it.

Do you know if this is a common practice in the domain registration industry? I've had the same thing happen to me a couple of times.

I found it weird because the domains I wanted to purchase were something obscure that I thought would definitely be available. Is there a way domain registration companies can see what domains people are searching for and snatch them up for themselves?

Crappy, schmappy. Save yourself the bucks by taking advantage of the sale and don't forget to push it to another registrar after 60 days.

A $2 domain is a $2 domain. If you need a quick domain for a current campaign that may not be useful longterm, why not? If you want to start a long lasting brand name, maybe you should review your options. Either way, it's hard to hate on a $2.19 after Icann domain.

Always clear your cache if this is how you shop for domains. I've had this happen to, only to re-check days later and it wasn't registered. Odds are it's your OWN browser making this happen...

Works with .com's

They had a deal similar to this a couple of months ago, I always take advantage of this.

If you are wanting to buy a domain, act fast because last time the coupon was used up fast/exired.

Yes you can get a .com.

This code expires after 7,500 redemptions or on July 7, 2009 (whichever comes first). So if you want a cheap domain buy now.

The coupon is good for a domain name in your order cart, including .com's. The redemption is ONE per CUSTOMER account, which is still a nice deal.

  Hi, Chris, you answered your own question here--the coupon code is for One name One Time for One Account.
  
  If you want 30 names, I guess you have to pay 2.19 for the first one, get a coupon code for the second one, and then pay full price or a discounted wholesaler price for the remaining 28 names.

You have to use a coupon code. I emailed my list (my godaddy sub list) about this with the coupon.

Also, DO NOT use a registrar TO SEARCH for domain ideas. They, (mostly GoDaddy) use what is called "Domain Tasting" where they see the searches people do, and if not registered, they register it and park it for 2 to 5 days. If it makes money, they keep it. If it doesn't, they "get a refund" or an "undo" from ICAAN.

It's a distasteful practice! (Re)Search/Brainstorm your domain ideas elsewhere, like PCnames.com. Then go and register it on your favorite registrar.

I absolutely despise GoDaddy because I believe they use horrible practice. If a domain expires they keep that domain themselves. They will sell it back to you at a crazy price. I understand its helpful if its a really really important site but usually you don't forget to renew sites that are that important to you.

If you mean they'd "sell" the domain name to you at $80 rather than renewal
price, that's because it's to "redeem" the domain name. Look up redemption
grace period in Google or so, and you'll also find other registrars do that since
it costs them more than their standard renewal fees.

But...believe whatever you want, even if it's not necessarily true and there's
a so-called reasonable explanation for it. And no, I'm not with Go Daddy.

You can get the 1st year of a .com domain from GoDaddy any time for $1.99 if you also get hosting from them. I believe you can also always get a coupon code for a couple bucks off the regular price if you watch one of their promotional videos from their site.

I've used them for several years with a couple dozen domains and haven't had any of the problems others have mentioned (names you searched for already being taken when you buy them, etc.), but maybe I just got lucky?

Yes, I just registered a $2 domain, which is going to make me millions in the next few months :-)

It is limited to one per customer. No PayPal. Only credit card or check. (Hint: How many credit cards do you have?)

There are always YES and NO for any kind of service. What I've been told is sometimes Godaddy can be really mean to you upon some premium domains.

I've never used Godaddy, I'm a big fan of Namecheap instead.

Didn't see your post earlier. That's a very sneaky practice that they have going.

The websites I was interested in buying were also magically parked at go daddy the next day.

i find .info does pretty much as well as .com seo-wise if you are working with external pop links like i do

I didn't buy anything else, just the domain. I got the discount. Thats why the coupon code is there I guess.

But I did see that offer of "non domain product purchase" and I thought it was a different offer.
